- Hello! In this video we're going to be looking at an AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus. It was advertised on eBay as faulty and having "No Power".
This turned out to be a bit of an unusual repair, and I spent quite a considerable amount of time and research on it, so I hope you enjoy :)

Your troubleshooting skills are way above the norm, programming as well. I was lost in the cloud as soon as you hit enter on the keyboard🤨 Persistence is one thing but your patience hits well above average, bravo. Thanks for a great video and repair. Enjoy!
Thanks mate 👍
Agreed
I think that’s the most ingenious and well executed repair I’ve ever seen.
Thanks 🙂👍Yes this one was a bit different from the standard repairs.
Your mad hacker skills put you at the top of your fixit and repair group
Thanks mate 👍
Yup , that was next level . Lost me about 45 seconds into the computer stuff . The faulty component swapping , no problem . When it comes to tech that deep , I just don’t have the skills . Im impressed 👍
Thanks J M 👍
Absolutely phenomenal! Your skills are incredible, to be able to diagnose one of the hardest faults and then persevere to find a solution to it you deserve a massive pat on the back. You also deserve A LOT MORE SUBSCRIBERS! Well done again mate
Thanks Matt 👍
The 80s just phoned and said they want their jumper back 😅😅
That was an xmas jumper 😂😂😂
Hackaday sent me and I wasn't disappointed! This was great work, what a rabbit hole.
Oh Nice. I'll have to check out the article! 👍
I love fixing things, but this skill is something only wizards can do, great stuff.
Thanks 👍
Man this is an epic software repair, admiring your determination on finding the source of the problem, thanks for the video, cant wait for the next one, keep it up. 👍
Thank you 😊👍
Probably speaking for a lot of your viewers... You went way past my paygrade on this one! AMAZING!
Thanks Dave 👍
Saw the RED in the thumbnail thought it was gonna be another Milwaukee 😅
Excellent video as usual
😂😂😂Thanks mate 👍
You stuck it out on this one😂 it's very rare these days that something beats you. Well done 👍
Thanks 👍
Great skills and persistence . Maybe you know already but "binwalk" is a program to extract parts from firmware or unknown files.
Thanks👍, yes I did look for a version of bin walk for windows as I didn't have a VM or linux setup to hand, so ended up using 7zip which seemed to do the trick 🙂
Wow! I wish I understood even 1/10th of what you just did. Amazing, truly amazing.
Thanks Vince👍, yes that one wasn't the "run of the mill" repair. Good job I know a bit about software too otherwise this one would have been a fail. I think I spent about 3 days fixing / researching, and then another 2 days editing lol.
@@BuyitFixit Hopefully your countless hours that you put in will save many of these from landfill over the coming years and save the owners from replacing them. Fingers crossed you get rewarded with views!
@Mymatevince Yes fingers crossed 🤞Thanks mate 👍
I think you and Richard from Learn Electronics Repair are just masters when it comes to think outside the box. Good job.
Thanks Cecil 👍
Richard is another class guy 😊👍 very knowledgeable
Impressive work! I thought you'd try the SD card firmware update after you got it to boot with the wrong firmware. But your solution was even more impressive. Well done.
Thanks 👍I did consider it, but with it having the 510 firmware on, I doubt it would accept the firmware for what it would think was a different device. The firmware seemed to have an identifier at the start of 513 for this model and 510 for the 510.
Just had to watch this un-Bricking one again. Well from 24 mins.
Love the tenacity and the fix.
I definitely think there is a need for UnBricking videos on here, but I’m guessing most bricked devices are in landfills.
Still might be a fun series to do.
Going to search in here for Bricked unbricked unbricking😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
A repair that is more like a software installation. Interesting to see how you get this thing running again.
Thanks 👍yes it was a bit of an unusual one 🙂
I haven't a clue what that little unit is, but man do I like that styling.
It's a capture card. You can plug a HDMI cable from your Xbox/playstation /etc. and view, stream and record the image
Your patient's for fixing awkward devices always surprises me keep up the good work 😁😁👍👍
Thanks Rab 👍
Patience not patient's
AMAZING... When i watch you, I feel like I should be filling sandbags instead of fixing laptops. I love it lol
Thanks Fred 👍
The other 3% wouldn't have started ? Again, Excellent.
😂😂Thanks 👍
I am absolutely amazed with your troubleshooting skills and how you fixed this broken device.
Thanks Marc 👍
Nice Unbricking. Well done.
So handy to have a similar model at hand to give you a fighting chance.
Thanks👍, yes absolutely 🙂
You Sir, are the fixer of eveything!
😂😂😂😂😂👍
46:10 device driver dialog would have been an elevated prompt that the capture software couldn't see.
That was a fantastic video mate... I've played with the JTAG stuff on routers and some cheap PTZ cameras and you can certainly get out of a lot of trouble with bad flashes!
Thanks Steve, yes I've played with JTAG too back in the day 😉 also removing chips and hex editing stuff, and reverse engineer software. Not sure if you saw the 'no password, no problem ' video I did or the ultrasound scanner or the recent generator control panel or tractor dashboard video which are along the same lines 🙂
Your troubleshooting, perseverance and fixit skills are incredible. Truly well done! many thanks for sharing.
Many thanks!👍
You lost me very near the start but was so intrigued I watched it all. Amazing how you did that. Still not sure what you did but very interesting to watch you work.
Thanks mate 👍
Hella good job, quite the investigation on this one. You should pat yourself on the back, have a drink, or whatever your routine is after a troublesome repair. Hats off to you.
Thanks 👍yes I needed a good 🍺🍺 after this one 😂😂😂
Outstanding knowledge and patience which has made a fantastic video and a huge sense of achievement for you. Well done that man👍👍
Thank you kindly!
Hacker man ! Your skill and logical thinking is amazing. Today, I learned a lot from you. Thank you
Thank you 👍
Made my weekend watching you buy it and fix it yet again. Dazzling and informative.
Thanks 👍
Great video, Mick. Thank you for showing the firmware stuff.
Cheers Mikey 👍
Absolutely fantastic fix. You went way into the depths on this. I appreciate that your persistence paid off!
Thanks 👍Much appreciated 🙂
I really enjoyed watching this repair and love your channel. Keep it up
Thank you very much!👍
I have to say that was one very impressive fix. You obviously have some good all round fault finding skills and a very good ability to read and follow guides online to get the results you need. Well done on this repair
Thanks Richard 👍I've done a few other ones that weren't so run of the mill too, such as the FLIR thermal camera repair, the solar inverter I repaired in one video and then needed the service password to change a setting which the manufacturer wouldn't give me! Or the RGB laser repair or the Moanacaster podcasting console I looked at too 🙂
You are far, far ahead of my level. Now if it were tubes, I stand a chance!
Thanks Tom 👍
Brilliant recovery and fix… learnt alot from this… really interesting keep up the gr8 videos
Thanks mate 👍
This is an impressive fix sir, I bow to you.👍
It is all about the puzzle, isn't it ???
Thanks👍 and yes 😂😂😂
Unbelievable job!!! I'm without words... really, very, very, congratulations for your skills and for each video. Thank you very much and have a good weekend!!! from Italy :) (your videos are an incredible inspiration for me).
Thank you very much. Really appreciate that. Hope you have a great weekend too 👍
You deserve the thumbs up mate, excellent fix.
Thanks 👍
I learned quite a few little tricks here, thanks. Great video! You got a new sub!
Thanks and welcome aboard 👍
Incredible, instant sub. I love that you also had the software knowledge to get a fix, I would have been stumped! Great stuff.
Thanks 👍if you liked this one then check out the RGB laser repair I did or the solar inverter where I had to reverse engineer the password algorithm after I fixed it. Or the medical ultrasound where I managed to unlock a ton of hidden features and made it run DOOM 😂😂
Fantastic you are a very clever and talented man your skill and knowledge of electrical boards is brilliant and entertaining.thank you Mick👍💯
Thanks George 👍
A great fix! Your early videos elude to your programming interests, so they came in extremely handy here 😊 it does look as if a firmware update went wrong or something corrupted the data and wiped everything. A great plus with your son having a similar model to get some of the info from too. A great job at getting the info from the files bit by bit, this must have took some hours to fully repair, I used to use PuTTY in the late 90's - 2000's, a great little tool for diagnosing networking errors. Most would have stopped when they found out that the firmware was toast. Loved the in - depth microscope and oscilloscope work, excellent 👏 It gives me more confidence to do more myself now, I have been repairing milwaukee / bosch tools and 2 x 110vac Trend T35 AL, M class dust extraction units in the last few weeks, so thank you for that. Looking forward to the next one 😊👍
Thanks 👍Glad you are feeling more confident with your repairs too🙂
@@BuyitFixit thanks Mick, it is appreciated 😊👍
Hi! I smile and shake my head. Envious of all that can figure out programing, or whatever it's called.
I'm intrigued watching all your fixes, some of which i know nothing about, but wish i understood. Well Done!
Thanks Karen O 👍
Your Kung Fu never ceases to amaze me, its like watching a virtuoso perform his magnum opus over and over again and words fail me. Riveting !.....cheers.
Thanks AndyMouse 👍
Very impressive work. Thanks!
Thanks Gustav👍
That was VERY impressive fix, thanks.
Thank you 👍Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Nowhere NEAR enough likes on thos video. Cracking job mate love that you were able to get the non plus veraion working and then chase down the diffs in firmware to make it work as required.
Truly bravo friend!
Thanks, Much appreciated👍
wow well done amazing work , handy having another model around to work off ,well done
Thanks 👍
WOW! Nice repair! You have skills for sure.
Thanks Oggy👍
That was a good one most of it go's over my head but enjoyed the fight 👍
Thanks 👍Yes it was a fight alright. I know you can't fix everything as some things are just beyond repair but I did persevere with this one and it eventually paid off 🙂
You've been off down the rabbit hole I see. It's good to have you back.
Thanks mate 👍
Hell of a fix! well done
Always worth keeping an old 32 bit Windows 7 machine on hand, have run into more than a few pieces of obscure software that need it.
Thanks 👍Yes, either that or possibly using a VM 🙂
WOW, another incredible fix, lost me with the programming will need to watch again. You deserve a lot more subs.
Thanks so much 👍
* Simply * outstanding.
You're at where I'm heading to.
Bravo.
Thanks 👍Much appreciated 🙂
great work around there, well done
Thanks 👍
I found this video because I have this exact problem. Going to try to upgrade the firmware and see what happens. Excellent work.
Thanks 👍please let me know how you get on.
@@BuyitFixit You are a fucking genius. I had to install Win XP on an old laptop because I couldn't get the USB pass through to work on a VM, but I installed the driver, .net Framework and did the flash like the video and it unbricked my device. Such a lifesaver!
Amazing. Really enjoyed this one.
Thanks Jon 👍
Wow amazing job. Ressurected a Comma eon (open pilot) one time like this. That was quite a challenge.
Thank you 👍
Great repair! Nice programming skills =)
Thanks 👍
I really enjoy your channel and how you come to the conclusion to what is wrong with the items you have on your bench. It surely is a lot of experience, pain and suffering to get to that level. Although I have a Bachelors in Computer Science, I would have never imagined it would have been a software problem and it would have been scrapped for it's precious metals... lol As always, Another great fix, or should I say, PROGRAM!
Thanks Ron 👍
Well done.. This one was just on another level.
Thanks 🙂👍
Its prety sad when you have to search the bowels of the internet for a 32bit only program from a different device and manufacturer to re flash a gadget because the gadgets manufacturers software doen't understand bootloader mode. Some mad hacker skills there - well done :)
😂😂😂Thanks, yes I was doubtful of repairing this one at first unless I bought another one to read the flash. The good news is that anyone else who has the same problem should be able to flash it quite easily now as I put a link to all of the files in the video description 👍
Mad respect for staying at that... as soon as i saw the firmware was corrupt it would have been binned.. Shame there wasnt an easier way to extract the firmware and flash it again. Reverse engineering at its best :)
Thanks 👍now I've worked out how to do it, it would only take someone a few minutes to install the driver, run the software and hit a few buttons. I'll get the files uploaded soon 🙂
Astounding and very interesting - thanks! The PC will only pick up the device when the right-hand switch is to the left or the right. The middle position is for recording direct to the SD card.
I'm on my second one of these - the first didn't give me any video signal via HDMI, so I returned it for replacement. Turns out that the HDMI lead was faulty, not the device! I should have done as you did and try a different one.
Thanks 👍yes for the PC to detect it normally the switch has to be to the left as you say. However putting it into bootloader mode (hold top button down while plugging into USB) it doesn't make any difference as this is before the switch state is even read 🙂
I'm kinda not surprised by a "self-destructing" IC these days, especially with something like this that could be considered usable so many times before things get wiped and a new one needing to be bought (gotta love e-waste). But as you also said that it could've been rendered faulty by the end-user either thinking that an update was done or was in too much of a rush and pulled the plug before the firmware update was finished. At least it can live again and be useful as a spare/backup.
" "self-destructing" IC these days, especially with something like this that could be considered usable so many times before things get wiped "
I have often wondered about that . A small countdown timer built into one of the chips and 4 moths outside of the warranty it "breaks "
Perfectly possible. See the recent Polish train saga 👍
Great work as usual
Thanks again!👍
This one was interesting! nice fix!
Thanks 👍Glad you enjoyed it 😊
that was a brilliant fix well done.
Thanks 👍
I'm amazed how you solved this.
Thanks 👍🙂
Amazing skills in fixing that. So not only can you repair circuit boards your able to diagnose a firmware problem, then source the correct firmware and program it.
Thanks👍 yes it was a fair amount of work though, but hopefully when I upload the files and put them in the video description it might help someone else with the same problem 😉
Well done mate love watching you do way better, what I do lol love the scope
Programming blue my mind
Don't normal comment but this was real commitment and intresting 🙂
Thanks
Thanks Jamie 👍
Unbricked the brick. Bravo maestro.
Thanks 👍yes unbricked brick 😂😂
Brilliant fix Mick, software fixes are the bane 😁
Thanks Mike 👍
Quick one for you if you're ever doing stuff like this, plugging in and out usb over and over. I made a little box with a male and female usb a and a 4 pole switch. Just handy little thing to have around and cost me a fiver to make. Save wear on the precious usb port.
Thanks for the tip👍..but perhaps I could do a video replacing a usb socket on my laptop 😊😂😂😂
@@BuyitFixit Why do you think I made the box.....it was right after I replaced my front usb sockets on the desktop.
Nice one 👍
Blimey, learnt so much on this one.
Will you be doing future unvbricking the bricked videos?!
Thanks Mark 👍
Far better than I could ever hope to achieve.
Thanks James 👍
Beyond me , but quite interesting. Thanks for the look.
Thanks John 👍
Wow, you're smarter than you look, we love the show, it is brilliant, thank you man,
You know what I look like? I guess you've signed up to my only fans page 😂😂😂😂. No seriously, many thanks for your kind comment and support 👍
Wow, you are one persistent Dude! :)
Yes, I don't like to give up on things 😂😂😂
@@BuyitFixit I got motivated by you so many times! THANK YOU!
Fair play to ya. You did a great job well done impressive.... 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Simply awesome!
Cheers Bob 👍
Great fix as always! Its remind me some fault that i had with my phantom drone battery and i had to probe some chip on the battery board and hack the chip with raspberry pi. it was so annoying fail everytime! But it works once and thats all i needed 🎉
Thanks 👍and well done fixing your battery 🙂
Fascinating and.unusual. I’m interested to know what path you followed which gave you the knowledge to fix this sort of device. I can see the basic logic of your approach - power supplies, fuses , components but at a loss understanding architecture and firmware. Well done ! A credit to your knowledge and persistence :-)
Thanks 👍I've always been interested in electronics, computers and programming since I was a kid. I remember messing with assembly code back when I had a ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. I've also played around a fair but with things like PIC chips and arduinos.
Amazing video. Binwalk might have made exploring the firmware a touch easier.
Thanks 👍yes I was going to use binwalk as I've used it before but I didn't have a linux machine to hand. I did look at using the windows version but found 7zip extracted what I needed 🙂
Very Impressive well done 👏
Thanks 👍
Great job on the programing Another one fixed , I don't even know what that one is , I thought it was a type of Gameboy for playing games for a teenager ...... Take Care Mon Ami...
Thanks 👍it's a video capture card for recording gameplay to a the sd card or streaming it via USB via a PC to TH-cam etc.
Well done great job sir
Thanks Catdog 👍
waw. you are getting a little to good! Meister fix :)
I've done stuff like this previously with the RGB laser or the Medical ultrasound where I unlocked a ton of hidden features 😉
Now this is proper hacking with a good deal of perseverance. 👍
Thanks 😊Yes, I struggled a bit with this one but hopefully someone with a bricked unit can now repair it too 👍
You are a true Master 💪
Thanks 🙂👍
You are a really clever bloke, but totally Jammy too. To be honest, Patients and perseverance are your two Super Powers. Congratulations, you certainly earned this one. As a matter of interest, How long did this one actually take you?
Thanks 👍probably around 3 days. 1 day was the electronics testing, then ordered an adapter which took a couple weeks to arrive. Then a couple of days taking the chip off, putting it back on and searching the internet and messing about with software. Oh and then about 2 full days of editing it all as there was captures from 2 different pcs, and a couple of different cameras and the microscope.
Wow..that is some cleaver work.
Thanks 👍
Wow. Amaizing 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks 👍
Truley an amazing fix.
Thanks 👍
Now that was a great fix
Thanks 🙂👍
I admire your programing skills
Thanks Gregorio 👍
Nice fix.
Thanks 👍
That sir was an Amazing find & an even more Amazing fix, nice job & great video.
Thanks Alfredo 👍
