This Super Mario Bros. 3 rom hack allows 2 player co-op with a twist. The second player gets to be a nearly invincible cheep cheep. Don't get too far away from your new friend as doing so forces you to exit the level. Though the cheep cheep is immune to enemies, falling in pits will still take him out. Good luck!

We had a blast with this weird game! What other enemies would make a good sidekick for Mario and Luigi? I'd love to see a wiggler follow them around.

Haha the creator here! Really cool that you decided to try it out! I've realized now that I probably jumped the gun a bit by sending this to you guys so early in its development :) I've added the cheep cheep to more levels now, and fixed some bugs (the weird thing with the swimming in level 5 was a bug where luigi controlled the A-button on both the cheep cheep and luigi himself :)) The reason why the cheep cheep isn't featured in some levels is because of level elements that are (were) not supported, in level 4 the cheep cheep would just fall through the platforms, but that is fixed now! I have made it so that the main player gets hurt if the cheep cheep collides with an enemy now, which might make it a bit more fun :) The full inventory was a debug thing that should not have been in the version I sent to you, but oh well! I'll create a new IPS file on the github page soon! Cheers!

Have you notice that the cheep cheep is almost similar to nabbit from new super Luigi u and new super Mario bros u deluxe,because he goes through enemy's and when you pick up items they are practically useless,also in Luigi u when you walk off the screen 2 player mode you will die as well!, so pretty much the cheep cheep is nabbit in super Mario bros 3 nice :)

Yeah, that screen transition freeze is how the Tanooki mechanic works. The behind background trick is the same; the moment the player triggers the transition to go into the background, the screen freezes. In fact, the Tanooki mechanic and the behind background mechanic are functionally *_identical._* Pretty cool.
Also, that Boom-Boom battle was a joke with that one single hammer KO... lolz

I you think about it, the cheep cheep would have to be able to go through pipes because in some levels, actually quite a few levels, you have to go through the pipes in order to win.

It would be great if the cheep-cheep could still interact with enemies and blocks, as well as being able to collect a mushroom and become one of those big cheep-cheeps, or maybe a fireflower and becoming a different color cheep-cheep.

This is a cool idea. If the cheep cheep also took damage, it would have made for an interesting idea, like you mentioned as an escort mission.
He’s updating the hack to work that way. Should make it a little better
I downloaded the ips patch and tried it, and it's a lot different now! I wish I had your version instead. The cheep cheep can be hit by monsters and damage the player now. Also there aren't a ton of fun power ups in the inventory. Still, fun video.
It looks like...Cheep Cheep may be useless in combat, but Player 2 (or 1) can screw Mario or Luigi over by killing themselves. It's also good for that player to learn the levels. That way, maybe they can do it better next time! (Also, Cheep Cheep gives out a free coin in the end. Sweet!)

This would be cooler. If player 2 could cycle enemies they play as (you would press Start)
That would be so fun.
Bonus points if turning into bowser plays boss music

I had been playing super Mario bros 3 on the nes for the switch and I was almost at world 8 and I saved my game came back the next day and tried to load the save but accidentally over righted the save data and lost it all. :(
