  • Welcome to the ZF Education Center
In this video, we will demonstrate how to identify the correct replacement lift support for:
    • Truck Caps
    • Camper
    • Marine
    • Toolbox
    • And other universal applications
    This demonstration is NOT for:
    • Typical hood
    • Hatch
    • Trunk
    • Tailgate
    • Or window replacement.
Step One: Measure the Extended Length
    • Measure your old lift support from the center of each connection point, NOT from the absolute ends.
Step Two: Measure the Rod Length
    • Measure the rod length from the center of the rod end connection point to where the rod meets the tube.
Step Three: Calculate the Compressed Length
    • Compressed length is determined by subtracting rod length (from step 2) from the extended length (from step 1).
Step Four: Identify the Connection Type on Each End
    • Ball sockets or eyelets on either the rod end or tube end.
Step Five: Identify the Force in Pounds
    • To find the force in pounds, look on the tube end for the rated force. This may be shown as a 4 digit number, with an "N" for Newtons or a "#" sign for pounds. If the number is in Newtons, divide the figure by 4.45 to convert to pounds.
Step Six: Visit your local automotive parts store.
Your automotive part store will have a Stabilus Catalog, with a Universal page, listing the replacement part numbers by extended length, compressed length, end fittings and force in pounds.
Securely install your new Stabilus replacement Lift Support, one side at a time, using any of the old mounting hardware only as needed.
With your new lift support installed, give it a test. It should open and close with little effort.
Finally, while this video covers many of the essential steps in determining how to identify a replacement lift support; it is essential that you read the instructions that are included with your Stabilus replacement Lift Support.
Your new Stabilus Lift Support is designed to take the wear and tear of everyday use.

Hi, I have a Proform Cross Trainer manufactured in 199x which has 2 of gas springs. They have the following information: Stabilus 755419 022/94 105136. The length is about 26.3". These are obsolete parts. Can you please help me to find the specification or equivalent replacement? Thank you very much.

How about the ability to read the Stabilus part # on the lift cylinder? Which one of the long list of numbers printed is the part #?

    • @ZFServicesNA
      @ZFServicesNA  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Michael Meier the Stabilus part number begins with "SG" (i.e. SG359005). Sometimes the "S" may be missing (i.e. G359005).

This is incorrect. I have one that has several #'s, but not one of the #'s start with s or g. As far as that goes, the only # on here that starts with a letter at all is d, and that is a # for all Stabulis lift-o-mat. Its the only # that even starts to do me any good, but I still can't find the exact one I am looking for.

Thank you very much for reaching out! Our technical service team suggests a SG 330096 would be a very close match. For more information call our Tech Service Hotline at 800-321-0784.

I have a camper shell on my truck that needs replacement struts. The only thing printed on both Stabilus struts are 0888IN 014ON 290/00 A 21. Which one of these numbers is the part number? I am having a hard time finding a replacement. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @ZFServicesNA
      @ZFServicesNA  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+ovationsensation We currently do not offer an exact replacement. However parts SG459030 and SG359008 are near the needed fit, with a 1/2" difference, and they might provide a solution. The product can be found at O'Reilly, Pep Boys and AutoZone.

Looks like Stabilus has poor engineers who do not know their ass from a pile of s***! PUT THE DAMN PART NUMBER ON THE STRUT!!!!! Why make it so difficult for folks? My strut has many numbers -- but none are the part number! Go figure!
