Thank you!!! Your a life saver. After spending months trying to fix this same issue and asking experts at Lowe’s/ Home Depot, you solved my problem. No one ever said anything about removing the little tab on the power side. 🙏👍
Thank you very much. You saved me a lot of stress. My husband changed out the outlet when we renovated that part of the kitchen and the new garbage disposal didn't want to shut off. He broke out the tab that you showed here and voila, it worked. I subscribed right away.
@@dicanelectric hello, after all the videos I searched for, you answered my headache lol Mine is currently done exactly how you installed it, but I want to convert it to a gfci… is there a gfci plug that’s already set up for 1 dishwasher (always hot) and 1 plug disposal (switch)? I can’t see, to figure out which outlet gfci to get
Thank you for your video. Had it not been for the information you present, I would not have my dishwasher running right now again. The part about breaking the little tabs I knew nothing about and I would have been unable to make the fix without that information!
I think that's what I did wrong too. I really don't use my dishwasher but decided to run it to make sure it worked. I previously replaced the outlet above the dishwasher and didn't know that piece between the 2 hots needed to be broken. Now one of my kitchen lights and the dishwasher will not work. Guess I'm going to give it a go tomorrow.
Thank you you just save my sanity. I did not know what was wrong. Why didn’t work that little piece needed to removed that was genius. Anyway thanks a lot.
Thanks Dican! The tab feature, for me, was a VERY teachable moment. And that was what I was looking for. :) I had the outlet in, so reversed your procedure by toggling the tab with outlet gently pulled out WITH power off, ofc. Thanks again!
Awesome video, thanks a million for the whole tab breaking thing seriously. I'm too big of a dude to be under sink anyway, you think sore that sold me the outlet would have told me about damn tab. Nope nothing, I was just about to call out electrician until I found your video. Thank you
Man, you need fucking 1000 likes! Thanks a lot! I tried everything, the part that shows how to brake the metal thing and separate the connector, that was it. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for this video. It helped me tremendously and helped me fix a problem I was having with my garbage disposal not working properly with the switch. You saved me a lot of money not having to hire an electrician.
Your Video is very helpful and it is very important to watch your video as I did the connecttion and it did not work, and I search your Video and I found out the know now. Thanks.
Thanks for this. I have watched 2 videos on how to do this produced by others and felt no more prepared to do it than before I began. But with this video I feel like I know what to do, both properly and safely. Thanks.
maybe im crazy, but my always hot is coming from the switch, when the switch is on. At the outlet there is NO power unless the switch is ON. Clearly its meant to be setup with an always HOT at the receptical, one for the washer the other for the dispose. I think the original installation was wrong, but is there any WORKAROUND i can do? Aside from fishing out wires and completely redoing the setup?
Thanks for the video! I've watched a lot of videos because I kept tripping my breaker every time I flipped the switch on and you're the only one that mentioned snapping off the tab on the new outlet. I didn't know about that and it fixed my issue.
Man no wonder why my dishwasher was turning on and off everytime im going to use my sink disposer because i forgot to take off the thing like what you did lol
The outlet under my sink where the garbage disposal and dishwasher washer are connect has one plug showing open hot. I’m guessing that’s wrong. The switch that powers the disposal on and off is under there as well a few feet away. When I connect the disposal on one of the plugs 🔌 it stays on all the time. I’m guessing that’s where the washer is suppose to be connected to. When I connect it to the other plug, it doesn’t power on at all when I flip the switch. This outlet is connected with a GFCI that keeps tripping on a separate wall. Any recommendations on what I can do to fix this? Obviously my electrical knowledge needs to grow. 😃
If I've done everything as instructed but the garbage disposal still doesn't work when plugged in, could it be possible that the circuit breaker fuse needs to be replaced? The disposal works if I plug it in to a completely different outlet so I know it's not the disposal itself
I replaced an outlet but didn't break the piece between the 2 hot wires. My outlet works and my disposal. However, the dishwasher and kitchen light don't. Could that be the issue, the small piece between the two hot wires that I didn't break off? Any help would be appreciated.
They delivered and installed my dishwasher yesterday. Due to depth space, (partly because of the electrical outlet on the back wall behind the dishwasher where it plugs in, the dishwasher is sticking out beyond the counter face about 3/4 to an inch more than it should be. Would it be ok installing a recessed outlet to make a little more room to slide it back a little further be acceptable? Thanks for these videos.
he didn't say specifically, but I'm assuming this outlet is daisy chained off the GFCI load side above the sink, thus making this one protected as well.
What do I do if I have two white wires and two black my problem is I've had this disposal for 3 years no problems suddenly I flip the switch and the button pops in the plug next to the switch shutting down the circuit
@@mindycrispi586 I ended up rewiring it differently it was the white wire that was messing me up so I switched the white wires around gave the plug the disposal wire and vice-versa it ended up working.
Hm? ... All was going well in your instructional video ... except at the end! You left out going to your breaker-panel and turning the breaker back on. So that you could show us, ... that one outlet stays hot all the time & the other outlet is controlled by the switch. At any rate, you did show us the versatility of a plastic blue adjustable electrical box. So, maybe, this was more important to you?
Your using the wrong socket(15amp) on a required 20 amp wire and breaker. Also using those holes with 14 gauge wire is just dumb! That little blade touching the wire will arc and fail later... Always... Use the screws! Àlso any outlet in a bathroom or kitchen sink MUST use GFCI outlet... The outlet box should use metal grounded .
DW only requires 15amp for standard units. Also, he didn't say specifcally, but I'm assuming this outlet is daisy chained off the GFCI load side above the sink, thus making this one protected as well.

That exact same thing happened to me, too!
You have the best explanation. No stupid music is a plus. Thank you.

I spent hours with the disposal and dishwasher both turning on with the switches. This fixed it! Thank you so much!
This is very good video and fix the contractor mistake
YES this is the video I've needed to find! Thanks for this!
Glad it was helpful!

Claramente explicado y un tono de voz agradable. Excelente video 👍

Neither my dishwasher nor disposal work after switching things around but every time I turn on the garbage disposal my garage door opens up.
Just what I was looking for.....Thanks.

Excellent, thank you for posting!
Do we need to use GFCI outlet for dishwasher power supply?
Apparently that became code in 2014. Either a GFCI outlet if you can get to it easily, or a GFCI circuit breaker.
Seems like you'd want GFCI for the disposal outlet because it's in the middle of plumbing.
Say did you place a GFCI in
Nice 👍

I was disappointed as you did not say if the neutral you connected to the outlet came from the switch wire?? And what did you do with other neutral?
great presentation
how did you get two hots in the box?
what's in the box wiring wise?
you're left handed! cool

Dish washer goes swich leg 120v and disposal goes 120v always hot line right? Because disposal is hard on main breaker if its on and off ?
Thank you very much!!!
Does the wire have to be 12-3 or can it be done with 12-2?
Thank you soo much for this video. I will subscribe and give you my like

Lori A $$ recessed outlets are very expensive. Use a 90 degree 3-prong adapter.
Outlet is supposed to be accessible (NEC 2017), should probly be in sink cabinet instead of in back of the dishwasher.
Thanks 😊
Why not use a gfci Under sink
Ya how do you hook up a gfci to do that? Since no bridge on gfci so what gfci model # is it? Lol
he didn't say specifically, but I'm assuming this outlet is daisy chained off the GFCI load side above the sink, thus making this one protected as well.
Great video and very informative. I like the "Safety First" segment.

Does anyone know what kind of box that is.he's using thats adjustable
A Brown - box isn’t adjustable.
Thank you so much
thank you
Thank you so much. I did not break the tab off ( as I had not seen your video ). What do you think happened ?
What happened? How did you solve the problem? Thanks
A multi wire branch circuit is no longer legal per NEC!
I broke tab and only 1 outlet works now 😮
Just a half hot receptacle

Do yo speak spanish?
Excellent instructions especially for a novice like me..thanks
Wire coming out of box MUST be 6” long or longer.
U didnt tell us how u got 2 hots and 1 neutral ?
Thank you so much. 💓
Thank you for clearing up how to wire the receptacle very clear and precise information
