  • Salutations! With the release of the mod tools for the Master Chief Collection version of Halo 2, the modding community for this game is now capable of doing so much more with the game than they’ve ever been in the past. One of these new abilities is proper tag injection into other levels, and as you can see from the title of this video, this means The Flood Juggernaut can finally inhabit other Campaign levels besides High Charity. Let's dive in to all this Halo 2 cut content!

      I'm so thankful for this 🙏 I was waiting for something like this since i touched halo 2. This makes it feel more like a H2C Deleted Scenes/Uncut type. Please consider restoring more halo 2 cut content would you be interested. I'm playing this in my replay for sure.

    I always assumed the Spec Ops Elites were referring to the Flood as a whole when slaughtering the Heretics. Interesting how it was supposed to be the actual Juggernaut.

      I thought the same. It made sense to me that they'd refer to 'the parasite' collectively as 'it'.

      Could also be that they just couldn't tell there were multiple since the floor was opaque - the player knows because like halfjaw they've "smelt it before" but the npcs wouldn't have that context.

    Seeing a Juggernaut blinking its eye which happens to be an oversized infection form has to be the most nope-worthy thing I've ever seen in halo.

    There's cut Tartarus dialogue on Quarantine Zone where he refers to the Arbiter finding a "playmate" that I believe is also supposed to play on the last Juggernaut encounter on that level too.

    Yet more proof on how grandiose Halo 2 was going to really be. Bungie really shot for the stars but even though they missed their target they still landed on the moon!

      Yeah, it's true. I would have loved to see their full vision realised. Halo 2 has a lot of cut content, including the E3 Metropolis mission. I understand Halo 2's development was under a lot of time pressure

    What if they had just kept that in the game? But you never see it again or fight it. Having it relegated to only that 1 sighting, that would’ve been so disturbing and creepy to see a big hulking flood form but you never run into it. Would’ve stuck in the back of so many players minds and they’d be waiting to run into it, a building tension with no release.

    It's quite interesting that the flood encounter early in Oracle (in that rectangular space with the windows) and the gondola ride with flood encounters both feel really slow or drawn out as if it was missing something or was intended for larger fights.

      It could've been scary if even fewer enemies were present to build up anticipation for the Juggernaut, kind of like how the Guilty Spark level's first half played out. Descending into the bowels of the facility while only facing a few sentinels and heretics

    Halo 2 would have been an even more terrifying experience in the Flood levels with the Juggernauts! A missed opportunity and unfortunate this was cut.

    I loved this. I always wanted to see if maybe someone could inject the Juggernauts back into H2 and you have completely blown me away. Thank you. Now all you need to do is re-add the cut Warthog Runs on Cairo Station and High Charity and H2 will be (as Jeff Steitzer would put it) PERFECT! 😂🤣😂

      It would be awesome if someone could also create the Covenant Ship and Forerunner Tank levels. Obviously they wouldn't be exactly what was planned from the game, but it would be cool to see something based on what we know about those levels.

      Eh, more interesting sure. Perfect? Nah. I love Halo 2 more than any other game, but I'm not about to pretend that adding yet another incomplete enemy into the game is going to fix all the glaring problems.

      Although we know they at least started on forerunner ship because the gondola reused some of it's geo, and the E3 demo showed masterchief doing the bomb cutscene but without the bomb.

    if the Flood Juggernaut would have been remastered in halo 2 they would have looked just like the Flood Juggernauts in Halo Fireteam Raven since the flood models in halo 2 were also put in fireteam raven. would be cool if someone did that

    Honestly it's a real shame we never got it in the game. Even with 343 adding cut content to MCC we still haven't gotten anything for campaign.
    Would have been nice to see the Juggernaut in Halo 2, the cut Flood Forms for 3 and the Guardian

    Man, this is cool. Halo 2 is my favourite campaign, but the arbiter levels always felt lacking compared to chief levels. This would have added so much more to the arby levels! And the chance to shoot humans from an elite perspective, wow!

    As someone who doesn't have a clue about modding i'd like to ask, would it be possible to "finish" the juggernaut? (Fix its hitboxes, give it an actual death animation etc).

      I still want to learn the mod tools, myself. It'd be a lot of work, but one of the first things I'd want to do is a flood overhaul, including a finished Juggernaut. I just need to learn the tools and the Halo engine.

      Athelios A.I. battles found an easy way by borrowing other death animations his Juggernauts specifically explode into standard combat forms like incubators but that more salad dressing then an actual fix

    The inclusion of the Juggernaut on quarantine zone really does make it feel like a 10,000 year war is being waged. The juggernauts climbing from the depths while the big daddy sentinel descends from that shaft to do battle while you're caught in the middle makes it feel epic in a way the vanilla level came up short of being.

    This video was incredible, through and through. It’s super cool seeing them reimplemented into the game. I had no idea there was so much to the Flood Juggernauts. I knew it’s model existed and it had attack animations, but I actually didn’t know about everything else! It’s so cool seeing them scale walls. It’s also especially interesting hearing all of the cut dialogue relating to the encounters.
    Hearing your methodology on how you reimplemented them into the levels based off of remaining clues in the existing code was also super interesting. Incredible work all around!

    Your knowledge of H2 Sapien and flood is impressive… have you considered turning the map Backwash into a Flood Firefight map? Could even add sentinel emitters to the center structure to add to the tension, feeling a lot like Halo CE.

    After I learned about the Juggernaut that one mission name always stood out to me. It's so cool knowing that that was supposed to be the original introduction location. The entrance's dark lighting and mist effects meld PERFECTLY with the Juggernaut's height too

    Halo 2 was my first Halo and The intro in the mission Juggernaut, looking through the glass floor, barely being able to see through the fog, hearing the flood scary screams and the slaughter of the Heretics, legit put fear in my heart and nightmares as a young kid. They were so damn aggressive, fast, jumped high and STRONG AF. The human combat forms were nightmarish to look at. The atmosphere and darkness of the levels you fought them in were perfect to add how creepy and horrific they were. The ambiance, the scary howls and screams in the background. If Halo 2 had the ability to add the Halo 3 infection form transformations on live hosts, oh God.

    I didn't realize the Juggernaut rabbit hole went so far. I just thought it was the case of the enemy got modeled and animated and just didn't make the final cut. I had no idea it was all pretty much implemented even with AI scripting and orders.

    This makes so much sense, that part at the Oracle mission where you fight and wait till the heretics open a door feels oddly empty, clearly this was meant to be the fisrt place you would have fought the first Juggernauth, then the part where you hold down position at the end of the Sacred Icon mission also feels like is missing something, even on legendary there is instances where every enemie dies and it goes quiet before more flood come out, it seems bungie was betting their money on the Juggernauth encounters but they didnt have the time to polish and make the Unit work, such a shame!

    Yo this is so cool.
    I would love to see an expanded Halo 2 restored via the modding community.
    The encounters seem very cool, and that opening scene with the glass floor is SO good. I always thought it was really strange how the elites talk about the Flood like they had no idea what it was when they clearly knew about the parasite. I also wondered why there was just a random unmanned scorpion tank in the back of that area on Quarantine Zone. Seemed weird. Man, if only they had gotten the juggernaut in a better state. It was probably cut because it wasn’t fun and it had issues with its AI. It seems a little janky and weak in its current state. I’m sure the melee attacks don’t feel great either. Could use some love. I think it would be very cool though. I hope you get a developer to reach out and explain some of the speculative spawns you placed.

    You know, I can see why Bungie cut them out. Having that many Juggernaut encounters, and how bullet spongy they were, they would've been very repetitive to fight. It would have turned Sacred Icon is Halo 2's version of The Library. Makes me wonder if that was Bungie's original intention and realized that was a bad idea and cut them out. Then cut them out entirely as it looks like they would not have been fun to fight. But from their ideas on how frequent they appear, they would recycle them into the Flood tank-forms for Halo 3. A more balanced version of the juggernaut, can be placed in many areas, and having them transform to ranged units gave them a nice way to take on flying units. Because from the footage from this video, it looks like the Juggernaut didn't have any proper way to take on flying units. Maybe jump high but I noticed they only do that for entrances and not for combat, might make it unfair to the player if they can just jump that high towards you.
    Maybe they might return in Halo Infinite in some future campaign expansion if the Flood ever returns, but more realized. Would fit since Infinite has boss fights, a flood juggernaut can serve as a proper Flood boss encounter. Make them interesting to fight and fun to fight.

    It may be that in the remake, a flood juggernaut easter egg was planned, and so the asset only appears on the one map.

      I disagree. The Flood Juggernaut assets were always loaded on High Charity even during the Xbox days, and it seems like Saber saw those assets and thought they were in the game, until they realized it wasn’t.

    You have to wonder how a juggernaut Flood form is created. It's very different from the combat forms and looks more like a pure form, but pure forms don't appear until after the Flood has terraformed an area.

      Well, actually all you really need is a Gravemind (which can be remarkably small) or an advanced enough proto-Gravemind. You just need an intelligent enough hivemind to know how to make pure forms. The flood is fucking scary.

      My understanding is that a juggernaut is a specialized proto-gravemind. Afaik, the original intent was that when you kill the juggernaut, every other flood form in the area drops dead, because the juggernaut was controlling them. So presumably, they're formed in a similar way as other proto-graveminds, whatever that is.

In other words, we know that feral flood can form a proto-gravemind, which is already somewhat like a pure form, so it stands to reason that they'd be able to form a juggernaut (maybe only when guided by an existing proto gravemind) also, given the similarities.

    Probably the most in depth analysis of the Juggernaut NPC I've seen, almost didn't want the video because of how overused this cut content was. But glad I watched, could you imagine the Mini boss fight in that room on Legendary? Was hard enough with just the waves of ordinary flood units. But was nice to see Bungie trying new things, even though they were cut in the end.

    The flood juggernaught was actually meant to be a boss fight if you look at the tag names referring to it as ‘boss’, not a reoccurring enemy. Or maybe a boss version?
    They also have animations to board pelicans

    The comment about the eye and going off of some of the old storyboards makes me wonder if the Juggernaut is what took the place of the Drinol/Sharqoi that was cut from Halo CE and was considered for Halo 2 too.

    I was having fun making mods for halo 2 for fun and on the map that the juggernaut was found I came across a secret unused area, when you take the elevator up to the prophet quarters before you enter the big door, faze outside the big hall on the right side and up a little and there seems to be some boss fight platform looking area without textures only see able on anniversary graphic's just encase your interested to bring some light to that.

    I have a strong suspicion that juggernaughts were planned to have an attack that either flipped vehicles or outright destroyed them similar to the enforcer, especially with that encounter where one was supposed to massacre a scorpion.
