    At 12:40 I would like to correct the statement. If you have a USDOT number, meaning commercial, you must separately chain down the boom, it is called failure to restrain cargo properly and you will get an OOS on your record. I hauled equipment like this for 10 plus years.

    I'm not a DOT guru or anything, but I'm pretty sure like Reuben said, you can use one chain on the front and one on the back, but you still need 4 binders. If the one binder say on the back comes loose, then you will only have one tie down left that's on the front.

    • @harriettedaisy2233
      @harriettedaisy2233 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as the chain between the 2 tie down points is slack, yes you can. Effectively you are using each end as a separate chain.

      If the vehicle/machinery is over 10,000lbs, it has to be tied down on each corner. Under 10,000lbs, it can be setup the way it is in this video.

    FYI. The handle on the binder is supposed to contact the deck of the trailer when being used in order to keep the threads from backing out when you hit bumps. The reason for the offset handle is because with a center handle you sometimes can’t make contact with the deck depending on the angle of the chain. That’s less likely with the handle placed closer to the deck. Folding feature is for storage.

    I put on their Executive Fifth to Gooseneck hitch on my Momentum toy hauler. I felt a nice difference in smoothing our the ride. I chose it over the Reese Gooseball because I didn’t want to mess with the airbag. It’s certainly not necessary but it is nice.

      I also like that it takes up less room in front of the ball

    Just an heads up. If this skid steer weighted 3k more. The chaining would be incorrect. Anything 10k or more has to have 4 points of contact. IE , a chain & binder on each corner but since it’s 7k. Your fine. Didn’t know if you knew or not

    Chains are only as strong as the weakest link often it’s the item it is secured to. Bungee cords are always on my loose/excess chain. Love the ratchet binders even if they take a minute longer to use.
    Overbuilding a trailer is safer when loading to when you have a trailer that tilts for loading. I’ve seen some tilt trailers fold from being loaded with a load that was either more than it was rated for or improperly loaded.

    Good episode you can definitely see the hitch working and doing what it was designed to do which should add value to comfortably towing and making it less of a white knuckle ride. I watched the latest episode of “Keep Your Daydream Alive” and there was a Hot Shot Driver with a Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch setup that looked quite interesting, maybe you can do a review on a sliding hitch including advantages, usage and safety.

    I see a lot of comments about needing to put more weight to the front so there is more movement in the hitch. that is not the case, you had it set up right you should get small movement just to take the jarring out of the ride. If you get to much movement you start getting rebound and the trailer feels out of control.

    I have watched most of your hitch reviews. I would like you to compare the Anderson hitch to the Pull- rite ball hitch. It appears to be the same only the ball and socket are reversed. Just wonder if one has more advantages over the other.

    • @BTBRVReviews
      @BTBRVReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've honestly struggled to see the advantage of using this setup over a traditional 5th wheel pinbox. My assumption is the slight decrease in movement when connected, but I personally am leery about adding adapters to pinboxes if it can be avoided

  • @caudillenterprisesllc167
    @caudillenterprisesllc167 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s not a legal 4 point chain down. That rear chain is only considered a single point. If that chain breaks, you lose the entire rear securement. Chain should terminate on the load and have separate binders on each corner to get the full capacity chain and binder rating. May be different in Texas, correct me if I’m wrong , but ANY attachment should be strapped or chained,forks included.

    It didn't appear that there was enough weight forward to let the hitch really work like it should

  • @terrybader5723

    Should’ve backed the skidder on to the trailer, put more weight on the pin. Probably would’ve seen some flexing then.

    What’s the reasoning for switching to pin vs auto coupler? We put a gen y hitch on my co workers 5th wheel with the auto coupler

    • @BTBRVReviews
      @BTBRVReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apparently the auto-coupler was getting some complaints because it sometimes was difficult to uncouple due to how close it was to the torsion assembly.

    Why de-rate your trailer

  • @HotShotMike
    @HotShotMike ปีที่แล้ว

    Why wouldn’t you de-rate the trailer to 14,500 if you’re only using a single rear wheel then you can clear 10 to 11 K on the deck 7000 pounds is nothing

  • @genecoppedge5972
    @genecoppedge5972 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not worth the money if you’re hauling less than 20,000 Lbs, my own personal opinion. I think the airbag system (Shocker) would be a better Choice for lighter loads.

  • @brandoncaldwell95
    @brandoncaldwell95 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First off, it was properly chained but youre still illegal. You dont have a strap over the forks/loader arm. If you wanted to follow complete DOT rules, you missed one
    Secondly, this is the typical texan setup.
    1. Ford truck
    2. Gooseneck
    3. Kubota
    I hate stereotypes but damn that the closest I've ever seen and I've been living here 99% of my life.

  • @jameslowmanjr6141

    Always love your truck. Nice trailer site up. Like I said before on one of your videos. All drivers license has classes that’s D.O.T Standard. If your pulling over 10,001 lbs you need a class A. So even if your trailer is rated at 12,000 pounds without your class A license you still can’t pull it. If you go take your non-CDL license or just pick up a CDL manual and read it you would know for every 10,000 pounds you need one chain.
