I don't think they are in New York. If it was, the pizza place would not have to Specify New York pizza......That's seems like something that would be done in other cities to let you know they have New York style pizza. Plus all the gloomy rain. I ways thought it was Washington or Oregon.

Exactly right, maybe we're understanding it differently, but my conclusion is he got his hope back, because in the end, he was then able to agree with the second part of that quote.
*more details: where as earlier in the movie, he didn't agree with the quote at all. He sees violence happening in the streets and wants out completely. Examples being when he's sitting in the cab and says he wants to be anywhere but there, and when he's talking to Mills in the bar and says no one is worth saving
It always bugs me out how people buy into this notion that Harvey Dent was "Gotham's White Night" and was "Made To Fall" because the movie said it a couple of times. Harvey had already shown that he was willing to roll the dice and cut corners, even give in to his carnal instincts to get the job done. The theme of The Dark Knight was not to show that everybody is corrupt able, that was the theme of Batman Begins. The them of the second movie is that even organized crime is organized. And if you know how something works you can manipulate or destroy it.
Maybe Somerset didn't like the rain why he wanted to leave aye lol Much respect for being the reactor says I've seen this but my friend hasn't so you brought the homie I like this movie too. I only watch it once in a great while but i really enjoy the reaction I enjoy the channel
I googled it one time it said Detroit. Googled it again said the city is fictional. I suppose EVERY city has a "New York" pizza if you think about it...New York being the highest standard for pizza in the US.
Oh for sure, for a time when I was still in the military and stationed in England, it seemed like it rained just about everyday. However, when you're a director who has complete control over when you will shoot, and you choose (or artificially create) extremely rainy days to film on, that is a deliberate decision. It's also a deliberate decision to eventually film a contrastingly sunny day after all that rain. Respectfully, I'd say what you find distracting is showing appreciation to the detail, and noting that deliberateness.

I recognized a few of the street signs. It's downtown Los Angeles.... "Vernon" is L.A.
Funny thing about the Earnest Hemmingway quote at the end about the world being a fine place and worth fighting for...Hemmingway committed suicide.

Fixated on the rain was distracting. It is possible for a place to have rain for a week.
