agreed. the 1000RR from 08-10 is hard to beat for the price and performance, regardless of what people say about the looks. First day, during break-in period .. I hit about 100 mph in 3rd gear , slowly rolling on the throttle and the front end comes up.. When a bike does that, it doesn't matter what bike it is :)
@Asa7 it's just the only thing that makes sense since most of the forks were moved yet the plates really didn't move because the majority of the plates weight was on the strip..and it looks to be a bit more shinny in the middle of the table but a bit dull on the edge...you could be right about the design i just dont see why there would be a line there unless it was the edge of the plastic strip
@BiKer3OOO of course, look at the candles on the table. they are not moving into the drivingdirection, but they are swinging around. all the stuff is hold by a magnet or something.....but very nice bike
Absolutely!! This is fun, great spot! If you watch the dishes at the end of the bike you will see that it is not a fake! Anyway, best add so far!! I love that!
I think they used a clear laminate sheet on which all the items were placed and the cloth under this perspex. You can see the items all moved an inch at the same time when the sheet it pulled. Still a good advert.
@zoomingvictor oh i agree with you on that...i have been watching mythbusters since season 1...love the extremes they go to just to confirm or bust a myth
I wonder how long, before editing, that guy was there fist pumping, throwing revs, and yelling "yeah!" after he did the trick. Some say he's sill there today.
the dream bike. i have always dreamed of owning a bmw vehicle. my sister has one. i too want🙈. I'll buy it myself someday. for sure. you don't only make cars, you guys make dreams and i want to make this one come true. and someday may be i will be a psrt of the bmw family. I'll get back the day i own one. for sure❤️
@chineesmunk Not really, i can tell you the most likely reason they pulled this off was because they had some sort of plexi glass or heavy plastic ontop of the table cloth then they had everything else sitting ontop of that(either just sitting or glued down), you can see the top of the table is a little more glossy than the sides, its an illusion and nothing more
i work for bmw motorbike assembly line in berlin. just doing the same concreting cycle every 7 minutes. indicator lights, headlights, covering, next... people tell me wow such beautiful motorbikes you build - but i would rather build washing machines ;-)
It is possible to make this, but in this video it is mega fake. The rope is too high mounted on the seat, it has to be lower, so that nothing jumps up.
if a is the acceleratioin of the motorcycle, g is the gravitational acceleration and u is the friction coefficient then the trick is possible if the following condition is met: a > u * g Now think that a motorcycle's acceleration is close to 1g and the friction coefficient between fabric and glass is pretty low. I don't know it's exact value but if you imagine that the coefficient for rubber/asphalt is 1 then glas/fabric is MUCH MUCH smaller so yes, So I'm sure it can be done
For me the ultimate bike was the Yamaha R1 just over a month ago I took a BMW S1000RR for a test ride, what can I say I'm the proud of a brand new S1000RR, best bike ever
@suppaman12 the notice how the table stays white part that was in my comment was a quote from someone else..i was posting that the table really is not white...its just highly glossed wood with white things on teh table ..which made it look white from a camera...with direct sun pouring in on it.
To all of the idiots calling this fake because "it can't possibly accelerate fast enough to pull the tablecloth with out moving the dishes" Read the description!!! the video was made to showcase the acceleration of the bike geniuses!!! and besides how could it possibly be fake? it's not like the dishes were glued, screwed, or nailed to the table magically without penetrating the tablecloth...if you look closely the dishes move just as much from the bike as the do from the guy in the beginning
Years later, I can say that the MythBusters tested this video, and they proven that the setup was faked. They put a sheet of clear plastic over the tablecloth and put the place settings on top of it.
It's a commercial folks. It doesn't matter if it's real. It made an entertaining point. If you think BMW is actually trying to sell you this bike to go and pull tablecloths out from under dinnerware you aren't their target anyway. It's entertainment, it got your attention, and now you're talking about their commercial--and that's no myth.
@DjSoulya ... I see what you are referring to but could that be a result of the end of the tablecloth waving in the turbulance and a slow speed camera? Not sure but way cool either way.
This was possible because they have a thin piece of plexiglass that was on top of the tablecloth. You can visibly see it when the end of the tablecloth flies off the end of the table.
This is an awesome illusion. It WAS more than proven completely that it can't be done realistically. But, how many magic tricks do you know that don't have a trick to them? X"D Personally, seeing them is half the fun, and figuring out how it was done is the other half. 8D So, I thank Mythbusters for showing me what I couldn't have found out myself. C8
For all you out there saying that this is fake...think again. It's simple physics. We've all seen it done a million times before...just not with the bike. Besides..you can see a lot of the stuff on the table moving when it's pulled, so it's clearly not fake..
I really don't know but I would bet fake, here's my theory: The forks etc at the end closest to the bike had to endure the full length of the cloth scooting under them. That's a lot of cloth. I think there would have been enough accumulated friction to move them off the table. That and the fact that the bike didn't have much slack in the ropes to generate great speed before the cloth started moving.
I think there's a thin plastic sheet anchored to the far side that the tableware sat directly on with the tablecloth between the sheet and the table itself. But great idea for a promotion of an awesome bike nonetheless.
And when the MythBusters tested what we see in this video, they did, indeed, put a plastic sheet over the tablecloth and secure it to the end of the table.
So much of Torque... If few hundreds of these kind started rolling at this acceleration and in same direction, they all will definitely effect the rotation of earth.
i think this could be possible. dont know if this is fake but with a smaller table and a bit bigger rope it seems that it could be done. untill the rope is streched the bike could get to a better speed and pull the thing easier
I thought you have to pull the cloth 45 degree downward if you do not want the glass bottle and plates to fall.. but the bike pulled it at a 180 angle..
@Gaua1 I think they used toothpicks and pipe cleaners myself...;) No, I agree here too. Even on the small table the items move a few inches in the direction of the pull, but nothing moves on the big table at all except for a little rocking, & very little. There's no close up or slo-mo like you said, so I agree it's not real. I'm a physics major too, and while it may be possible to do this with that many objects, not without some things moving about or possibly falling over, friction is no myth.
How exactly do you suggest they managed to fake this? Of course it's real. You just need a very slippery tablecloth, and maybe teflon coating on the bottom of all the candlesticks, plates etc. Then when they pan over the table at the end they put back anything that might have toppled over without you noticing in the main wide view shot.
*Edit*
Still here 14 years later, and it's still perfect!
You mean,,,,, 13 years?
@@erfandehghani353 Must have just changed😄
Will correct it now!
Even now in 2023, it still sounds epic to watch old things about BMW. Congratulations, BMW. Even in 2023
Regardless whether it's real...it is most definitely a great ad, very creative and well done. Bravo BMW.
Lol...Jeremy Clarkson did the same but with a nissan Gtr but failed epicly..😂😂
Shuvam Chhetri yeah
Shuvam Chhetri this video is fake anyways
Shuvam Chhetri jeremy clarckson appelle Nissan datsun

no, there's a clear plastic layer between the dishes and the tablecloth.

I don't care whether this movie is really taken or CG.
I'd like to admire that BMW tries to make such a fun promotion movie.
No other M/C makers can.
I like Aprilia's commercial, no nonsense, they just let everything fall
Cool trick. If I'm ever in the need of pulling table clothing I'll definetly get one. In the mean time I'll stick to my Honda CBR.

Nice editing
I love BMW Motorcyles!
@plumbdaddy822
They shook a little but didn't actually move like the objects in the mini table did.
Nice trick with a flat white thing which remain under the Bottles...even when BMw goes...!!!
3scity, it IS reasonable. Also, put a lot of fabric softener on the cloth for extra slip! ;-)
Throwback to that MythBusters episode
That bike is now a superhero
first dude is legit!!
haha, nice trick...but as it's a commercial they certainly helped with some silicon spray or similar.
Way cool! Don't know if it was faked or not. I hope not, but I'm sure the table cloth was a special material to help pull this off.
i could see this being real, either way its a good vid.
Fake or real it had me impressed, a great ad, a bit of a laugh and will probably lure the younger riders BMW is apparently after.
So much of Torque... If few hundreds of these kind started rolling at this acceleration and in same direction, they all will definitely effect the rotation of earth.
@jonal31 If speed was an issue, 100 mph certainly covered it.
@deyvid139 yea but the mythbusters werent using a BMW S1000 RR!! maybe they should try again.
esse viseo é muito legal nunca imaginei isso
Rather than a quick flick of the wrist, it's a quick flick of the accelerator.
@deyvid139 I'm not sure it was a fair test.
They used a stunt-bike powered by a Harley Davidson block; not a BMW S1000RR. =[
