Violinist Martin Davids and organist David Yearsley present "Dic nobis, Maria" by Heinrich Scheidemann (after Giovanni Bassano), performed here at Notre Dame University. This album of music from 17th century Hamburg follows in the footsteps of a legendary duo: organist Heinrich Scheidemann and violinist Johann Schop. Davids and Yearsley not only perform the historic duo's works, but perform these works with the same freedom, flexibility, and improvisatory spontaneity as would have been expected from musicians in the 17th century. As Thelonious Monk famously remarked, "there are no wrong notes on the piano," an attitude Davids and Yearsley bring to their vibrant, swinging performances.
