These machines are great! I love the porcelain tub! My aluminum tub Maytag isn’t quite this old, but I still use it every week. It really cleans good! Thanks for the video!

👍🇺🇸 I was 7 in 1972 & remember watching my great grandmother doing her wash with one of these old washers.
I’ve heard many stories of kids getting their hands caught in the wringers. Ouch!

Funny you should say that! ... I live in the United 🇬🇧 Kingdom, and around 1972, I got my hand caught in the mangle of an English Electric agitator washing machine! The machine originally belonged to my Victorian grandparents! It probably dated to the 1950's.

Considering that people change washing machine not because they are broken but cause new more advanced model is available and funny thing is new washing machine did more work than some these old machines that their owners brag about their age. Similar thing to old and new tractors. Some old tractor owners brag about their age even tho they are garage queens while some new tractors already has more hours.

Ok, but you didn't show how the washing wench dumped a large pot of hot water from the wood-fired stove and connected a hose from the sink for the cold water, so you'll need to fix that for the next competition.

A shame that the wringer roller were not stored open. Now they have flat spots.

No soap? Or do you have to change water how many times to get the soap rinsed out?

    • @thehotone12
      @thehotone12 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Yes soap was added at the beginning of wash.
You started with hot water for the cleanest whites and your next cleanest load up to the dirtiest for last load. Remember the pioneers before us had to draw water from the well which was extremely cold and they had to boil in a wash kettle took a long time to heat so you didn’t change your wash water every time. Gross it seems but we were all family! lol.
You had a tub of rinse water at the back of wringer were clothes came out to fall into now get in there with you hands and swish and pull up and down in water then wring out again then hang in the line.
My mother also told me that’s how they took their bathes cleanest to dirtiest.
      Good old day!
Swept the floors and the dirt went between the cracks of the floor and can see the chickens run underneath the house. Put blankets on the bed before you went to sleep and wake it with snow on them. Her parents and grandparents went through hell compared to what we have it today .

I have to agree.... The new ones are noisy... Expensive..... And cost too much to run.

2:00 i really appreciate the old stuff it's pretty cool but saying that modern ones are garbage is the most stupid thing i have ever heard. Try to put some stained clothes 13 pounds in that old one and compare the cleaning ability to the new one.

Actually you may be surprised to find out that despite having to ring out heavier items like towels, blankets and denim a few times, they do get clothes much cleaner and you can save on water. Even automatic machines like the Maytags from the 1960s were good but they used way too much water. Front loader HE machines do use less water and electricity (about the same as electric ringers) however the downfall is soap can be left in your clothes. Early machines like Easy, Laun-dry-ette and Salvage tried to eliminate the agitator and found it did not work as well without the friction. Most appliances now are purposely made with planned obsolescence and there is no law that says a manufacturer cannot. It just depends on what you want: More labor with cost, cleaning and longevity efficiency or automatic, new and with a guaranteed lifespan.

Those old washers were really sturdy, my mom had one when I was little in the mid 70s and they got them much cleaner.

@@whatweshouldknow5648 like the ones in video? I'm sure they can clean and it's easier than manual but you can't compare it to modern machines with many different cleaning programs and high rpm centrifuge.

@@acshore86 planned obsolescence doesn't exist because reputation is important. New quality machines will last a very long time because of reliable electronics, rust proof materials and the general advancements in design. Planes are computer controlled for the last 38 years yet they don't fall out of skies. And there's absolutely no way old ones clean better the physics don't add up. They save water because they turn the clothes in the same dirty water right? The modern ones empty the old water and put new one to rinse it out. Plus even more modern ones actually weight the clothes to determine how much water to use. Old machines can be useful but you can't compare them to modern stuff period.

@@dkdanis1340 With all do respect your beliefs and I do respect you for your opinion, I also do not believe in cognitive dissonance. We in society are given opinions that are labeled as fact instead of fact with open interpretations of opinions. There are pros and cons to both old and new. Older appliances lasted longer, and were able to be repaired, usually by one's own hands; unless something dangerous like a capacitor or Fre-On repair. We have the advantage of computers doing many things for us, however, the human brain can correct its error quicker than a computer. It is not a matter of just being better, it is also about quality control. Quality control and electrical safety did not exist like it does now, yet the flip-side is that quality and machinist labor was more on the industrial level; therefore the physical components upheld longer. Asbestos wiring is no longer used because it is now know to be toxic, break down and become stiffer with age; much like rubber. The difference is you can see rubber deteriorate so it is able to be eyeballed quicker. To say that computers are of a higher advantage is both a matter of opinion and statistics. Computers merely replaced what our brains did for us for millions of years. The last I'd like to point out is that we trade the labor intensity of manual labor for modulated and algorithmic programming; you either save money doing something yourself or save on labor and eat the cost in replacement sooner. Conformity usually wins out among the large populace.

You have to look online. I found a few locally. Not expensive either. About the same cost as the part, or part and repair for a new one. My washer started having problems today and I'm now looking at antique stuff.
