we went to a zoo near Sedona called Out of Africa wildlife park was really nice, they were feeding the hyenas which was really cool they sound so funny!!!
Teasing is how you get them to giggle. They do that when your cat or dog is meowing or whining in anticipation of food. If you've ever opened a can of tuna slowly, it's the same thing.
their laughs are signs of stress, or when they are out of food, or when they face towards dangerous predators. Don't really know why people think it's scary when it's actually sad.
I love it, the hyenas and humans are laughing together, at first I couldn't tell who was laughing but after a little bit I could tell easily. It was especially funny when the hyena tried to laugh while it had meat in it's mouth
Hyenas are some of the smartest and most effecient predators in Africa. The people who made Lion KIng reversed the roles of lions and hyenas. They're actually really friendly and loving creatures.
Their closest evolutionary relatives are cats, but hyenas diverged from what would later become the felidae family quite early, not long after feliformia and califormia diverged from each other...
I found this in Yahoo Answer. "The cackling sound made by spotted hyenas is not an actual laugh as we would understand it - they are not laughing because they find something amusing. It's pure coincidence that the sound resembles human laughter. It is actually used when the animal is nervous, such as when confronted by lions, or to show submission to a dominant clan member." -Leolupus, "I used to be a zookeeper and have studied animals all my life."
haha i wonder why they laugh tho? lol i guess cows moo just to be mooing and pigs oink just to oink. but hyenas... when they laugh it seems like one of those laughs that ur trying to hold back (like when some one trips) and it comes out anyways XD
It goes without saying. Seriously I don't know how people think that that noise is laughing because obviously no animal can laugh only humans. It's just common sense I mean it doesn't even sound like it's a laugh..
I was hanging out with an ole friend of mine days ago and he was laughing like a hyena he was told and that's why I had to look it up and it's so true.
Again those are not laughs. Dolphins or any primates also can not laugh. Those are merely noises they too also make for many reasons. Am I the only one who is able to grasp and understand this?
Hyena is Hyena, their own family. Not everything is 'a cat or a dog,' though they do resemble both a bit so it's easy enough to get confused. These are specifically Spotted Hyena, so the taxonomy is: Order Carnivora > Suborder Feliformia > Family Hyaenidae > Genus Crocuta > Species Crocuta Crocuta. Felid 'root' but not 'a feline.' Think of less 'is it a cat' and more 'what is it derived from,' the same way you'd consider the manufacturer of a vehicle separately from its build and weight class.
@AlexanderBrando The laugh to communicate with pack members under stimulating and stressful situations. They don't really "laugh" for the same reason humans, apes, or rats do.
Lol it's not a laugh. Hyenas use it to warn others or if they're nervous or if they're calling for backup or in general just to communicate. That should go without saying but it doesn't even sound like they're laughing and anyone with common sense knows that only humans can laugh..
I'll say the same thing I said to tailuigi. It may sound like a laugh to you (although I don't know how) what you hear is NOT a laugh. Animals do not laugh and they can not laugh. These noises they make are for the same reasons hyenas and many other animals with "laughing" noises have. My mom is a Naturalist and my twin brothers are Biologists. And I've been taught some things they know. Including this "laughing" behavior animals seem to display..
These are my pet humans, they feed me, and amuse me on a regular basis, they even bring by friends for us to watch.
They are still laughing over Mufasas' death
even though they're not really laughing, it's still funny as hell. especially when they're loud with it. :)
I love hyenas. I wish I could see some in person.

That guy on the right giving the heyena food didn't have to tease them!
AngeloR674 yeah even though my friend s call me hyena boy that's mean teasing a hyena the world most giggley animal.
Teasing is how you get them to giggle. They do that when your cat or dog is meowing or whining in anticipation of food. If you've ever opened a can of tuna slowly, it's the same thing.
AngeloR674 lol
they're so cute!
cutest laugh ever :)
Makes sense. My insane laugh is a threat to alert other people not to go near me.
"WHY ARE MY BABIES IN CAGES?!" --Harley Quinn
I always think of the lion king when I hear hyenas ! Haha I love their laugh!!
Ha ha ha I'm dying
their laughs are signs of stress, or when they are out of food, or when they face towards dangerous predators. Don't really know why people think it's scary when it's actually sad.
i like the hyenas ,they're too cute !
I love it, the hyenas and humans are laughing together, at first I couldn't tell who was laughing but after a little bit I could tell easily. It was especially funny when the hyena tried to laugh while it had meat in it's mouth

I liked the part of the clip where you could see the hyena preferred to be fed by the guy than eat the piece he threw over the fence.

Hyenas are some of the smartest and most effecient predators in Africa. The people who made Lion KIng reversed the roles of lions and hyenas. They're actually really friendly and loving creatures.
ok well i think i know what you're saying but what do you think more cat or more dog? if they were either wich one would they be?
Everything they're giving goes down the hatch, its amazing how they dont hafta chew that much XD
This made me laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh.
Like a hyena, coincidentally.
Their closest evolutionary relatives are cats, but hyenas diverged from what would later become the felidae family quite early, not long after feliformia and califormia diverged from each other...
now imagine hearing that laugh at night in the middle of the savanna alone.....
I found this in Yahoo Answer.

-Leolupus, "I used to be a zookeeper and have studied animals all my life."
the hyenas are probably thinking..."ow here coming the laughing humans...lol"
Hyenas are wonderful Animels
Are these legal to own? Cuz I want one. And I know where to get one

haha i wonder why they laugh tho? lol i guess cows moo just to be mooing and pigs oink just to oink. but hyenas... when they laugh it seems like one of those laughs that ur trying to hold back (like when some one trips) and it comes out anyways XD
oh my goodness!!!!my friend isabella is exaggerating i laugh nothing like the hyenas!!!lol!
they are sooooo cute. I want one....but they are better off in the wild
It goes without saying. Seriously I don't know how people think that that noise is laughing because obviously no animal can laugh only humans. It's just common sense I mean it doesn't even sound like it's a laugh..
Cover I think it’s that the noise is similar to a laugh, even though it isn’t a laugh itself
i like it
Hyenas laugh better then ppl
0:46 best laught ever xD look at his Mouth ;D
I was hanging out with an ole friend of mine days ago and he was laughing like a hyena he was told and that's why I had to look it up and it's so true.

Hyenas are vicious little creatures. A pack of 6 can take down a water buffalo on there own. A pack of 12 or 15 can take down a hippo.
Oooooooooooh it just TINGLES me !
Funny thing is people actually think they're laughing lol. Its just a noise they make when they're excited - like the dog's bark.
I love hyena's laugh. It makes me laugh back. We must take of those magnificent creatures. Bring them back savanna.
0:49 lol!
thats awesome hahaha
The Hyenas laugh is a threat to alert other predators not to go near their food.
They say that 15 minutes of laughing = a day of life so Hyenas Are IMMORTAL
Lion King brought me here.
same here i thought they were smaller, they could easily get through fence lol strongest bite out of all the animals i think
Jeez they eat a lot! :o
HAHAHEHEHE.
More chicken, please.
they sound like "tickle me Elmo"...
yeah they are wild frickin animals
Now, I understand, why my friends say i laugh like an hyena.... :DxD Nice vid. :))
Those hyenas sure think something's really funny!
Mufassaaaaa *shudders*... Do it again!

if i ever heard this loguh i would be scared shit-less
Ed laghing LOL.
not sure but i think they laugh when they are interested in something they can eat
@CopycatStudios Their bone-crushing jaws, those "come here, but be sure to count your fingers" giggles, the body built to fuck shit up.
future hyenas food is some fried rice i think
Lol it's not a laugh. Hyenas use it to warn others or if they're nervous or if they're calling for backup or in general just to communicate. That should go without saying but it doesn't even sound like they're laughing and anyone with common sense knows that only humans can laugh..
How i laugh every day....
Funny!
