I've seen this movie no less than a thousand times! My favorite movie ever. Ruined my VHS copy, then I ended up with a soft copy. Watched it every day for a couple years back in high school. I know the whole script by heart.
@@Itstoolate496 same. As far as my research went, last I checked, it didn't exist on DVD. They never made it. There was actually a petition to have it put on DVD, but nothing ever came from it. So I just downloaded a soft copy. I honestly don't even remember where I downloaded it from though
The way Talbert crescendos this speech all the to "prove my f***ing POINT" was brilliant! Not sure what became of him later. The only thing I ever remember of him was a small throw-away part in Van Wilder. He was a great young actor though. Wonderful performance!
He has his own show now called the Charlie Talbert show. The kid who played Troy is his best friend in real life and they still hang out all the time. He's still very active in film
Great movie. Rented it several times on VHS as a teen. This scene always got me hype because I WAS Angus, except I wasn't tall and didn't play ball... so, yeah, just short and fat 😄🤣
I’m an engineer with two masters degrees from the most advanced & prestigious polytechnic institute in the known universe (the _Massachusetts Institute of Technology)._ The very basis of the of Angus’ presented hypothesis is faulty; bravery isn’t the factor, resilience & longevity are
Most underrated monologue. Charlie Talbert kills this scene and you have to click "full cast" to see his name on the movies' imdb page. Rude. And yes, it is Bethune.
He didn't blow it. The prestigious school actually accepted him, but he made the decision not to attend. That is what he says in the closing narration.
His father was gay and was supposed to be included in the film. But before filming began it was rejected for an unknown reason at the last second. Thus, Angus in the film explained that his father died after he was born and that he was raised by both his mother and narcoleptic grandfather, Ivan.
@@ladyfire44 we know what the reason was. They didn't want to acknowledge gay people in a teen movie in the 90s. Its fucked up but it's true. It's not like anything sexual was going on, it should be no different from having a heterosexual relationship acknowledged. Also in the story his dad AND mom are both gay and he gets bullied for it on top of being fat. The author of the story is Chris Crutcher and he's also gay and wrote these themes into short stories for teens that were appropriate and important long before anyone else was doing it. His books have been banned by conservative schools for decades. He is a hero to gay kids everywhere.

I've tried to find it on dvd for ages after I burnt my VHS out, great movie

The most underrated film of all time. This scene is IT!!!
We should be friends :)
Not really, it is not a great movie by any means, but it was a godo product of its time.

My most rented movie from Blockbuster.
I rented this from blockbuster too. One of my fav films. Indie classic
Yet another forgotten role of Kathy Bates. Such a caring single mom. ❤
as a kid, this was my introduction to the legend, followed by The Waterboy and her small bit in Rat Race

I got ya bro.
I'm almost 40 but if you ever get fucked with I'm that guy. The one who sticks up for people.
This script is gold.

Thank you! I was looking for this scene! You're awesome!

the name is spelled BETHUNE... Just as information. :)
This film and this theory inspired me 20 years ago
I'm living proof of tis theory!! 😂 So many amazing sentiments in this film. Angus is a dream !! This awesomeness is not allowed to exist

He was an unknown that’s the way it works.
Love this movie so much wish it got more recognition. “ atleast these are my teeth .. these are my teeth ! I guess u paid for em “ 😅
When Angus talks about the element, he's talking about himself.
Wow, I think you cracked the code! 🤯
@@philihp indeed
Philihp 😂😂😂😂😂
It even matches Angus wearing red, while everyone else wore blue at the school assembly
Well done Columbo 👏
Angus was a hero to all of us outcast kids in the 90's. Screw em Angus!
there is no normal 1:22
Chris Crutcher would be pissed. His name is Angus Bethune.
Let Angus Go Have His Moment
But the video. I did! Wish I could find it on DVD.., I'd get it then, too. :)
I got a DVD copy off Amazon. Although it’s a DVD-R.
It’s part of the Warner Archive Collection.
Good video Good scene
Good movie.
Bethune*
Is this the Crazy Misery Lady?🙀🇦🇹
*Buy.., not but.
Now, if I could only find the whole wedding scene with his grandfather...oh well. :/
That's dumb he just blew a major scholarship and his mom smiles at the end haha
You clearly didn't watch the movie dummy?
He didn't blow it. The prestigious school actually accepted him, but he made the decision not to attend. That is what he says in the closing narration.
The interviewer is the most annoying character in movie history
He was a great character. Your post is annoying
I think they should remake this movie , with the gay parents

@@chrisjenkins963 think Rick was also supposed to be heavily closeted too. with all those details in mind, the dialogue makes a lot more sense
