    One of the best reviews for what I’ve ever seen. Pretty detailed, you certainly did your homework before posting your video, mostly appreciated. This was the information I was needing before deciding on a purchase. Found it on eBay for $399 with shipping from Japan to US, should be here in 2wks. Thanks Amigo. Just subscribed to your channel.

    This is not sold in the 🇺🇸 I got mine from eGlobal Central in Hong Kong. $369 including shipping. It gets more wrist time than any of my watches including a ton of G-Shocks and my Omega Moon Watch, Seamaster & Planet Ocean. It's a fantastic, lightweight watch. Time automatically updates via atomic signal every night. Compass is spot on. Ditto for Barometer and Altitude

    • @PerthWAtch

      Thanks for the comment! It's available from Amazon, not sure if you consider that "Sold in the US" but AFAIK the stock is probably held in the US. But perhaps it's not sold through the 'usual' dealers, hence the difficulty I had in finding an MSRP listing. Totally agree that it's an amazing full-featured watch that does a ton! Cheers, Ivan.

  • @garyk4017

    My understanding is that the orange and black parts of the case are resin, not aluminum or steel, but the bezel is steel.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The black case may well have a resin coating of some form but it feels *very* different to G-Shock resin, so I suspect it is a thinner layer. The orange bit surrounding the black steel bezel is definitely a metal of some sort; Casio officially states that this is aluminium: protrek.com/asia-mea/en/watches/PRW-6100series/
      (see near bottom of webpage where it described the *dual-layered bezel* )

    • @garyk4017
      @garyk4017 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. This site, and many others, say the case is resin and the bezel is stainless steel:
      www.casio-intl.com/asia/en/wat/watch_detail/PRW-6100Y-1/
      If the lower bezel is actually aluminum, this is a good thing.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Martin! I'm just pasting from a forum in answer to your question:
      Other than the styling, the main differences are the screw down crown on the PRW-6100 versus the cam lock crown on the PRW-6000, and also an STN LCD on the PRW-6100 versus a standard LCD on the PRW-6000 (STN LCDs have wider viewing angles).

    I wear and love my basic DW-5600 as it does what I need....yet there are so many great functions on the ProTrek that I almost wish I needed one...but then I would just be paying for a bunch of features that I would seldom if ever use. Very good presentation, thank you! (BTW I've heard a rumor that, at least in the US, the atomic radio signals are soon to be discontinued, rendering all atomic time pieces useless. Do you know anything about this? Thank you).

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for that. Yes I believe I have seen sources reporting that the AT antenna signal will be discontinued in the near future (although I can't recall when). So that means that the AT function which relies on this signal will no longer work, but IMO these watches will still be *far from useless* , after all we never used to have this function! Living in Perth I don't get the signal anyway and hence reset these watches every 6 months, which is fine for me and most people.
      Btw it's not all AT Watches - any AT watch that uses GPS satellite signal or Bluetooth will still work fine.
      Cheers, Ivan.

    • @tomigresz2024
      @tomigresz2024 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I think pro treks are very rugged watches anyway. Of course it's not a G-Shock, but than again, G-Shocks are over-engineered. I mean what normal person would throw his watch from the top of a building, just for the fun of it :)? I have a Protrek Prw-40 series from 2003 and it is still working perfectly after 15 years, and believe me, it took some abuse

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Digital quartz are pretty tough overall and a Pro Trek should weather most situations fine... a G-Shock with resin will absorb the dings whereas a Pro Trek might show the wear after a while.

  • @ashleyblack3941
    @ashleyblack3941 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if im going to ask anyone I might as well ask a fellow Aussie. I'm currently in the market for a watch that displays time and temperature at a glance, that said how accurate is the temperature reading on the watch? or watches in general? is it actually worth spending the money for something that will be out by ten degrees or so with body heat. anyways cool vid, rock on!

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ashley, thanks for the support! Well firstly all of the Casio models I have featured on the channel that have a temp sensor will display this at a touch of a button, but don't have option to display it perpetually. So whilst time you will get at a glance, temp requires a button press. The sensor is rated accurate to within 0.5C I believe but you're absolutely right in that it is affected by the heat from your wrist, so not accurate in that setting. If using it seriously, this will usually mean measuring how cold it is, and you would consider wearing it on the outside of clothing so it's most accurate. Cheers, Ivan.

    • @ashleyblack3941
      @ashleyblack3941 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Perth WAtch thanks Ivan, I actually thought you could set the lcd data display to any of the settings to read perpetually, that is a shame. I'm currently investigating the option of a watch 'cuff' to create a barrier between the watch and skin to assist in a more accurate temperature reading. thanks again.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I wouldn't take my word as gospel by any means... I'm pretty sure about not being able to display sensor readings perpetually, but you can check out the module manuals to be 100% sure.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just checked for Rangeman - it states that the temp display goes back to default after one hour of no operation. Likely similar for other models I would think.

    • @ashleyblack3941
      @ashleyblack3941 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Perth WAtch cool thanks for checking, that is interesting, that would give enough time to check differences in temperature between areas within an hour, which especially in a vehicle one can cover a fair amount of ground. thanks for that, especially considering this is a considerable expense for me, am looking at pro-treck safari.
