Wondering wtf they’re doing standing in chocolate contaminating it all
The Mayans lived in the southeastern region of Mesoamerica, primarily in what is now modern-day Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The heartland of the Maya civilization was the Yucatán Peninsula, which includes present-day areas of Mexico such as the Mexican states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Campeche. The ancient Maya civilization thrived from around 2000 BC to about 1500 AD, with its peak during the Classic Period from about 250 AD to 900 AD. The Maya civilization was known for its advanced architecture, mathematics, astronomy, hieroglyphic writing, and complex city-states.
THANK YOU! I was so taken aback I rewound and listened again. Yep, not all info is sus. Chocolate is from South America. **Facepalm**
I hope they will correct this. @@BookAndLace
@@BookAndLace thought there was something wrong with my ears when I heard Africa an Mayan in the same sentence
I was just about to comment on that, when I saw your comment!
Agreed…I second guessed myself for a second. Not Africa.
0:30 First time hear, that Maya came from Africa. Something went wrong... As far as I know Maya are native people in South America (territory of modern Mexico, Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras).
In any case, thank you for this educational video.
North America*
Mexico, Guatemala, (El) Salvador and Honduras are part of North America.
But actually "the lompa lompa " are from Africa
“Docu” made for US Americans with little to no knowledge about geography.
Mayan’s lived on the Yukatan peninsula, today Mexico.
And the Aztec were in fact the chocolate crazed (origin of the word chocolate = Xocolatl) - when the Spaniards came to todays Mexico and brought chocolate and so many other fruits and vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, paprika, etc.) to the old world.
Only in 1876 the chocolate tree was introduced successfully into Africa, that is 380 years after it was first discovered in the Americas by the Spaniards.
Yep
Don't forget the chocolate-tier may have stolen the recipe as well. You said 380 years ago, yep sounds about right ...
Just know that not all of us US Americans are this dumb. I was just as quick to go "wtf? Romans never had chocolate! And Africa?! Really?"
Mayans.
We also know very little about grammar.
But I was also like /screeching brakes/ NOPE, with the "Why are they showing a Greek or Roman statue?"
This is why I'm giving the side-eye to kids looking stuff up on TH-cam as a form of education.
😂😂 This is so crazy!! There are millions of Mayas in Mexico & Central America. The Egyptian pyramids are different structure than the Mayan pyramids. I've been to the Mayan Pyramids & met The Mayan People in Central America.
I was actually waiting for the labourers standing in choco pond 😑

But is not cheap too
@@kappukuppu7034 You know you can eat things in moderation? Right?
I honestly thought this was a joke video at first. The Mayans didn't live in Africa. They were a Central American culture. And caco beans came from the Amazon Rainforest in South America. A quick google search shows they were first domesticated around 5,300 years ago before being introduced in Central America by the Olmecs around 4,000 years ago. The Maya did use it but they had nothing to do with it being grown in Africa. It was much later that the Spanyards took it to Africa where much of the crop is grown today.
also i'm shiocked how few people caught it in the comments and how few liked your comment. crazy
I stopped watching after they mentioned that :|
Yes exactly. I assumed this was a mockumentary immediately... and then scrolled comments to discover barely anyone noticed 😞
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. XD
If you listen carefully he only mentions the Mayans after he says those conditions are only met at area around the equator. Common sense extends this area to both Africa and South America
Amazing. I'll never look at cocoa powder the same again while baking. And say a little thank you to the harvesters hard work.
Seeing this as a Ghanaian brings a lot of childhood memories with my late grandad who passed on some years back. I used to visit the cocoa farm with him in the village on the weekend on 5 miles walking distance
Ghanaian people doesn't profit from this very sad
Because white people are greedy.
Did you try the chocolate back then
@@sameerahussain2377 yes I did but unfortunately, some of these local farmers haven't seen or tasted chocolate before
Thank you for your work to make the world a tastier place!
Mayans in Africa? Then who were those guys in Central and South America?
Yep I have coco trees by me I usually dry the seeds the same process then blend it to powder and use to make tea ,the white substance Around the seeds is also edible very sweet
🔥
I used to pick cocoa fruits from the tree to enjoy eating the delicious fruit pulp that enveloped the seeds.
Looks like such a modern invention and process....mind blowing that it's been around thousands of years
Didn't realize how much it took to make chocolate. It's so good to me. Was fun to watch. Great video
Thanks so much 😊
Yummy yummy 😋😋🤤🤤
Concidering this video says that the mayans are African, I don't think I can trust anything said in this upload 😂 even my 8 year old niece knows the mayans aren't from Africa
In response to your last sentence:
Does your 8 year old niece know about the Ibibios? or Ekpo? The thing is, knowledge has nothing to do with common sense. But we always see a lack of information as a show of low IQ. I have never heard about the Mayans. Never. This is my first time. But I am smart as shit. I only pay attention to what I find useful to my own life's journey. And don't be confused by my response, you can defend the irrelevance of my response to your comment, but I am simply responding to the vibe your last sentence gave me. With love 💕❤
😂
If you didn't trust anything that are said in video, then Where does chocolate come from? on apples? Nuts?
0:30 WRONG "Our journey starts all the way in "LATIN AMERICA not Africa, where cacao trees grow wild. The first people to use chocolate were probably the Olmec of what is today southeast Mexico.
Now the
Kevin Bacon wasn’t in Footloose
This is probably one of the most delicious videos I ever seen 😍
Thank you 😋
NO ITS SOD!!
this is timely, especially after the rumors of mixing up small insects with the cocoa beans that makes some of people stop eating chocolates
The beautiful chocolate made by beautiful heart peoples..❤❤
Thanks a lot now I’m craving chocolate😊
chocolates is a long process thats why it is expensive in the market. From traditional way of making this is not easy but the taste is really good.
Yes, you are right
@Factora_eng Mayans in Africa? Never heard that before. How did they cross to South America? And why? It makes no sense. Why did the Mayans have straight hair and were lighter skin? If Australian aborigines still have wooly hair, how did the hair of mayans straighten? It makes no sense. Why and how they cross such a huge ocean? You don't go yo the beach and say "we have so much land and resources here, let's sail across the sea", an ocean in fact. And not be anxious that there is any land on the other side. I'm confused.
It's just embarrassing that the makers of this video think the Mayans lived in Africa
Where is that stated?
Cacao trees grow in a limited geographical zone, of about 20° to the north and south of the Equator.

Chocolate’s origins are in Latin America, not Africa. Cacao came to Africa from Brazil in 1822. Mayans lived several countries in Central America, Guatemala was home to many Mayans throughout the years. Two different geographical locations. Hopefully you can update your video to be correct.
Cocoa have been in south east and south South Nigeria long before the 1500s
Thank You. Chocolate was considered a “new world” discovery.
@@divine3608that may be. But it was the MYAN that were using it regularly.
Cacao was an import to Africa. It originated in the americas taken to Africa by European traders

Hershey's has a nice little tour/ride of how chocolate is made if you visit their factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania. And you get a Hershey's Kiss at the end of the tour/ride (I was with people who marveled at how much chocolate they USED to give out at the end of the tour/ride).
This has to be the best doco I've seen on how chocolate is made. You'd have to agree, yes?

Such an impressive process.
Wow, such an amazing way!!
I wonder who first invented them n the entire process❤😊its really hard. N the process n people engage in it my love with u all.
When i think about it chocolate is the logical conclusion on cocoa bean. First the nut from south America. Tasted bitter, so they put it in a pan and fried it a little to get rid of the shell. Still bitter, but sugar started to get availible. Mixed it together. Ah good taste, put some milk in it and had an amazing paste. So it needed drying...rest is chocolate😁
Thank you for supporting my channel. Wishing you a good and happy day
I had to see this when it looked like people standing in a pool of chocolate.
Its really fum to watch this video i didn't know about this. Hat's off to the great efforts
Excuse me? The Mayans lived in Africa? And these African Mayans - who seem to have teleported there from South America - discovered the secrets of the cacao tree? Those ancient Mayans also look suspiciously like modern-day Ghanaians. And then, at around 2.23 into the video, the African Ghanaians turn into Costa Ricans. Thankfully, the rest of the video appears to be relatively accurate. But really, getting the geography and history so completely wrong is nothing but laziness.

The MAYANS DIDNT LIVE IN AFRICA!!! Geeez, come on... They lived in Central America, predominantly the Yucatan peninsula, they were descendants of the Olmec people (most likely) and share mitochondrial DNA with other Native American populations including the DNA of the Inupiat people of Alaska thus proving they were decendants of Native Americans who emigrated across the Bering Sea land-bridge along with all other Native American populations.
Sure, the Maya cultivated and traded cacao, but they didn't do ANYTHING in Africa. The Mayan people were EXTINCT long before the first Cacao tree was planted in Africa. The Portuguese planted the first Cacao trees on the island of San Thome (off French Gabon) around the year 1822.
The Maya civilization began as long ago as 1000BC, flourished from 250AD-600AD, and had almost totally collapsed by 900 AD.... So... about A THOUSAND YEARS in between the two.
2:15 First, an innocent cocoa bean bag is made out as an example to the employees who don't meet their daily quota, its succulent beans spill into the collection tray

Uh, we kids suck on the milky white substance, it's vary sweet😅, before our grandma washes and dries them in the sun. And she will manually fry and process the beans to become a coarse chocolate version. Tablea!❣

"The cacao tree was first domesticated by the Mokaya and Olmec peoples of Central America and Mexico. And over 4,000 years ago, cacao was being used by pre-Columbian cultures of the Yucatán, including the Mayans. But the Olmecs were the ones who undoubtedly passed their knowledge of cacao to Central American Mayans."
The Mayans were in southern Mexico and Guatemala
