  • Is the new Fujifilm XF 56mm f1.2 R WR way better than the legendary 56mm f1.2? Yup. Better sharpness, better bokeh, better autofocus, and better close focus. For the same price as the original lens. This video is just a formality. If you're a portrait, wedding, documentary, or family photographer that shoots Fujifilm... you need this lens. End of discussion.

In most situations 33mm 1.4 but just bought Sigma 56 1.4 very light, sharp and 1/3 price of new Fuji ;) just aperture ring missing;( and not so sharp on the edges but for portrait it’s not needed;)

Thank you so much for this review! I loved the 56 1.2 R but it has a really annoying focusing bug with the X-T4 - I've been on the 50mm 1.0 ever since I upgraded from my X-T2s because of that. I've grown to love the sharpness and autofocus improvements the 50 has over the old 56, but I miss that small size SO MUCH. This review had the exact info I was looking for, thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

Definitely been considering this lens for a while. I'm really enjoying the look you can get with a short and fast telephoto lens. I have had the 7artisans 50mm F/0.95 for some time and enjoying the fun and creative results you can get with it. Buuut, especially after getting the X-T5, I really do wish I had the same sort of focal length and high speed, but with autofocus and actual sharpness lol.
I have the XF 90mm F/2 as well, but it's of course pretty big and also too "narrow" for a lot of day-to-day usage.
Anyways, great video on the lens! Hope it's still rocking and rolling for you!

Hi Reggie, very nice initial review! Your content is always honest and inspiring. I’ve learnt so much from you here on YT as well as your IG.
Speaking of the lens, I already have the 50mm F1 and am sticking with it. Yes, it is larger, heavier and not as sharp wide open, but something about that bokeh at F1 - F1.4 on the 50 F1, it is smoother and creamier (not the amount of bokeh) and also the fall off between in focus and out of focus is still nicer on the F1. But the biggest draw for me on the 50 F1 is actually the focal length itself. 50mm is just that little bit wider than the 56 and I do find it more versatile, especially in tighter environments. I think the 50 F1 is very similar to the GF80mm F1.7. But love that Fujifilm now has two equally fantastic portrait lens to choose from! Happy shooting!

I pre-ordered it the moment it was available. The 16 1.4 and 56 1.2 have been my two favorite Fuji lenses, so the improvements to this new one are a no-brainer for me. The first time I used it I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and responsive it is and how little it hunts compared to the Mark I. Even at f/2.8 I find the backgrounds just dissolve into dreamy abstraction. I am hanging onto the original for the time being to be able to throw it on an old body like the X-E2S (and because the market's going to be flooded with them right now), but I don't see ever going back to it for any serious work.

3:34 Fujifilm has incorporated 8 elements with the lens focus group that move when focusing. Thus they have managed to minimise aberration fluctuation from infinity to MOD, by moving the aperture together with the lens focus group.
To move the focus group, a DC motor is used for autofocus. They have incorporated three bearing mechanisms with the DC motor for smoother autofocus performance. The bearing mechanics ensure highly accurate control of the DC motor.
