Purple Rain hands down. Thriller had arguably the greatest entertainer of all time ,greatest producer of all time,the best session musicians in Los Angeles,and one of the all time song writers and STILL has a clunker with that Paul McCartney song. Why they chose that instead of Carousel I’ll never know. Purple Rain is flawless. From beginning to end. Prince by himself was able to stand against all that Mike had and still made something better. Mike honestly needs his videos to compete. Thriller the song only wins cuz the video. It’s flash vs substance.

I like both albums I really do I have both of them but the album I like better personally is Thriller because each song was really unique in they’re own ways and I remember listening to it the first time I didn’t know what to expect and after listening to it I was like wow that’s the best album I’ve ever heard. Purple rain was good to but I only like the 3 popular songs Purple Rain,Let’s go crazy and When doves cry and the rest of the songs were to sexual for me that’s why I like the Thriller album better from front to back because you never know what was gonna happen next after listening to each song I never got that from Purple rain. But no disrespect to Purple rain that’s one of my all time favorite albums but Thriller is the best in my opinion.

Thriller is more iconic (though Purple Rain is legendary in its own right) but Purple Rain is a much stronger album. Flows better from front to back as a cohesive record, no weak songs on it (whereas Thriller has The Girl is Mine) and it’s aged better too thanks to the less dated, grittier production style that Prince brought to the table.
I think you mean what is more your taste. But when we talk about better, we have to take all the factors and facts into account. Because no one can argue with someone's taste. But personally I think more people feel Michael's music than Prince. In terms of age and race. GREETINGS FROM HOLLAND.
