    For those who don’t know, though you may have figured it out by watching the video, he was probably trying to get Naka on something dumb like the touch-move rule, even though Naka had already touched and moved his pawn, and also hit the clock, prior to knocking over his rook. Technically, there may had been some grounds if the first thing Naka had done on his time was knock that rook over, but even if it had happened prior to Naka hitting his clock and then hitting his clock afterwards, it still wouldn’t have mattered. FIDE rule 7.5.1 just state that the last legal position before the illegal move was made will be assumed. Some types of illegal moves, such as castling with two hands, result in 2-minutes being added to the other person’s clock, but I don’t believe this is even an instance of that. Regardless, it takes two illegal moves for someone to lose a game by default. The guy was just looking for a cheap way to beat an Naka.
    Edit: also, there is a chance that I’m wrong about this either because I read the rules wrong or this is a tournament where they don’t play by FIDE rules, and if so, feel free to correct me. However, there is actually another video on this channel with Naka where his opponent does play an illegal move (he moves his king into a position where it’d be in check) so they just go back to the last legal position and add time to Naka’s clock.

    For those who didn't understand this video now that chess is getting more popular:
    If you have a dropped piece and don't fix it BEFORE hitting the clock in blitz, that means you broke the rule as you didn't fix the piece on your own time, so you automatically lose the game.
    In this case, Hikaru hit the clock, had already moved his piece, and when he drew back his hand he accidentally knocked a rook and set it back.
    I'm not sure on any rules about dropping a piece during your opponents turn, but in regards to the rule of fixing a piece that was dropped before the clock, but fixing it after hitting the clock, this rule was not broken.
    I'm fairly certain there isn't a rule about fixing a piece you dropped on your opponents time. There are of course rules such as the "touch-move" rule, but that only applies if the person was *intentionally* touching the piece.
    In this clip, Hikaru had no intention of touching the rook, let alone dropping it, he quickly fixed it, and tried to move forward. Zhigalko then tried to get Hikaru on this. I personally think at a professional tournament, in the "competitive spirit" you *should* try to get a win, and in this case I don't blame Zhigalko going for it, but what I DO blame Zhigalko for is that those watching, as well as Zhigalko, we see Hikaru move a pawn, Zhigalko's eyes are glued on the movement, we see Hikaru reach for, and then hear the click of the clock. *THEN* we see and hear the rook be dropped, and immediately fixed.
    It's obvious that Zhigalko was in a worse position and was trying to get a W, one way or another. There wasn't anything manly, cool, or honorable about what he did. Competitively, I understand what he did, but ethically and morally I disapprove. This is a gentleman's sport, etiquette matters. Zhigalko ignored etiquette and still lost, it hurts to watch this for me.
    I'd also like to point out I don't actually like Hikaru (I'm more of a Drunk Magnus fan), but I think Hikaru was in the right here, and Zhigalko was just wrong.

    • @daringdarius5686
      @daringdarius5686 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Deamonias I just like Magnus because he seems like somebody you could grab a beer with, and have a good time.
      Hikaru seems too aggressive, and toxic (this was mostly hearsay, but after recent revelations made by... the entire GM crowd it's more or less confirmed for me). I get being competitive, and from what I've seen Hikaru has mostly straightened out, or at the very least covered it up (mostly). But I don't think we could ever be friends.
      We are just too different. In how we deal with life, friends, and even chess. I do respect the hell out of him though, not just anybody can swagger into a top rated GM spot (at one point I believe he hit 7th place, maybe even 6th, in the world)

      Don't try to justify him. He is a manchild. A crybaby. He lacks integrity, honor, professionalism. And no, he shouldn't do anything to win whether it's competitive or not. These things do happen. You have a bad day or not enough sleep or your hand is shaky but you put the piece back in one second. That is really irrelevant especially when they both had 13 minutes left when really at this level they can play a good game in 3 minutes. Extremely surprised with zhigalko's behaviour as he is a very good player and at the same time dissapointed. Reminds me of inarkiev vs carlsen when inarkiev claimed some illegal move which was completely ridiculous. At this high level these men should demonstrate more fair play

      He didn't seem to have a real plan. He fiddled with his knights entirely too much, and his bishops had little effect on the game at all.
      Allowing your opponent to take the center of the board so completely is a sure way to lose.
      He played like he was afraid to lose a piece. Or a single second of time, apparently.
      Maybe seeing that piece get knocked over threw him off his game? Sometimes it's the little things....
