Started off as a slick car salesman with a charming voice

Although Peri sounds a bit more nasal-y than squeaky

I think the Fairy's voices get squeaky due to stress/exhaustion/over use of magic, just like how Cosmo (and Wanda, too, a little) started out with a smooth, charming voice in the pilot and the earlier seasons of the original show.
Peri *is* under stress, mosty pressure from his parents and the pressure of doing well with his first godkid when the godkid is a brat.
I don't know which episode it is in the original series when its explained that fairies go insane (or loose their smarts) when they use too much or too little magic. Timmy definitely made Cosmo and Wanda loose their minds lmao.

I just think the canon reason Peri's voice goes from slick to squeaky/nasily is that Dev is just stressing him out like hell to where any cool demeanor he had at the start of his job was chipped out till he started to crack. The kid is like Timmy, but worst. Worst attitude, worst wishes, worst parent; at least Timmy has a proper name. What kind of dad or parents in general names their kid Development?! It's like naming your kid Work in Progress. Abriviate it to Wip, and I'm sure you'll be visted by CPS and the FBI.
Peri is getting the experience of "I hope you get a kid JUST LIKE HIM!" and unfortunately, Peri got the TIMMY end of the deal.

@EeveelutionStorm Nah, Dev is worse than Timmy. I won't let people gaslight me into thinking Timmy was 100% awful like they did with Mable. Sure, he has done some selfish and bad things, but he isn't pure evil and has done some generous deeds and has saved the day multiple times. At least when he makes a mess, he cleans it up. Hazel had to clean Dev's mess, and if she didn't, the lives of faries would be put in jeopardy, especially Peri, since magical backup is now fatal instead of a hindrance in the original.

Though I will be fair and mention Timmy, with the help of Jimmy Neutron, created a guy named Shirly who was their super villain play thing that he planned to at minimum abandon at a mall or at worst have planted a bomb in him to make him explode and cease to exist. Forget the 50-year secret time wish thing cause he didn't want to lose his real family. That's the only thing I can't defend Timmy on.
Could it be the suave voice was something he had prepared for years before the day 😂😂

So Godparenting Timmy stressed Cosmo out so much it affected him mentally and strained his vocal chords... I'm gonna headcanon it
idk why his voice is an issue for so many ppl. he sounds just fine. they most likely made him sound more smooth and professional at first because thats how he wanted to appear, especially to his first god kid. but the more he appears, the more “cosmo-y” he sounds, because not only is the stress from Dev melting away his calm professional demeanor, so is him just getting closer to the people around him. naturally, he’d stop masking his real voice the more he hangs around his folks. i think its a nice touch.

It's hus first God child, he has absolutely no idea how out of control kids can be, especially rowdy ones. I'd be more impressed he stayed collected throughout. But character development is needed, so ehh
because both voices chosen for him get rather annoying after a while.

I grew up with the original. I remember not really caring much about magic buildup as a concept because it seemed like a silly one-off gag, when it was first introduced I didn’t really grasp the severity of it because it just made fairies turn into balloons and when they exploded it seemed like they were still alive, just temporarily turned into confetti.
This series tho really does play up the disturbing nature of it. The fact it’s re-introduced via fairies holding what are essentially obituaries, and seeing Peri bloated, in pain, incoherent and vomiting what’s essentially blood. It reminds me of a horror manga about an infection that does something similar, it’s disturbing 💀

@@lelduck6388 Nope, it was not Junji Ito. The plot of the manga was that there was a pandemic that started in Japan and had a 100% mortality rate. Patient zero was bloated like Peri gets, and the autopsy doctors had to use hazmat suits because cutting into him made the infectious fluid explode.

I love how he's honestly just as goofy as his parents. He's trying to be independent, but he's also stressed because he's literally doing this for the first time as someone independent AND someone that a child is meant to be relied on.
But also I adore how he clearly loves his parents despite how EASY it could've been to have a "I resent my parents for being overbearing or something" episode with him. But he just wants to make them proud.
And it's just so cute to see him also egg on his parents goofier sides when he's being the most logical in certain situations. Like cheering on Cosmo's dancing skills or just rolling his eyes at Wanda's flirts to Cosmo. It's great.
He sounds a lot less smooth when stressed.

I never realized that his voice became less suave over time. It's a lot more subtle than Cosmo's voice change.
I feel like the reason why his voice is slick and suave at first before getting silly and squeaky is not just stress from having Dev as a first godkid, but also stress from being a fairy godparent in general. The thing about being a fairy godparent is that you have to _parent_ your godkid and teach them life lessons and give them emotional support. Peri seems to have been taught that just granting wishes makes you an effective godparent (also backed up by Jorgen describing Cookie as a great godparent despite her ignoring her godkid's needs), so he's stressed out by being assigned to a kid who needs emotional support and either he doesn't understand that or he doesn't know how.
It's like going into school to be a lawyer based on what you see on TV, only to actually get the job and realize it's more stressful than you thought.
Not fairy godparent being given the job of being a random kid's parents because their bio parents aren't good.
Peri's dynamic with both Dev and his parents is an absolute wellspring of wonderful stories...
I feel so bad for Peri. He got bad luck with who he's assigned to. First, Dolores Crocker, back when Peri was a baby. She abused his power when she kept wishing for things to be granted overnight. He, Cosmo, and Wanda left CA once Timmy grew up. Poof legally changed his name to Periwinkle "Peri" and became a fairy godparent after his parents retired as soon as they transferred to PA to help Hazel and Dev, respectively. Now we face Dev freakin Dimmadome. He's a mix of Timmy and Remy's toxic traits all in one. If anything, i think Dev should at least have a godparent who understands him, like Juandissimo for instance, but then again idk if hes retired now after he left Remy Buxaplenty for good, that is.

@@thegreeter7027 True. I would want Peri as my own fairy godparent! I am autistic and I suffer from low self esteem and I have hard time understanding jokes, or sarcasm. He sure would help me out. Da Rules should allow BOTH kids and adults with permanent disabilities to have fairies. I think as long as we don't abuse their powers, use it for illegal purposes, reveal fairies existence or try to replace them with their Anti Fairy counterparts (yeah I'm looking at you, Dev). And if one cannot get a job, wishing can be a source of income. And if I got the rule free wishing cupcake, I would use it to heal family members who passed away and they return all happy and healthy.

@javierhenriquez7927 I think Dev would've been happier with Cosmo and Wanda since they know how to fly around the rules to get what their God kid wants. A nice kid like Hazel would be perfect for Peri since she believes in following the rules and made reasonable wishes, which were big problems with Dev who wanted all his wishes granted not caring about the consequences. Even Timmy would've been a problem for Peri because Peri doesn't like to take risk unlike his parents.

I don't see the reason why some people don't like how his voice changes. It's more realistic to be honest. He had to deal with a God kid like Dev every single day then his parents tried to do his job. He also became relax being around everyone.
Cosmo probably was the same way with Timmy. He was suave like a car salesman in the beginning but then became relax with Timmy and ended becoming the Cosmo we know and love.
10 thousand years vacation? It's at least 10-20 years since Timmy's. And the way peri talks its like he took some of Timmy's personally and learned more about becoming a fairy he just now needs life experience. I really hope Timmy appears at least once in the show😢
