In this video we have explored the most famous UNESCO heritage site in India, Ajanta Caves. IT is located at a distance of 105 km from Aurangabad.
    How to reach Ajanta caves?
It is at a distance of 105 kms from Aurangabad and it takes 2.5 to 3 hours to reach here. Direct government buses ply daily from Aurangabad to Ajanta caves.
Also it is well connected to major cities.
Nashik to Ajanta Caves Distance - 265 KM
Pune to Ajanta Caves Distance - 328 KM
Mumbai to Ajanta Caves Distance - 430 KM
But if you are heading here from Mumbai, then it would take around 9-10 hours. So opting for a stay near Ajanta would be a better option.
Here are few Hotels in Ajanta for a stay:
    MTDC Ajanta Fardapur
    Hotel Royal Ajanta
    Agrawals restaurant and lodging
Nearest railway station to Ajanta caves:
Jalgaon city, about 60 kilometers from Ajanta Caves is the nearest rail head. Jalgaon Junction is well connected to important cities such as Mumbai, Agra, Bhopal, New Delhi, Gwalior, Jhansi, Goa, Varanasi, Allahabad, Bangalore, Pune among others.
    Nearest Airport to Ajanta Caves:
Aurangabad Airport is the closest airport to the Ajanta Caves which is about five and a half kilometers from the city Centre. The airport has direct flights to two important cities, New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Udaipur.
    Ajanta Caves Ticket Booking
Ajanta Caves entry ticket for Indians and tourists from SAARC and BIMSTEC countries is INR 40. However, a foreigner needs to shell out INR 600 for the Ajanta Caves ticket.
Best time to visit Ajanta Ellora caves:
June to March is the best time to visit Ajanta Ellora Caves due to pleasant weather. From June to September is the monsoon season in India and the region receives average to plenty of rain showers, which fills the landscape with lush green trees making it a beautiful site to witness.
November to February the temperature drops moderately. Summer months (March to May) can actually get very hot especially in the daytime. So, try to avoid this season if you’re planning a visit to Ajanta and Ellora caves.
Ajanta Caves Timings: 9 am to 9:30 pm IST
Ajanta Caves will remain closed on Mondays, while the Ellora Caves will remain closed on Tuesdays.
Ajanta Caves consist of 30 rock-cut caves, showcasing some of the finest paintings and sculptures ever recorded in Indian history. When exploring this archeological gemstone, don’t miss to visit Cave 1, Cave 2, Cave 4 and Cave 17. These caves are a treat to witness and are one of the most famous historical sites in India. Today the site is protected under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The paintings here depict the past lives and rebirths of the Buddha, pictorial tales from Aryasura's Jatakamala, and rock-cut sculptures of Buddhist deities.
    Who discovered Ajanta caves?
On 28 April 1819, John Smith, an officer from British India, discovered the entrance to Cave No. 10 deep within the tangled undergrowth while hunting a tiger, which led to the discovery of the showpiece Ajanta caves
There is an upper view point in Ajanta caves which offers a stunning panoramic view of Ajanta caves from the top.
It can take upto 3 hours, half day or an entire day to explore Ajanta caves depending on your interest.
    Guide for Ajanta cave:
You can get ASI-approved guides to learn more about these caves.
They charge Rs 1,370 for a group of up to five visitors; Rs 1,730 for six to 14 persons, and Rs 2,300 for a group of 15 to 40
During your trip to Aurangabad you can also visit other archaeological sites like daulatabad fort, Bibi ka Maqbara, Anwa temple, Chandikadevi Temple at Patanadevi.
