If you have to have someone's permission to track their phone, there's no way they're not going to know you're doing so. They'll just assume you're doing it all the time. Kinda defeats the whole purpose.

So why is it that the owner of the phone would never know? Is it because the phone doesn’t snitch like how iPhones do? I know you said the owner will get an email, but if the owner never checks their email, will the phone itself pop up any messages saying you’re sharing your location?
Google sends you an email letting you know who you're sharing with. They're going to know eventually.

Tried this with all my friends and family, it didn’t work at all, my iPhone & their Android couldn’t track either phone on Google Maps. I shared my location to everyone in my address book and I was unable to Track them and they were unable to track me??
Must you use data ? Or internet connectivity on the other phone that you are tracking ..or you basically need data on the phone you are using to track only ???
I have a question when you forward a cell phone to another cell phone what location is registered on the call.
Is the Google email that reminds you that you are being tracked only sent to you once when you initially give access to a person, or is it send to you every single time they click on the link to track you?

This is indeed a scary video...who is that creepy and obssessed with the location of another that they would track them in secret? One of the comments point out the need for consent. That is worth consideration. Even if it is a romantic partner, most laws say it is illegal to intercept information from a cellphone without the permission of the person who is targeted.
But this only allows the access for 24 hours. Is there anyway to have the location and do have to send it again in 24 hours
You are right! Some kid stole my phone (he said he was locked out of our apartment buulding and had to call his mom, so I let him use my cell and he ran), and I was able to track him through my daughter's cell phone. I tracked gum gor 3 hours, and got to gis house with the police on my tail for him when he finally stopped going to different places. I was shocked to get my phone back after that many hours. A d he lucked out because I canceled the police as soon as I got it back, which got him off the hook. I am VERY grateful we can track phones like this. And I now know not to just let anyone use my phone; I could have just made the call for hum had it been a real lockout.

He could have just turned the phone off. Usually police wont do anything about a stolen phone. Especially not follow you around hot on your tail.

what if we turn off the location in our mobile which is in the notification bar and didn't turn off through maps ? will it still show your location to others?

Hello. Thanks for the awesome information! I have one question, will this continue to work on overseas travel like Europe? My elderly folks are going to Italy soon and we are a Verizon family. If they ask Verizon for over seas coverage, I imagine this would work like normal. But lets say they get a Vodaphone sim card, would this still work? Or lets say they use the wifi at hotel to get google map but...since they've left hotel and are now off line, will I still see their real time location? ty

All these locators require the targeted phone to have an app downloaded on their phone first..they need to consent to putting an app on their phone..there is no stealth locating available to civilians.

The thing is if they aren’t sharing location when I share do they get my notification? And do they get informed to share location to me even when I don’t want them to know ?
I suppose the phone you are tracking has to be connected to internet(wifi or 4g)?
Their location should also have to be set on “always” coz if not, if they dont open the google maps app, you wont be able to see their live location.

Not working for me. It just gives me a link to share with the person I'm choosing to share with. After I turn on my location sharing and go to Google maps, I don't see any icons with this persons info. This person has an iPhone. NOT sure if that matters

How accurate is gmail location can it get it wrong. But only at same locations and can it say you've travelled miles every month when your at work?, and missing locations on random days

Yes,they will know...they will get notified....i have just tried it on my 2nd phone.
So when you activate location sharing in the Target phone,they apparently get an email notifications,so unless you are fast enough to get to the email too and delete the email notifications,you will get caught...be aware!
if it is "until i turn it off" will it notified for how long?

I tried this but it didn't work. I got the phone I wanted to track (H). Did everything in the video and shared the location with me. But when I went to my map, H wasn't moving. H only moved when I moved, therefore I was tracking myself!

Their phone has to have maps accessible to your location and your phones location on, if not it won't load where they are and just say offline
Yes I already used this feature a few times when I had to cycle somewhere at 4am as a volunteer and gave my sister the permission to track me during the whole day. Can also be handy if my eldery parents get lost.

i did the *#61# and found a number the the top. but when i did the ##61# it looked like it was removed. but when i did the *#61# again the number is still there..
