    I've tried for a decade to eq guitar or voice, just to find out that the multiband compressor is the best tool. I can't express my joy. Eureka!!

    Hi streaky, your videos are really helpful in giving beginner music producers/engineers confidence to do what so many other videos talk about, but never clearly explain. Thanks for actually giving us the answers to our questions rather than just abstract ideas that don't mean anything :)

    Worth spending your time on it! And nice ‘mise en abîme’ with the Eq actually equing the video. Very ‘director` . Have a nice evening. 👍

    The real challenge for most people is how to balance all the instruments together. If you put every instrument in to the mix with the same eq settings as you would when recording them as a solo instrument, you end up with a mess. That’s the real test for anyone when mixing. Mastering is no less complex, it’s just an entirely different thought process and can only really be achieved if the mixing stage has been done with any degree of care.

      @choco634 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Piggy Backing off of that, I felt like it was really great trying out gain staging for the first time. I wish I learned about it back then but it definitely helped now with not having my sounds peaking too much or clipping that I can start using EQ to enhance what I want

    What a great explanation of what I'm doing when I edit EQ! It helps me to visualize and target each frequency with the mindset of higher/lower volume of each EQ. Thank you! Would love to learn how to bring out the distinct bass guitar up front to lead the mix without muddiness like was often done in the 60's Motown sound, or how I can distinctly hear Paul McCartney's bass in songs like "Junior's Farm".

    It may sound weird, but can you do a video where you master a really mediocre mix? Or at least talk about what you do in that situation?
    Why? Because many of us are mediocre, beginner mixers and we're curious what exactly a mastering engineer could do for us.
    A mix might be as good as I can make it for my current skill level. But still not great because I am still learning.
    And I know a mastering engineer can't make a bad mix great. But what does a mastering engineer actually do in that scenario? What is my benefit of getting the help a mastering engineer and what can I expect from the result?

    To eq or not to eq that is the compression. I prefer negative eq in the low mods.. They are prevelent in most sound sources.

    another good 'un! here him , hear him! man i'm having the devil of time getting a good mix on my stand up bass in this kinda Jonathon Richmond meets Lou Reed, kids/pop tune that i've had some positive comments on! playing slap back in the choruses & so hat has quite a bit of snap , clack pop etc & playing pizz in the verses & that has more boom then 'fleet week' in Black Pool! (sry tried to make a UK jest!) K, i'll leave comedy to the professionals! I tracked it 10" from the R. F-hole, using a Neumann TLM103 into a UA Apollo w/ Neve 610-B>UA LA2A w/gentle compression into Pro tools..maybe you could give a demo on tracking, mixing acoustic instruments? thank you for your time and efforts ! cheers from Seattle

    What about harmonics? I'm interested in psychoacoustics. I read that lower the Freq higher the interval must be in order to keep everything clean and not dissonant. (And not waste DBs which end up clipping the mixbus but won't give volume) if that makes sense kwIm?
