easier said than done. chinese companies and corporations tend to be brutal, he most likely signed a lengthy contract boxing him in and forcing him to make these videos for a long time - or until his company can no longer make a profit off of him. he'd need a hell of a lawyer to help him out, and legal battles take a lot of money and a lot of time especially when contracts are involved, it will be a hard case to win. the legal system in china is also extremely difficult to reason with and i don't see them siding with the american tiktok star coming to china looking for fame unfortunately. i honestly feel really bad for him. but he did sign his life away essentially, and he's got no one to blame except himself. i honestly think that with the experience and resume he could build up, he could've made it big in the entertainment industry anyway, but i assume he didnt want to trade in his online popularity for a "simple" producer/director/videographer job just yet. a true shame. hopefully one day he'll come back and just sit down and say his truth and how it really was working in china. i'd find it really interesting to hear.

I watched Bart for years and years and love his stuff, but let's face facts: if you are basing your entire income off of youtube with no fall back position, than that's a problem. It's the same with Twitch, some people can make it, but most never will, and a lot in the middle get bitter because they think they deserve more. But the problem isn't youtube or twitch, it's assuming you will make money or continue to make money off it forever.
That line at the start sums it up: "you don't know how many youtubers are depressed.....because of youtube." You're not depressed because of youtube, you're depressed because you assumed youtube was an actual job with sustainability and it turned out it's still just youtube and not a real job.
Bart abandoned multiple channels and makes Chinese/English songs, doesn't that say it was always about the cash and not about the fans? Just read that twitter post...no longer makes anything for the US, works for the Chinese because 10 million follows...$$$$. It was always about the fame and money.

His parodies always edged too far into being hateful for me. The Key of Awesome was a lot less... vicious in how it insulted the celebrities it parodied, especially around 2013-14. Plus their production value for the actual MUSIC was much, much better in terms of impersonation, rather than being ""funny"" because it was a dude singing off-key.
He should have angled more towards merch while he had a following. Most of his viewers weren't going to bother watching his vlogs, they didn't scratch the same itch as the parodies themselves. Key of Awesome died off because it wasn't making enough and the production value dropped when Todd left. Bart Baker's shit died off because a lot of people who liked it grew out of it when they realised that pulling exaggerated faces and insulting to the point it's hateful just to be edgy aren't all that funny.

So instead of just changing his content, he just went to China? Neither of those options allowed him to make the parodies he loved.
Instead, if he put the parodies in the back burner and focused on stuff like podcasts on TH-cam and parodies on instagram, he could have solidified a new audience. He could have also made parody documentaries to mock the serious tone of TH-camr documentaries.
Despite going down in adsense, the shifts in TH-cam made other types of income sources much more accessible. He could have made some parodies or videos Patreon exclusive. With his reach and (assuming) lengthy connections, he could have directly looked for sponsorships. He could have also networked to get some mainstream media exposure like Lily Singh.
For someone who is as opportunistic and ambitious as Bart, I feel that he just gave up and latched onto anyone who would give him a 'solid' solution. I didn't care much for his content but it's sad to see ambitious and talented people eating shit like this.

Bart leaning into edgy humour for kids is frowned upon. and with the patreon thing, it would've been impossible for him to have been able to sustain such high quality content with only patreon. like I said, his content is aimed at kids, under 16s, who will very clearly not have a full understanding of money, let alone a bank account

I definitely feel Bart should have explored some of the options you mentioned before making such a drastic decision, he is so talented and with the right agent I definitely see him at least working behind the scenes within various forms of media, maybe he’s been somehow put off by his experiences with TH-cam,
Although Bart’s parodies were genius his parodies did involve going after big celebrities and he would often call them out on their morals and with some he touched on the dark side of the music industry, so a lot of his parodies did focus on exposing many celebrities in different ways, so I wonder if he angered some big shots and possibly got blacklisted, Bart was clearly frustrated with changes at TH-cam, possibly thought the regulations may become worse; I believe they will, as TH-cam seems to be putting things in place to avoid paying influencers as much as possible, do feel he’s missing his lifestyle back in America and probably will leave China depending on length of contract, working conditions will be hard there, hope he gets through this, because he doesn’t seem to be enjoying this he looks miserable ...

look its not just that youtube's algorithm backburnered his content. People outgrew his skits, just like they did Shane Dawson and everybody else from that time period. Unlike others from back then though who noticed their fanbase grew up, he didn't. Also his whole shtick was drag, making fun of celebrities and fart jokes. like, am I suppose to whip out my tiny violin for this dude?

I remember when I found his channel back in maybe 2015, I binged a bunch of his uploads and couldn’t wait for new ones to come out. But then sometime in maybe 2016 or 2017, I kind of lost interest in his new content, maybe the parodies then weren’t the same to me, or I just lost interest in the humor, but I unsubbed.
There were moments I checked on his channel out of curiosity, and at first seeing all the changes in his content concerned me but I just accepted it was his new path. The whole demonetization wave really did change creators, and Bart is a large example of it.
