  • I bought a pack of 10 of the DRV8825 stepper motor driver from Banggood and When I received them they were different from what I have paid for and what was listed on the product page.
There was no marking on any IC for all the 10 pieces! and the module stop working after a sometimes.
I have tested 2 of them and they both failed after very short time(within minutes).

I have bought some them from AliExpress (it was the shop with the most orders of this driver at the time). They worke fine for my application but i analysed them and found out that they do not deliver the adjusted current (tested with 1/4 and 1/8 microstepping mode, 0.1mOhm shunt resistor, AVREF and BVREF set to 1.0V). I measured the RMS current while stepping (1.0A) and the DC current (1.4A when not stepping and only the coil under test energized [Coil A 100%, Coil B 0% @ 0° Electical Angle]) . With 0.1mOhm shunt resistor and 1.0V AVREF and BVREF I would have expected 2.0A DC current and not 1.4A on Coil A as maximum current.
The ICs on the driver board didn't have any markings either (or maybe they are just hard to read). I believe they used counterfeit ICs and not genuine Texas Instrument DRV8825 drivers. Has anyone tested the max. current setting of the genuine DRV8825 for 1...2A ?

I have bought same at AliExpress and VREF stay always at 0,01V...

@@carloseduardobaldocchi2543 Did you apply power to the Driver? Vmot and GND have to be connected of course.
Otherwise I would say it is in fact broken.
I know genuine Pololu Drivers are more expensive but either you buy genuine Pololu DRV8825 from an official local dealer or you buy more DRV8825 than you need and have replacement if one fails.

@@ToBeDefined85 I connected the DRV8825 to my CNC Shield. I put a Jumper between "ENA/GND". And put a +12VDC at the pins 12~36V. I tried to meter the Voltage between GND and the screw of the Driver. But it always get 0,01.

@@carloseduardobaldocchi2543 CNC Shield V3 (for Arduino Uno) or CNC Shield V4 (fpr Arduino Nano).
The V4 pcb design is completely wrong.
      The V3 design is ok.
Check the conductivity of the glas fuse in the middle of the CNC Shield. Often it is broken and the Driver doesnt get the supply connected to the 12-36V screw terminal.

Did you try to adjust vref? I always by those the cheapest ones and the only reason the motor is buzzing is a messv with coils wires or not adjusted vref

Hi, I have buy the cheapest 8825 on the market from a local supplier and no one worked. The same chip with no marks. The motor coils does not energize at all. I'm pretty sure they are garbage... I have just buy Pololu 8834 from tme.eu and they worked with the same arduino code, motor, power supply etc. I wonder if I could replace the chips on the boards with OEM ones?

Lol, i have the same... i managed to run steppers like 10 minutes and than they just make noises and dont move. :D
I tought i was doing smth wrong.... no chip names. Ty! ;)

Have you tried changing the amperage via the onboard potentiometer?

Yes I did and have bought orginal parts from proper supplier and replaced them.

One of my boards failed today. It was from a cheap CNC3018. On inspection there are no markings on the chip so I think it a very cheap one. I have purchased a replacement that has the marking on the chip. I hope it works....

I think mine may have failed as I drove the spindle to hard and stalled it, the current may have exceeded the boards capability.

I just received some off Amazon with no marking either. Do you know if these are fake with no markings?

If your application is a 3D printer, then, in that case, I would highly recommend using the TMC2130.
I have been using them for a long time now and they are much better than the DRV8825 in every aspect.
If you are in the States, then buy them from Digikey

try turning them over, the labels are underneath and they are back to front to a lot of the images of them

Thats totally far away from true.
I have already removed one of them and replaced it with genuine drv8825 and the one that I remove has nothing but a metal base for heat dissipation!!
