My grandma almost fell for one of these. The caller said I was in jail in Oregon. I was in college in Hawaii at the time. Even after she talked to me on the phone she was still not sure and thought the cops might still be after me and maybe we should just pay the money.

In North carolina not only can you pull up the court calendar but you can actually call the county jail and ask if they are in custody.

The music is almost louder than the narration voice in the vid and the voice can hardly be heard.

Just called the Sheriff's Department at the county jail where he got the charges. I would start there forget everything else.

That's a good strategy IF they'll give you any info. The other problem is that multiple law enforcement departments can have jurisdiction over a single area, such as the Virginia State Police having authority all over Virginia

I got one of those calls about one of my dirtbag distant cousins. I just said "I don't give a shit" and hung up. I guess they just go down public records and find last names that match in the phone book or something, this was many years ago, or my cousin was the one doing the scam.

The "music" in the background that you are speaking over adds no value and makes it harder to understand you. Otherwise, great job, thank you.

Very nice job on this video. The concept of cash ball is a bullshit one. If a person is seen as fit to be let free, that person should be let free no matter how much money they are worth, or can attain from friends/family. On the other side a person who committed a crime should be kept in custody, if he/she is seen as someone who should not be let back into the public at that time. Again, that decision should not be based on how much money a person has, or can get. It creates a two tier justice system, in a system which claims to be blind. Then you factor in longstanding racist policies in the US, and how that has been a major in who get's arrested and held for cash bail. When the people in that situation already live in a racist system which makes it harder for them to attain money, you start to see reasons why the prison population, and arrests are much more likely with people of one skin tone, than people of a more privileged skin tone. If you had two kids, and they both got in trouble for doing something 'bad', would you as a parent think it's fair to let one out of being disciplined because that one (unlike the other one), had candy to offer you as a bribe?
