Gram-Nation does a video guide on how to spot fake Vans Old Skools by comparing them to Old Skool Replicas.
Editor's Notes:
1. If your shoes were bought from a Vans Retail Store, then they are guaranteed to be originals and not fakes.
2. Shoe sizes US 8.5 and below have 7 eyelids while size 9 and above have 8.
3. The pricing mentioned in the video is accurate because of a term called “differential pricing” (price discrimination) and is influenced by the economics of my region. Pricing brackets may vary and differ from your region.
4. Real Vans are also manufactured in China. China does have facilities that manufacture fakes and those places are no way affiliated with Vans.
5. The Replica’s in this video are fake. They are NOT produced by Vans. They are NOT a manufacturers defect, display/show model, or a shoe sampler.
6. Vans does offer many variations and customizable options when it comes to their shoes. This video is a guide and may not reflect every type Vans sneaker. It is a comparison with the Original Classic Old Skool to that of a cheap knock off.
7. Two sets of fakes were purchased from China for $24.99 CAN for the purpose of this video. The wear tests of the fakes do not hold up to that of the originals. In under a week of normal wear the soles on the fakes were deteriorating, something that does not happen to originals. Even the abuse of skateboard use did not damage the originals. These fakes do not last, nor do they remain in decent condition after wear.

The number of lace holes don't matter as the size of the shoe depends on how many holes there are
It depends also the type of old skool you are referring to in terms of lace eyelets. In all canvas old skool vans with metal eyelets ,it only have seven

I bought one from the thrift store and I’ve never seen the design anywhere else before. From the stitching, I would assume it’s original because it’s near perfect. The shoe also feels solid and heavy but I’m just curious as to whether this shoe was a vintage or really old model which was discontinued. Anyone willing to verify this for me I would be highly appreciative

My vans say HF on the sole but the factory code on the box is s2v 11/19 but I have a feeling shoes with HF on sole have s2v on the box. I am from uk so the vans are also bought in the uk, bought second hand from Depop but seller bought from asos, are these real? There is no other indication to say they aren’t other than the different factory code, and the box isn’t a lock one but one where the lid covers the box and is cut diagonally at the sides (if that makes sense but pretty sure it’s an official vans box but what uk vans come in) - am I right to think these are real?
Dude is kind of on point, but also kind of off. Vans has literally 1000's of variations. And that's including Floor Models, Direct From Retail and Show Models. Alot of these aren't even released directly to the public, they are even more exclusive then some Vans releases Exclusives. And with these, Show Models for example, they may not have the sizing tags inside the tongue, they may only have the size printed inside the tongue because they aren't meant to sell, they are meant for modeling. But these are made with the same materials. They're just about as exclusive as it gets aside from fake Gucci, Supreme, ect. customs that people print themselves. Now those, even though they may be 'real vans', they are fake knock offs that someone printed or colored themselves. Be aware, I mean vans go anywhere from 35 bucks to 1,000 bucks and up. And I'm a Van's head myself, have easily just under 100 pairs set up in Drop Front Boxes and others that I haven't worn, just collect. But yes, there are fake Vans out there, but there are so many variations, you can't rely on just a video to give you all of the 'this means it's fake' staples. And aside from that, I've ordered a slew of Vans from the Vans online store a some times you get a pair that is noticeably a bit of a manufacturer error. I just send them back and get a new one if it's in stock. But some, you can't get a new one because once their sold out, their gone. Got the all white Mickey old schools, came in with a small black mark on the back side of the right shoe. Wanted to send it back for a new one, but Vans had already sold out of my size. So, I kept them, their collectors. Some of these so called 'fakes' are just manufacturering errors. Just a little info on the topic.

According to this video my Vans aren't fake except for the fact that the box doesn't have a "flap" to "lock" the box with it. Does this mean that they are fake even though all the other things seem to be fine?

The price one isn't a good marker for identifying fakes. Plenty of skate shops, normal retailers, and popular shoe stores will discount shoes well under $50 if they normally go for $65. If you're paying more than $65 for Old Skools not counting tax, you're getting ripped off by that store.
