"Make your own pile"
Its a really interesting quote to get from Logan, because as a viewer we can understand that perspective. That said, Logan has raised them into an environment where their entire lives are centered around the company. He promised each of them the role, even when they went off and did their own things. Logan wants them all there, because he likes watching them fight for control, it validates his own narcissism and ego to see his kids fightung it out for what he made.
I will argue that I dont know how much Logan really does want them to separate from him though... when he said "make your own pile" I felt that too but then when Ken wanted out he said no and when Shiv was in politics he pulled her out with the tempting offer of being his successor. It's like how much of him can you trust? Its hard because its family, you want to still be a parent to your child but at what point is it building their competence through being close to him and what point is it nepotism?
These are great points. He’s such an interesting character. So hard to read his motives.
I agree that he would never simply let them go.
But Logan doesn't keep the kids close to him to build their competence or from any minuscule desire to be a parent. He keeps them close to toy with them and keep feeding his ego.
"He never saw anything he loved, and he didn't wanna kick it just to see if it'd still come back."
It's all a game he's set up so that he's always winning.
This is in my opinion one of the best episodes. The Tom betrayal was so well put together, it strikes a great combination of feeling great and horrible. Great, coz Tom steps up witha big and crazy move and stands up against his wife, but horrible too, coz in many ways Tom always felt like a corporate climber, and him making this move to some extent leaves a bitter taste, coz when anyone who was acting so docile, suddenly strikes, it makes all their previous actions feel inauthentic. Which to me just further proves Tom is actually a great corporate player, coz I dont think anyone saw this coming, but maybe Greg to be fair.
Such a great move. Played at the perfect moment.
The irony is that their arrogance meant they didn't see it coming. Shiv treated Tom like worse than garbage - over and over, and so did her brothers. And for some reason, none of them thought it would ever come back on them. Most people foresee some fallout from their cruelty, but Shiv, Kendall and Roman never do.
I still think this is the best episode of the entire series
Honestly, this one will be hard to top. But I’m excited for what season 4 has in store!
I have seen Succession so many times. I watch Succession like others watch Game of Throne. And to hear people like ya'll watching for the first time. It brings me joy, because I love everything about this show. I even bought the books of scripts.
You're gonna love final season. Every episode is a BANGER!! They made an incredible final season. Can't wait for you to watch it!

i think for the kids the money dont really matter and this is all about their dad's approval like shiv said in the car that what logan is doing means he dont think they cant take over also what erika said about logan grooming them with promises and making them fight eo to being at the top (the main reason logan saying they should make their own pile and not letting kendall get out is fcked up) especially when we heard about the weak dog thing in s1 that game he made between roman and kendall in their >CHILDHOOD< not to mention how good he is with words to manipulate them like when he said in 3x04 that maybe kendall is the best one of them and many other examples. being at top for them also means getting logan's love bc we know that this family is not good at expressing love (when kendall said that logan loves him but he expresses this in a wrong way like they know this but dont stop bc thats who they are) or comforting someone
it is business but the business is Logan's affection (at least for Roman) and maybe the other kids too. Like they've all been trying so hard in their own ways to earn logan's approval and if there is no business, how are they supposed to earn that approval and affection?
