This Mohanam RTP with swararagamalika in Sahana, Hindolam and Kanada (all favourites of MDR) is one of the all time best. With the eminent pakkom of Sri MChandrasekaran, one of the few handful of real violinists in circulation these days with the rest of them mere fiddlists and Umayalpuram Sri K Sivaraman one could not ask for a better combination of true talents. Sri KSG is a dear friend of mine and I miss him on stage these days. Wherever he is he is always on my Carnaticmusicrasikamind. The moment he picked up my phone he told me that the soft breadspread and pillow covers made in Sweden made with Cannannore[I don't like the spelling Kannoor too] cotton fabric I gifted him back in 1996 in New Jersey he still had them; however, for the fear of destroying the sheer beauty of them by sleeping on them he had tucked them away in his old almarah! Check out a young KSK along with the stalwarts of TNK, Chandrasekaran saar, the great KSNarayanaswami with Guruvayoor Dorai saar(who was with KSG on many US tours; his son about to be married few days before his long planned trip to USA with KSG and MChandrasekaran saar died in a car accident; he did not cancel the trip as a show of respect for a fellow artiste named KSG by not ruining the long planned 20 US city tours and hence the badly needed income from the long tour; KSG publicly thanked Dorai saar in New Jersey; uncontrollable tears rolled down his Guruvayoor cheeks; there was not a single dry eye in the 100 or so along with yours truly in the audience in Bridgewater, NJ), great Upendran[Palghat Mani Iyer sishya who died a sad early death], the lovable V Nagarajan on ganjira[the son of the great violinist Papa Venkataramaiah], ghatam and morsing unidentified(the morsing is the best I ever heard esp when he accompanied KSG!!) on TH-cam, a 1973 Bombay rare kutcheri! Check it out; it blows your mind. KSG[younger than I] is sweet, unassuming and the most gifted; no honour whatsoever just like the great violinist Chalakudi Narayanaswami saar came his way. Wife dies; he goes into seclusion. Post Covid I will meet him[may be with not too smooth bedsheets?] and wish to see his sweet persona one more time. I am proud to say I have several of his kutcheris all in the old cassette format. I listen quite frequently in the stillness of California nights in my old harman/kardon tape deck. KSG is THE BEST flute player in Carnatic music. Period. It is a very sad thing that there is very less of his concerts on public domain.
