Oh man, seeing all those old sewing patterns has me absolutely drooling. Depending on what they are, vintage patterns definitely hold value, particularly to those who do historical reconstruction. You should definitely put them all in a box together, they'd make someone's entire year!
Seeing the frog containers in that bathroom makes me cry. I had a bunch of those when I was little. My grandpa bought me one every birthday, Easter, and Christmas. I wish I could find some again.
Makes me realize my office isn't as bad as I thought. But my stuff is all boxes from my cousins house that I am "slowly" going through after he passed.
It takes years, usually. Idk how old they were but I suspect they either grew up during the depression era or their parents did. Depression era folks keep everything. That’s just how they are. Many don’t buy this much stuff though. Seems to be a combo of shopping addiction and hoarding.
Later in the series Alex said when their parients died they moved all the contense of two more houses into this house ! and he said her father was a Tailor, that accounts for all the fabric patterns and sowing machines .
Really interesting to notice the immediate difference in the sound quality in the room with the carpets gone. She would have needed the rugs and carpets in there for the piano acoustics.

I seriously hope you went thru those papers, one by one, knowing how she hid money, and valuables in strange places. Pockets of clothing, and stuff in the fridge. And inside all those shoes. lol
It's so fascinating to me how under all that chaos, there is an organization system. It is sad to think how anxious the owner of all that stuff must have felt about keeping her belongings close to her, so much so that it eventually got out of control and she basically suffocated herself with things.
you gotta make friends with a vintage sewing dealer, someone to take all the sewing materials, patterns, magazines, etc. they're all so wonderful and could turn a profit!
I follow a youtuber called Angela Clayton who buys, collects and makes garments from old sewing patterns. She is probable also in the market for vintage magazines and fabric. Drop her a line.
Vintage patterns are for sale in a multitude of places on the internet. They bring in a pile of money. Buttons by the jar are cheap in Pennsylvania. Anywhere else in the US they are very expensive. That was once a very beautiful house.
"Top pocket find" Love the Oak Island references! I would love to be able to do what you do! My problem would be having to examine Everything! It would probably take me months rather than weeks like you do!
I absolutely love your openness, willing to share what you paid for it, and how much you're making. Makes us feel like friends. Also think it's wonderful you take the extra steps to leave the house clean, like removing the carpets. Very generous of you.
That floor is gorgeous! Worried it will get scuffed in the clean out now - not sure why Alex had to take off all the layers if fbde really were five layers of carpet - you would think the last layer would be clean enough to work over the top of.
I am so amazed at the amount of shoes in that house! I can't believe how dusty that house is either. It makes me itchy and I'm not even there! I'm also amazed at how well you can open boxes and bags with just one hand! This is incredibly interesting. Hans and Evonia were terrific helpers! They got a ton done in the amount of time that they were there! Happy Holidays!
Can I move there? The states are a complete mess right now. I'd welcome becoming a Canadian. I hope for better days here by Jan 20 but so far it's just bad.
In thrift, we call the dumpsters, pallets, boxes, bags, tape etc "equipment". One kink in the chain can really throw things off but you learn to be very creative and to change gears fast. Even with a huge warehouse, you have to be able to pivot while waiting for equipment and you are very successful because your attitude is exactly what it should be, you roll with the punches and just problem solve on the fly. Brings back memories!
I know Paul told you, but don't throw away those vintage patterns, they can go for a pretty penny on ebay. Also, take it from a sewist, but any lot with buttons, threads and varied notions will fly out of there too. Vintage fabric cuts too.
this is an actually BEAUTIFUL house, those floors you unearthed are beautiful. Obviously the owner had good taste, she just didn't want to throw anything away. She must have been a fascinating lady.

@@quietone748 That, my friend, is a loaded question. In simple terms, a junk journal is a book made up of all different types of papers and material, that might otherwise have ended up in the garbage. Old ephemera is used to make pages, decorate pages, or to tuck into page pockets made in the book. The covers are made from old books, cereal boxes, cardboard, etc., then decorated. Book Pages and other papers are often coffee dyed or tea dyed. The dyeing is used to make the journals look old. Part of the fun is hunting for the papers and ephemera that are used to make the journals. Junk Journals are used as writing journals, art journals, calendars, etc. Check out “The Paper Outpost” on TH-cam and her Play Lists, they are extensive. The junk journals she makes will sell for $150 and up on Etsy and are sold out within minutes. She also makes digital kits for junk journals. Search for Junk Journals on Etsy & Google to find out more. I had to watch and study for over a year to get the hang of them.

you gotta make friends with a vintage sewing dealer, someone to take all the sewing materials, patterns, magazines, etc. they're all so wonderful and could turn a profit!
Alex could start up an adjacent shop with a vintage seamstress, from all of his vintage sewing machine, forms, materials and magazines.
I follow a youtuber called Angela Clayton who buys, collects and makes garments from old sewing patterns. She is probable also in the market for vintage magazines and fabric. Drop her a line.
There are a few TH-camrs that do buy and use vintage sewing patterns. Also people buy up group lots of sewing patters then resell them.
Vintage patterns are for sale in a multitude of places on the internet. They bring in a pile of money. Buttons by the jar are cheap in Pennsylvania. Anywhere else in the US they are very expensive.
That was once a very beautiful house.
@@Smallpotato1965 i was about to comment about Angela Clayton she sells these vintage petterns online
I hope that Melissa will be going through all the jewelry on her channel. It would be a fun video to watch.
Removal of carpet: less allergens.
Those Tiffany boxes sell very well on eBay, don't throw them away!
yeah, i am thinking some boxes might have been collected just because they are boxes with brands on them :)
It would be a good idea to check the coat pockets for stashed cash. It seems to be a preferred hiding place for older folks.
My grandmother used to hide a stash of money in the freezer. I told her she gave a new meaning to cold hard cash.
I almost cried seeing the floor revealed.
Hans wore his Curiosity Inc. shirt. That was pretty awesome of him. I am really enjoying this new adventure.👍
Hans & his companion are such great people!😘😘
"Top pocket find" Love the Oak Island references!
Yes the wood floor is beautiful!!!
Zinovia ;-)
All the clothes and shoes SOLD, great job.
Yay Hanns&Zenovia what beautiful people 😁💜💜💜
I love that you have your cast of characters helping you. They feel like friends. I subscribed to hans' channel also.
FYI, Zinovia's YT channel is her name, Zinovia McQuitty.
@@babawali3021 thank you I will subscribe to both now
@@cathifamjourney469 👍👍
Cool to know they have channels!
Love how Canadian Hans and Zenovia are - just helping out, but refuse to stop before the job is done.
Can I move there? The states are a complete mess right now. I'd welcome becoming a Canadian. I hope for better days here by Jan 20 but so far it's just bad.
@@JennyWinters Best of luck and I will cross my fingers for a smooth transition.
I have a feeling that was one heck of a deal for that much vintage clothing and shoes.
there's probably 20 grand just in the shoes under the bed
I'm sure it was a steal, check out his prices on his Etsy shop.
@@mar-keaqualls2850 Hey now! that's his cash cow community.
I know Paul told you, but don't throw away those vintage patterns, they can go for a pretty penny on ebay. Also, take it from a sewist, but any lot with buttons, threads and varied notions will fly out of there too. Vintage fabric cuts too.
I've seen so many old patterns use to wrap glass in 2nd hand stores over the past 40 years. Shame to think of it now!
You are so correct. I have a collection of vintage patterns. Some I've sewn, but most I just love to look at.
@@candicel3224 I have some patterns of dresses my mom sewed for me in the 70's saved
He has drawers full of patterns at the store that he sells so rest assured those won't go in the trash.
Melissa would look so pretty in that Vintage Floral Print, Dress! & Boots!!! 💡
I’m so excited for this series. Thanks for bringing us along, especially during this Pandemic crazy 2020.
Wow!! I hope the owners appreciate all the extra work you’re putting into this ie: tearing out the gross carpets...
Or...maybe Alex and his team will be happier working in an environment that is free of the "gross carpets." So there's, that.
@@GuyWithTheDogs agree, as I said, hope the owners appreciate it.
@@RockyRacoon123 It's highly likely that it's being done with the owner's knowledge and express permission.
this is an actually BEAUTIFUL house, those floors you unearthed are beautiful. Obviously the owner had good taste, she just didn't want to throw anything away. She must have been a fascinating lady.
Love that you're making such great progress. Selling the clothes was a godsend.
For Alex & the buyer
Alex: when you plunge the sink plug up the overflow with a wet cloth....that way the suck will work on the drain pipe and not back out the overflow.
OH WOW!!! all those vintage clothes and fabrics. Blown away.
She seemed to have started out as very organized, then things got away.
The teal Suit with Tails.
Check inside for hiden pockets.
It looks to be a "Bird Magicians Outfit" I sent off screen shots of this video to some famous magicians and they are asking if it there are tags or markings inside.
My buddy so far said its very Doug Henning but the outfits of dougs that he has seen were covered in clouds but just like this outfits design.
i suspect this woman was also a costumer of some kind. it looked hand made..(that doesn't mean poorly made, btw ;) )
I found that suit to be fascinating!
@@sherilynl4038 Agreed. I could see it was handmade. I suspect this lady was a talented seamstress.
i love all those 70's macrame' owls and wall hangings, oh my i am going nuts over this stuff!!!!
Alex, you need a go pro with a chest mount!!!
My thought exactly. 😀
I've been trying to tell him. Or just put camera on Fri pod......
I suggested this on day one you're all so so right and I'm sure Alex has one but couldn't find the chest mount last time.
He has one he just never uses it 😅
Yes please...
"If you need a physics book when you're on the commode, you need more fiber in your diet." 🤣😂🤣
Right!!!? Especially if you know that physics has 2 definitions 🤣
🤣🤣
That made me laugh out loud!
That was a Minnesota North Star hockey card you found. Check it out maybe.
I had to stop the video I was laughing so hard.
FYI, vintage liptick tubes are highly collectable. People like the tubes, some even remove the lipstick and put modern liostick in them and use them. Dita V. Loves them.
This wants to make me clean and purge and I am not a hoarder! Watching you clean and purge while I am sipping my evening glass of wine, priceless!
I love that we get these often..I'm love this series..Thx Alex
The reference to oak island was good. Lots of nice finds. My friends dad was a hoarder. Pete grew up poor very poor . After Korea he got a job at IBM worked there for 40 years. After he got divorced he started to collect things. Only new things . A friend of mine helped us clean it out. We did not want any money. They gave us his new shoes. 52 brand new sneakers, work boots, dress shoes. My size and mikes size 13 We got 26 pair each. That was 10 years ago I have three pair of dress shoes left. Thanks Pete !!
You've got a lot of valuable toilet paper in that upstairs bathroom.
15:55 Shhhh. He was hoping no one noticed.
🤣🤣🤣
We were all eyeing that pack of toilet rolls approvingly!
😂😂😂
Just thinking the same thing. Hot commodity these days!😂🧻🧻🧻
When you open those small tiffany boxes and say nothing, check for small charms.
Those 70s wall hangings are awesome! Hope those were either kept or donated!
All that paper, stamps, stamped envelopes, in the drawer... junk journalists’ dream! 💕💕💕💕🤗🦋... and old receipts, ticket stubs...
What is junk journaling?
Man I love this place! I wish. Knew more about the couple that lived there. I really wanna know their story!
I'm impressed, you're doing really well with this house.
Tiffany box may have something in the small pouch, this is where they put it, not in the foamy thing🙃🙂look once more please!
What is sad is the owner of the home couldn’t enjoy all the stuff when the house is so packed.
Alex, You always thrill me when I see how much respect and care you show these things that were once enjoyed and collected by the former owner! You are truly one of a kind, with a huge generous heart and kind soul! That’s why I enjoy your videos so much! As an older, widowed woman, who’s been a collector all my life, Ive been very careful NOT to keep this much for my kids to have to dispose of when I’m gone, but I certainly can understand how a person who is well traveled and enjoyed life, can get in this predicament! Thank you again for being the good, kind reclaimer which you are!
When plunging a sink with a vent, like this one, you need to block off the vent so the pressure of the plunger is directed down the drain. Today's tip by One Good Handyman.
also, WE don't need to SEE this Alex . it's disgusting .
I was thinking the same thing. It's like pissing into the wind. But to be fair, in the intro to his videos, he never says he is a plumber... ;-p
@@SailorAllan The whole place is a disgusting mess, actually, this is just part of it!
Lookin’ good Hans!
Started to hear “Hallelujah” music creep up from the background. A nice find must be coming up real soon.
Laura Caldwell has a Yutube channel. She collects and sells mid century and 70’s things. She has several macrame wall hangings. I never thought those things would be popular again!
Love the Recycled Life with Laura and Selena!
Yes keep that stuff or sell it. Macrame is now fashionable.
