After you put the tar down, look in the gutter. The little pebbles from the shingles tend to pile up there. You can sprinkle them on the tar and the black spots go away
Second this - but for Viasat - Satellite Internet. Lied about their internet being usable at all - an average of 0.07 Mbps upload speeds does not provide for usable internet, but it was enough for them to claim the install worked and charge me $400. They claimed speeds could be slower when busy and it is "busy" all the time because of lock down - except I signed up DURING the lock down so they KNEW it would be useless. Insult to injury that I now have to remove their trash from my new roof.
One other option that I've done in two houses so far -- if you don't want to leave those holes there (even if they're re-sealed) -- simply remove the dish and mast, and leave the saddle. This is an especially good option if the installer put a lot of sealer or adhesive on the bottom of the saddle. Less damage to the roof if you just leave it there.
Good video. I know you know this, but didn't mention it. IF you're pulling the entire assembly off altogether in one piece, it's best to fully remove the lower (downhill) screws first, then the higher (uphill) screws. It's easier to do it this way.
Nice tip! That would have never even crossed my mind. We just bought a house and I need to take the satellite down next weekend and put up a regular TV antenna.
Thank you and good question. On this house they had the wires just running up and around to the dish never punching them through the roof. Lucy enough.
Have looked at a lot of sites trying to figure out a good solution to this. I like yours idea best because it is the easiest and the cheapest, but many other sites are saying you need to replace the shingles to make a proper repair. I guess that makes sense since most caulking does not last all that long and would likely need to be rechecked every few years. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks.
Don't throw it off the roof!!! If it's an older round one, not a newer oval one., you can polish the dish and make it into a cool survival firestarter/cooker!!! Either polish it to a mirror, or stretch mylar over it and glue it down to the parabola. That method is harder than it sounds. If you know how to do chemical silvering, do that for a super crazy shine with actual silver nitrate mirror
Could i just lasso it from the ground then tie the rope to my Geo Storm then hit the gas? Then just hope it doesn't ever rain again. Seems like that would be easier that ALL THOSE STEPS that you went through....
The thing that bothers me is my dish is directly next to where the electrical lines go into the house; < 16 inches away. I may be better of paying the fee to have them remove, I'm just cheap about things that I could do on my own.
@@GMC-ut6pc you are right using tar is just the cheap way and can fail quicker or right away a DIY'er can replace shingles as well. i see this as a hack job
With my cable it was simply a matter of unscrewing the cable attached to the dish from the cables coming in from the house. They were connected by a coaxial coupler.
Nocoaxial cable is not hot EVER! trust me i know more about this than most should. When it it were on an app aka booster " witch is not" you would still be fine
So I just moved from a house I was renting and he is trying to charge me my entire deposit of 1050.00 because of the hole from the satellite. Is this legit pricing because going by this video this seems fairly simple as well as cheap material to fix it. Also he is trying to charge me for a new stove when only the door handle came off of the stove. The stove works perfect, all 4 burners as well as the oven. Lay thing he is trying to charge me for is the garbage disposal which the blade broke off. I took pictures of what it looks like after. Basically it was left with nothing but rust from the top that was left. Please help, any advice would be nice...Also if you can tell me how much the tar gun/tar cost from the video thatt would be great as well.
I need the power coming out of the satellite receiver cut completely off sensitivity issues ive call dish places spectrum, mainstream they got no awnsers anyone knows how to help?
Everything said about the dish was wrong. They should have 6 lag bolts and be sealed with a tar tape on the bottom. If a dish has only 4 bolts and is sealed with a caulk, it was remounted by a roofer who didnt know what he was doing.
I discontinued my dish network service now i'm stuck with a very large satellite dish. They want to charge me $95.00 to have it removed.I will have to do it myself. It is drilled in to the ground of my cement patio.I am worried about the holes that will be left behind. How do i repair the holes? The cement has a brownish color how do i find cement that matches the color? How to i remove such a large dish? Please help!
If you go to the home store, in the concrete area look for cement color. It comes in a little bag or you can get in a little bottle. Add the right amount and the desired color.

Smart.
Done that before
Or just use a knife along the edge and of the shingles and scrape some off into a cup... That works too!
Thank you !
Bro this is god level shit right here.
The part with the satellite on the guy's face was funny.
Thanks! Was ready to climb on the remove to remove, but hadn't considered plugging the holes. You've saved me an extra trip to the roof.
Once removed can I take it to the nearest dish retailer and place it through their window?
Mikey's Car and bike adventures I feel your pain

Do you have to return it to them
Fill holes with black roofing patch ,coat threads of lag bolts, reinstall lags and cover lag heads with roof patch.. best 👌

Yes, good idea.
Saddle?
Except when the bolts rust out and you still have a hole.
@@amandalangston1239 never seen a rusted out lag bolt on an antenna on 20+ years in the biz.

That was informative and hilarious. seriously could stop laughing had to rewatch the ending.
Thank you and good question. On this house they had the wires just running up and around to the dish never punching them through the roof. Lucy enough.
How could you just finish up the caulking like nothing happened after hitting that guy with the satellite?
Just what I’ve been looking for, thanks!
Pretty straight forward, thank you! Whenever I work with roofing tar, I use disposable latex or blue nitrile gloves.

I'd save the time and money and just re apply roof sealant every 5 years until you get a hail storm and can claim a free new roof thru insurance
Really liked the demo! Very helpful :-)
This was very helpful! Thanks handy man!
Quick and simple. Thanks!
LOL oh so very true. I haven't watch one of those in years. But sure do remember them.

Ok noted
What size ratchet wrench adapter are you using to remove the screws?

That is hilarious bro!
That was funny man...I needed a laugh.
The best way to do this is to remove the dish. Fill the holes, dip the lag bolts in roof patch, replace them and then cover with roof patch.
Thanks!! This channel's awesome.
Glad I could help out.
Hahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 so funny and informative. Make more videos bud
Thank you. Oh I have been. Doing a new one tomorrow morning.
Is it better to remove the screws completely or just leave them in and tar over them?
Great video. What did you do with the cables, just cut them and tuck them in somewhere?
Couldn't you remove the dish and put the bolts back in the holes. Then tar over or around the bolts. Seems like that would ensure no water leaks.
It was getting late and just wanted to finish up the video for you.
Great demo! Really helps me ;-)
What size socket and ratchet did you use???? WHAT SIZE MAN?!?! ALSO, do you unscrew the wires from outside our inside of the house?
direct 1/2in dish network 7/16
Nice job. Love the Northeast accent. Not flirting.
Lol thank you. Flirting is ok lol
Any info on removing the white cable that was run thru the house ?
The thing that bothers me is my dish is directly next to where the electrical lines go into the house; < 16 inches away. I may be better of paying the fee to have them remove, I'm just cheap about things that I could do on my own.
+Tyler Smith that's really close.
+askmediy is this the same with directv dishes?
Yes the same way.
How does one remove the coax cables? they are connected in a sealed box, cut they just be cut?
Were did you disconnect the cable to the dish? Did you just cut the cable? Thanks for the tip(s).
+michael morin In the one shown the cable was running up the side of the house and onto the roof. Some could be drilled through the roof.
+askmediy OK, thank you - I'll take a look at my set-up and it should be pretty evident - Thanks for the help.
Dominic thx man! Hope your friend is ok 😂🤣
Hi there I have a question what is the name of that tools ⚒️ used to remove those long bolts?
Just a socket works good.
I missed the part where you cut the wires.
Hey, it is what it is buddy!
Smart idea.
Yes of course. That was Tommy my son aka camera man.
What did he use to full up the holes in the roof? What was it called rather?
He used roofing tar but stated you could also use caulk.
Perfect!!!
Awesome, always glad to hear it
I'm A roofer and yes I've done it that way in the past but why don't you just pull the bolts replace shingles just as easy???
+Ryan McGrath Yes for sure, if you have the same shingles. I made this video for the DIY'er.
+askmediy I figured that's what you do good job
+Ryan McGrath for that also describing like
@@GMC-ut6pc you are right using tar is just the cheap way and can fail quicker or right away a DIY'er can replace shingles as well. i see this as a hack job
Can anyone tell me what I do with the cable that is still attached. Is the cable going to electrocute me if I cute it?
With my cable it was simply a matter of unscrewing the cable attached to the dish from the cables coming in from the house. They were connected by a coaxial coupler.
Jeyko Garuz it will not electrocute you
I guess I'm kinda flattered. Thanks.
Funny and educational🤣😍
Thank you
What type of screwdriver/wrench do I use to take the dish satellite out? I don't have one and would probably have to buy one from store.
I used a socket and ratchet
askmediy what size sir?
theiceman9081: Screwdrivers (flat head & Phillips) and wrenches are basic tools one should have anyway.
Yeah, but your wire is already disconnected. How do you disconnect the wire ? Don't you have to cut power and do other stuff?
Nocoaxial cable is not hot EVER! trust me i know more about this than most should. When it it were on an app aka booster " witch is not" you would still be fine

find some light brown granules and white granules. Or make your own with a hammer. Then sprinkle it on .

Thank you i will do that.I bet you get this question a lot from pissed former dish customers.
It's like watching a kung fu movie
Can I do this while it's raining out?
You can but I would wait
It's better to change out the shingles
why not leave the bracket?
First off sorry for the delay. For some reason I'm not getting emails on comments. Because it looks like poop.
What if you put the bolts back in with the sealant to fully plug the hole?
I would bet money the roof is leaking fro. That spot today
And I bet you're dead wrong.
this just happened to me. Direct tv is just dumb with this dish
May better days come.
hahahaa! Great job. Thanks.
I hate when my cawk dries out
Makes two of us.
I like potatoes
😂
Don't you have to return these dishes
No you own them
“It’s tar in a caulk gun”... words no woman has ever said.
