    I have absolutely NO problem with how/what people collect. If you want your game collection for shelf art, okay. If you want to play it everyday, that's awesome. If you want to horde all those games because it makes you feel good, then do it! There's no right or wrong with this sh!t and we have to knock gatekeepers off their high horses. I have a very modest retro game collection and I dont play these games every day. And I'm fine with that. I started collecting, again, because I was feeling nostalgia for those great days growing up in the 90s and I wanted to go back. It's all good, do what makes you happy.

      That's alot stuff Shawn! I don't have my old game systems anymore, nes and up. So I emulate my past games. It's easier to scan through your games than switching CD's or Carts and saves you a lot of space.

    Reminder: you're not getting scammed if you're the one who sets the price. RGT knew exactly what he had and settled on the price himself. Just like I knew I was basically donating my collection to a local retro game store years ago rather than getting anywhere close to it's real value, but I just wanted it gone due to life changes. Sometimes being able to get rid of a large collection at once instead of trying to piece it out for months is a better option if money doesn't matter to you.

    I hate that people are giving him shit. He’s absolutely right. Selling individual items on eBay can make you tons of money but once you have a huge collection good luck trying to sell it. They struck a fair deal and I’m sure he didn’t get full market value for it all but I’d take the $40,000 to just be done with the hassle.

    • @DS9TREK
      @DS9TREK ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Exactly. Selling stuff off is a full time job on its own. So the time Shawn has saved has to be considered with the cash $$$

    • @cjeelde
      @cjeelde ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yeah if he wanna sell each item one-by-one would be a full time job for years and then he will have no time to continue as a youtuber. I think he did the right thing. He saved YEARS, and that's a huge profit.
      Just imagine trying to sell each item one by one! Write down all items as a list, try to come up with a fair price tag, and keep track on each "customer" that wanna buy something. And make sure that the customer will transfer the money to him. And also to ship all items to all customers. Only a few people might live close enough to come and visit and pick the item at his place or outside.
      RGT did the right thing! I'm happy for him! And also happy for the buyer! And I enjoy the videos related to this deal!

      @We_silly ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@cjeelde yeah it made good content lol, people don’t understand bulk pricing concepts I guess. I’ve seen these types of hate comments on a lot of videos, saying people like him cause price hikes for games. But if you can’t afford a retro game, emulate.

      I get that you want to get that quick money to move it out, but to sell to this clown?? I would have paid the 40k or more just to not let it fall in his pocket, but to massively build up my own collection. Bc you know you have to work with flipping things to make money to buy what you want, yet he could have had a single whatnot auction and got double if not triple his price in one single night and would have known that he was helping the collector community instead of this.... an no matter how much he wants to be Mr Crabbs he will always look like Squidwards angry sister with that dusty squirrel lip.

    • @gabetinsley4540
      @gabetinsley4540 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No hate on RGT. It’s his collection to do with as he pleases. And if there is a value to a reseller, it’s taking a bulk collection of your hands.
      That said, I am not a big fan of TH-cam resellers.

    I did exactly the same thing and it was one of the most liberating experiences ever. My place was starting to look like a junk shop. The only physical media I buy now is first party Switch games so I can trade them as soon as I'm finished because they hold more value than PS5 or Xbox games. I have a laptop that I run emulation (Arcade/PS1/PS2/DC/GC/PCE/MSX) with my Series S controller and a PS5 and Series S where everything is digital. People talk a lot about physical games, but I've been through that phase and come out the other side. You think you're going to play it all, but you don't. It just takes up space. Then there's the remakes. RE4, Ikaruga Remastered, Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime have been fantastic and 4 games I've taken out of my GC emulation collection. I hope to see more. Even though I emulate, I also have 101 Arcade Archives games, 30 ACA NEOGEO games, all of the M2 Shot Triggers, Darius and Ray Force games on PS5, my 360 collection on Series S and all of the Sega Ages games on Switch with all the Live Wire Cave shmups and a whole bunch of arcade style games. I love that M2 and Hamster exist and take emulation so seriously and eliminate latency where others just don't bother.
    I love the convenience of it all. I can just start a game with a controller.

    I've been watching RGT, its a really nice guy, and he said he was selling his collection a while back, because of several reasons. Must have been a though decision, but i know several collectors who have done this, and selling is not the end of the world. Life is not just collecting, theres a lot to do, but if you want to collect just to display items, its fine, same goes for playing the games, or even if it just for fun. Whatever makes you happy its just fine.
    And as a collector pushing 39 , i understand that sometimes you have to let go, even some items you have fond memories with it. And as someone said, he's happy with this.

Listing, shipping, customer problems, etc. can be a big hassle if you don't have the time and patience for it. It looks like he has a successful TH-cam channel and things are going well for him so a deal like this makes more sense. Even if it's half the value it sounds like he's making a profit from what he paid in years past, especially pre-pandemic.

    Hi Caleb, would you ever make a follow up video to one of your main videos? meaning since you use expected profit to purchase more switch items, I thought it would be really cool for viewers if you could take all of the items from one of the videos you used to purchase more switch gear and show the follow up of what each item actually ended up selling for. Just a thought because I find myself wondering if it always ends up being what you predicted. Love your videos!

    IDK why people watch Caleb, then trash him for being a reseller. Like, have you even read the guys channel name? "Phoenix RESALE".

    Maybe the easiest way to become a super collector is to buy the whole collection from someone who has collected a lot of games. If you have big money and they are willing to sell then you can save a lot of time and energy to build a massive collection as a video game fan.

    People saying RT got scammed have clearly never had to sell a large amount of items. Selling a collection of this size piece by piece would easily take months if not years of selling, assuming every item will sell easily.

      I believe the 40K is the perceived value, he is paying around 60% of market rate so slightly over 20K.

      @@nathanlaporte3415 That's what I was thinking, probably closer to 10k. RGT taking into account travel expenses, bulk discount, and just generally being so over it.

    You guys in the states are so fortunate. Here in South Africa we didn't get like 99 % what I just saw in this video. But thanks to emulation we can also enjoy some of these amazing games.

    I got rid of the majority of my collection over the course of the last 8 years or so for the same reasons. The games are playable a million different ways now but I held on to the stuff that means something. There comes a time when you realize these hunks of plastic can mean the world to someone else instead of collecting dust on a shelf

    Not gonna lie, in the 90's ordering games directly from the publisher was the way to go. I would always get Madden before it arrived in stores b/c I filled out the card on the first SNES release and they would always send offers to buy from them.
    I stopped doing this after going to college, but a decade later in Nov. 2009 I got Dragon Age Origins CE direct from EA and it arrived on Friday before the Tuesday release.
