    Himmler is the perfect example of why when studying history you must always think critically of a piece of information. If you were unaware of his past actions, and were given extracts of his memoirs, you would assume he was not a bad guy, and was forced to do what he did. But in context you would know that he wrote his memoirs while rotting in a cell waiting to be judged, he was just trying to escape his inevitable judgement

    I have a huge compliment for you: Having a voracious appetite for world history, I find that so often it takes FOREVER for the makers of documentaries to get to the point and weave the story of whatever the subject is they are covering. You get to the point and speak at a pace that is clear and easy to listen to, but also disseminates a great deal of information in an efficient way without wasting the time of the viewers with unnecessary dramatic pauses and long gaps of information while pictures are displayed for far longer than is needed. I also love that you don’t seem to think the viewers need to have 40,000 reminders of what you’ve just spoken about , which again holds up the narrative far too long. Watching broadcast network tv documentaries can be horribly painful as they spend more time recapping what’s happened prior to the commercial break and giving previews of what’s to come after the commercial break than actually providing the narrative the viewer is there to see and learn about. You repeat what feels necessary to repeat but always keep the narrative moving without wasting the time of your viewers. A++++ on that! When I come to TH-cam to gain knowledge and perspective about some piece of history, I’m forever aggravated when it takes up huge chunks of time with fancy video transitions and ridiculously long spans of time between one solid good piece of information and the next one, so I’m always happy when a TH-cam search about something brings up a content creator like yourself who gets right to the point and keeps it all rolling along efficiently! I hope some network gives you a show of your own because it would be incredibly interesting to watch you on location actually rolling through a narrative that is compelling and not filled with manufactured drama. Let’s face it, so many pieces of history, especially during the WWII period, are already sufficiently dramatic on their own. And there are SO many conflicting reports of the facts of this period, that anyone with an interest in history is smart to go to multiple sources to get a clearer picture of what most likely occurred. That is made much easier when a video rolls along and doesn’t waste the time of the viewers. You seem to get that and this viewer is greatly appreciative of that! Bravo!

    A bit of trivia: Himmler (like Hitler) was mobile and visited the Eastern Front a few times. On one occassion he visited an Einzatsgruppen unit who were executing"partisans" and the men aware of Himmler's retoric pushed a gun into his hand and asked him to kill a few himself. Under peer pressure he shot a prisoner and then virtually collapsed. Himmler was lethal only at the other end of his secretaries typewriter or telex machine.

      I'm not so sure his suicide was a "cowardly" act.
      After all, he knew he would be subjected to countless hour's, day's and month's of interrogation... with possibly some form of torture or abuse throughout... while in-and-out of a dank solitary cell.

      Actually that is the sad part of it...... You may call him a coward but it was actually the opposite..... They wanted him alive, he beat that. He would have been tortured and he avoided that also.... It actually sucks ass that he got away with all he committed

      wrong, he did not do it for him self.he did it for something he felt was greater then him self and later felt that he made the greatness even greater.this will compel a man to do anything, because he must, because he is.
      i am not great, my cause is great, but if i sacrifice my self to it it will be greater.this is wat drives good and bad men to do evil.from Nazi, to C.I.A. torchier er to suicide bomber to Stalin.

    Nope. I've seen much worse clickbait titles, but nope. The situation was so hopeless, it mattered little what Himmler did, and it's not like he had any power to bring down HItler. Compared to Brutus's action, which actually did change history and ended the life of his dearest friend, Himmmler's overture for peace was nothing.

    WW2 is so fascinating to me. First is how the Nazis had so many well trained generals and they are perfect villians of history. They had an amazing military but Hitlers obsessions lost them the war. However they were still one of the strongest superpowers in history. Then there are the Japanese who could have also won if they had not attacked americans and if they managed to help Germany by fighting the Soviets from behind. Finally the last interacting part of WW2 to me is the U.S.S.R. The fact that Stalin was a big balls leader that STAYED in Moscow while the Germans were 20 km away and still managed to push the Germans back to Berlin. Of course he had to sacrifice 20 million Soviets but the Red Army had vast military power and had a large amount of soldiers. The fact that the U.S.S.R managed to push back probably the worlds strongest military made an amazing feat for them.

    • @genkiferal7178
      @genkiferal7178 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much of what we "know" about history is a myth or lie.
      Millions died in Russia trying to push back the Germans. Any Russian POWs were treated as traitors and so sent to the gulags after the war, so they'd rather die fighting - and, because their wives would also be sent to gulags. If they even hinted at deserting, fellow Russian soldiers shot them in the back - as Ukrainian soldiers are doing right now to untrained civilian fighters.
      War is hell and WW3 is about to start. American soldiers and some NATO soldiers are now fighting in Ukraine. That is what those leaked Pentagon papers were all about - uncovering the lies our media tells us.

      If only that was true and the human race stopped producing political madmen. Three countries that come to mind that have had their own little genocides since WWII. Cambodia, Rwanda, Yugoslavia and rather oddly Israel itself is not adverse to dishing out ruthless treatment either.
