  • My client came to me for the first time and I wasn’t aware of how much damage she had. She wants to lighten up for spring and summer but I realize that just isn’t an option at this moment. Coloring her damaged hair , We will focus more on brightening around her face, doing a root shadow to blend her grow out and hopefully cool down as much brassiness as possible.

    It's so apparent you care very deeply for your clients. You were so thoughtful about this process. I am glad your client let you film this. We see color corrections all the time, but not much in-depth about handling damage from consultation through cut, color & treatment. It's a great example to all stylists. Build the relationship! Protect your reputation.

      I appreciate that so much! I always ask my clients if they mind being on camera or more so if their face ends up in shot. I try to edit out as much as possible but sometimes I can’t. They typically don’t mind

    Tip! If you wait to add your olaplex until after you mix your lightner, it won't swell as much! Mixing it all together makes the olaplex in it swell! Love your videos ❣️

    Beautiful transformation; I love how you take into consideration the feelings of your client regarding cutting off her hair, and how you dared carefully lift though the brassiness in spite of pre-existing damage! It looks like your usual clients always come in with hair in very good condition.

    Wow you are seriously amazing.... I can't imagine being in your position and not chopping off inches... I don't understand why anyone would think that length w/extreme damage is better than short hair with minimal damage... it baffles me seeing people with super long hair that's all scraggly and frayed at the ends... like, it doesn't look good! But you are a magician!! MAGIC!! Seriously I wish I lived next door to you lol.

    I think your amazing trying to do as much as you can for your clients without damaging it further. You really do go that extra mile alot of hairdressers will be like nope hair is to damaged needs loads of repairing first . And sometimes a clients just wants someone to at least try andnits nice to see you try your best to try and make your clients as happy as you can but also with caution. I think your doing an amazing job

  • @0blivvy8

    Wow! This is so beautiful! Something that can cause breakage that we don't always think about- ponytails! If you wear them frequently it can cause breakage. I have some in the same area as hers, and that's what mine is from. Also, esp. if you have fine hair, you can get breakage at night from your hair rubbing across the pillow as you toss and turn. It can result in knots which can lead to damage. You can prevent that by getting a silk or satin pillowcase (even a cheap one; I found one for $6 at Walmart!) so your hair glides across. You can gently braid your hair to prevent tangles at night and if you have a silk or satin type scarf, that will help too. Other things to help are only combing your hair with a wide tooth comb, starting at the bottom (ends) and working your way up, because brushes can cause breakage for some hair types (like the Wet Brush did for my fine hair). Avoiding heat (blow drying, straightening, etc.) will help prevent breakage as well.

    Thank you for your videos. I have only had my license about 6 months and I'm watching all of your videos. I am currently using Shades EQ to tone, cause thats what fellow stylists(in my salon) use and I'm learning from them, however I'm liking the Paul Mitchell Demis you are educating me on. I appreciate how you pull the foils and SHOW the stages of blonde to see where you're at. I like how you talk it all out and give the game plan. You are relatable with relatable clients. Keep the videos coming and thanks again!!

    Great transformation. It was well thought out on your part. No disrespect to your client, but it was shocking to see how much damage she had. I just wonder if she is someone who changes hair color often. I see this a lot with people who want to go from dark to light, then back to light and on and on. I cringe when I see that happening. Taking great care of the hair is so very important as you know afterwards also. Anyhoo, you saved the day! You're probably one of the best if not the best with color I have seen here on TH-cam!

    Great job!! I love that you were realistic about what was better for her hair rather than just doing what she wanted, given her hair couldn't handle that. 2 questions for you - does applying root shadow make that hair harder to lighten later, as it grows out? And did she come back and continue this process to healthier hair while getting to her goal color/style at the same time? I sure hope so!

    I would have asked to give her a cut where its shorter in the back and longer in the front. Holy moly the developer whoever used was wayyyyy too high. You can do so much with lower developers I do y people do that dang. Great job! Damaged hair is so hard to work with especially when it needs to just be cut off. Very nice!

      @hairbykristijennings6648  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      D Smith yeah I talked to her about that but she said she wants to keep as much length as possible and not really take off too much cause her hair takes forever to grow..... that’s why I just snipped it. I agree, it needs to be above her shoulders to really work on being healthier, but I also want her to leave happy. It’s kind of a hard situation and I’ve had to start thinking that they live with it beyond our visit, so I need to not let it bother me that I can’t chop it to where I think it should be.

    I have a question i bleached my hair begin quar and it turned out orange red the first time i bleached it again but two times. So total 3. It was really yellowie orange and i wanted to tone it down with blackblue dye but i accidentlay waited for too long so it turned out greenish blue with blond. I was stupid to dye it black. Because i thought i messed it up. But now i have orange/slightly redish undertone. And i want to bleach my front pieces and the rest of it just dyeing it back to brown (my normal color). Ps my hair is damaged bc of heat and bleach. But have rootgrowth (sorry dont know how too call it). My question is can i bleach my hair or will it fall out or something or whats the best to do?

    Hello, I have a question.
    What would you reccomend me to do?
    I have box dyed and bleached my hair so so many times. The last time I dyed my hair was a black permanent color that I got from Sallys. Except I have extreme breakage at the moment since It's damaged and sensitive. I really want to go ash blonde. Would I have to strip the color, etc etc? How can I go about this?

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im sorry to say but I would absolutely recommend not even touching your hair. If you've dyed it so many times, then black, you will only lift orange and brassy and doubtfully never achieve the ashy blonde you want. Not to mention the damage....

    • @standingupwind
      @standingupwind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Finding a good stylist will do wonders and it is absolutely possible, but be prepared that it will take a very long time. I did my mom's hair and managed to take her from jet black to icy platinum blonde in around 6 months. Now mind you, she has been dying her hair with box colour for over 20 years, every 1.5 month, so her hair was extremely damaged. The key to blonde from box dye black is consistency. You have to stick to what your stylist says you have to do. What I did was gentle bleach, Blondme 7vol, every 5-6 weeks with olaplex treatments prior, during and after bleach, following at home treatment with olaplex until the next bleach session. Bear in mind, a lot of those in between sessions her hair was brassy, orange, red, uneven, but that is what you get with bleaching black box dye. When the colour was looking really uneven, bright orange or red I also did a gentle toner on her.
      Always before bleaching in each session I did multiple test strands on all different tones in her hair to see how much her hair can handle this time without damaging it and went ahead with the results, sometimes sectioning, bleaching and processing multiple sections differently as the test strand showed me inconsistencies. Around 4-5 months in she was in between level 8-9, without damaged hair. In the last month we did two bleaching sessions with heavier moisturising treatments in between and got her to an even level 10. Then toning, further treatments and she is now an even platinum blond. Her hair is now healthier that what it was before we started bleaching 6 months ago.
      So yes, it is possible, but it takes the right stylist who knows what they are doing, a lot of patience, determination, as well as courage to prepare that in the next few months your hair will not look the best until the end result is achieved.

      A root shadow is basically of you do a basic blonde highlight. All the way up to the scalp, then go back over, as if your doing just a color retouch, just at the root area, with like a level 8 to just soften and shadow the roots a little.
