- We discuss Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkreig, an Alternate History Mod for Hearts of Iron IV where Germany won the First World War, and as a result, changed basically everything in history. The Kaiserreich world is almost endlessly detailed and is changing every day, so we scratch the surface by highlighting the parts we find most interesting about it.
You can read the article about Ma Hongkui here: books.google.c...
I'm not like a hardcore gamer, I just play casual games, like... *Victoria 2*
AlHoresmi ArE YoU sUrE aBOuT tHAt
AlHoresmi I have played Eu4 for over 800 hours, and i still don`t understand Victoria 2. It`s the least intuitive game i have ever played.
AlHoresmi With a planned economy of course
I'm rather strange, I don't understand EU4, but I understand everything about Vic 2...
aka hardcore math simulator
To explain syndicalism, here's the summary: Communism wants workers to seize the means of productions and run businesses as well as socialize everything. Syndicalism involves labor unions running businesses and in some cases calls for all people of the same general business (engineers for example) to join the same syndicate for some extreme versions. So some anarchists support no government and have syndicates full of labor union groups of an industry run things. So syndicalism is similar to communism but not quite the same.
We that explains everything
The in-game version seems most similar to De Leonism (aka. Marxism-Syndicalism), tho they don´t ever mention him IIRC. The Commune of France is obviously a republic with a syndicalist economy, not a confederation of syndicates. It would actually be plausible that Daniel De Leon would become more prominent if the Russian Revolution failed...
Today tho, as an acquaintance put it, "if the government wanted to crack down on the De Leonist movement, all it would have to do is shut down 3-5 Discord servers". It´s a dead movement and only ever existed in the US (Socialist Labor Party of America).
syndicalisme is workers counsil or syndicads rulling everything.
department
factory
industry brance
goverment
there also democratic on leader mening there very democratic. hence you have elections in syndi states.
also explains why there called Union and Commune
Ooh.... a wild EmperorTigerStar has appeared XD!
"Communism wants workers to seize the means of productions and run businesses "... into the ground
EVERY MAN A KING!
The reason why Kaiserreich is so fleshed out is that it was actually first concieved in 2005 as a mod for HoI 2. It has been built upon and refined ever since.
cecasander really? neat
ayup
Somehow the first Paradox game I ran across was Darkest Hour in 2013 or 14. Bought it and the first mod I played was KR.
Dev of the Ma Clique here, glad to see someone else that likes the Ma Clique. I'm working on a focus tree for them so I hope you look forward to that! Both Ma Hongkui and Bufang are going to have a role there.
I'm really looking forward to it! Ma Fam for life
Beelzebub hello me! I'm thebeezkneez
never heard of ma clique, but i have head of Mongolia !
Li Zongren and Guangxi Clique is better ngl
Here from the future to say that the China update was great stuff! Keep up the good work!
The painting with all the dirigibles and the A7Vs is probably a parade after Germany’s victory over France after The Great War.
Awesome to see you guys doing this. Kaiserreich artist here, popping in to explain that the main menu artwork ('Christmas in Paris') is set during WW1, so Zeppelins make no further appearance after that. Though I will admit to frivolous use of Me262 in the art - Me262's are life.
Stay tuned as we are releasing a new World of Kaiserreich country lore video on the KR youtube channel tomorrow!
V
Do a Kaiserreich country lore on the minor countries of Siam, Abyssinia/Ethiopia, and Qing China.
I didn't even know there was a Kaiserreich youtube channel. I'll check it out. Also, Your art does a lot to enhance the mod's atmosphere. I like it a lot!
Austria-Hungary is my favorite one.
Hey SD, that will happen eventually, but there is a big China rework in the works so we won't be doing lore videos on Asia before that is finished, so I'm afraid that'll be 2019 at the earliest.
V
What Chinese state? I think that in the game, a Qing Resergence would be the coolest thing ever. A German-Qing alliance after they win ww1 would be amazing for me. (i'm a bit of a Qing fan)
The Austro-Hungarian Empire didn't "break up" as such it decentralised with all the regions becoming puppet states of Austria (although you can reunite them in several ways in the mod)
Drake But it does collapse in game
Belgium somehow pumps out 200 divisions every time
Ethan Jaeger it CAN collapse in game, but what happens in game is already let's say "out of canon".
Cheating waffle nazis amirite?
D I R E C T R U L E F R O M V I E N N A
Actually the Austrians still own all of its territory its just that they are semi-automatic puppets and not fully implemented. If you use the colored puppets mod it becomes more clear.
Wouldn't the longest living head of state from WW2 be King Micheal of Romania? He just died last year, I think.
TheThBa Yes he did.
Heinz Johann that was the king of bulgaria
TheThBa probably true
Tibet never entered the war and he was like 10 by the end of it so it was still a regency.
You mean that Sexy twink? Damn... I'm flat out straight, but looking at his HOI4 portrait makes me hard
Also, an interesting bit, is that in both the French Commune and the Union of Britain there are some events and focuses that when they are done correctly, could lead to The French Nationalists taking back France or the U.K. being restored real early on in the game. Next Part is how it happens:
So basically in the Union of Britain you basically vote on all Totalist (Maximist) policies besides the military one (I think you go Radical Socialist with that one), and go down the focus tree and get the R.E.D. focus. A couple of months later and you'll get an offer from T.E. Lawrence, he offers his services. With that, you go down the focuses for the Totalists and pick Revolution. Declare Martial Law in an Event. There will than be resistance, in which you pick "Hope they lay down their arms...". Then there is a 50/50 chance of either the Totalists wining, or the Army taking over under T.E. Lawrence. If the army wins, you'll get the "What Now?" event in which Lawrence decides what to do. Either he becomes a Totalist himself and take over, or he gives power to two other factions. Or, the best pick, "Lawrence is secretly a Monarchist and launches a counter-revolution!" In which the U.K. gets restored.
I would type the French one, but remembering how and my lazyness don't want to. You could probably find it on youtube.
26:38 is obviously a forgery and is likely why Stalin looks so handsome. Stalin was renown for having photo forgeries made. Heck it even looks hand drawn, with pencil actually.
Well in terms of the Freemasons and Liberia, it actually makes sense. The Freemasons were basically the insular little club of the American freedmen who'd come over and enslaved the native population, so going against the secret societies without moving them into the Liberian democratic system prompts either a coup from the upper class secret society (the Masons) or the lower classes (Anarcho-Syndicalist tribal councils, which is just a fucking awesome concept by the way), depending on who you choose in the event tree. You can also go rogue and create a West African empire, it's amazing.
Also the Peculiar Institution was the blind eye turned to Americo-Liberians enslaving the native Liberians, in practice if not formally.
King zog can take over Albania later in the game
Hirohito didn't last nearly as long as King Michael I of Romania. He died just last year and as far as I can tell is the longest surviving WW2 leader.
Braden Anderson i think they mean a leader who still rules
Every man a king.
Huey Long best guy
for the king fish
Every Ma a Qing
Loyalty to the Kingfish!
Every meme a king
No mention of the French government in exile in North Africa? I thought that was one of the most interesting parts!
We're going to do an episode or episodes about cold war era Africa, and we will definitely mention Kaiserreich when we're talking about Algeria and the Pied-Noirs.
Stalins mom was actually the power behind the throne the whole time. Those arent smallpox scars, those are a lasting reminder of what happens when stalin doesnt defer to mum.
“Trade that molybdenum with that nice german boy or ill get the belt, young mister!”
“Yes mama”
Im pretty sure the cover art you with the tanks is supposed to be Germany taking Paris in WW1. I love this mod and the stuff it sets up even if some of the stuff is super unlikely. Austria is one of my favorite nations to play as and forming the United States of Austria by unifying everyone then saving Germany from they syndis
It's the Legation Cities in China, as in a diplomatic legation. They're like the Shanghai International Settlement. After the Germans intervened in China the foreign concessions were put under international protection to handle foreign trade.
Douglas MacArthur can also become "Emperor of America"
So he goes beyond being the American Caesar and becomes the American Augustus.
Naxwell But he can also restore democracy. Other than that pretty much Augustus
Becoming dictator is not realy emperor. But he can stay a autocate
If you're not interested in playing a game of Kaiserreich, you can always do an observer mode playthrough where the AI plays every country (recommend also downloading the Kaiserreich Chaos AI submod for extra fun).
Great work! Keep it up!
The reason an a7v and zeplin are in one picture is because that picture is from the great war not when the game mod takes place.
Alf Landon in HoI4 vanilla has a generic USA portrait (The leader of Communist States of America - Commie USA has the same one)... On the other hand the leader of the Silver Legion of America (Dudley Pelley) has his own portrait.
Okay, as someone who next year will be a history major, and a life long history buff, how the heck do you remember all this stuff? It’s amazing and I admire you
I really like the video. I do wish you guys would have covered more of what happened up until the start of the mod. Maybe run through some of the more important things on the timeline from the wiki. I just really love the world they've made.
Not sure if this has been said. But apparently when Stalin visited his mother after taking over Russia and told her he ruled Russia now. She responded by saying "You'd have been much better off becoming a priest."
He compared himself to the Tsars.
Lol
25:20 Bit late on this but Hitler had a surprisingly low pitched voice in conversation in the recording that was made of him during his visit to Finland for Carl Mannerheim's birthday. I think it's the only recording of Hitler speaking without knowing he is being recorded so he's not putting on the voice he used for public speaking. It's also an interesting listen because it's in '42 and you get to hear him recognize how much he underestimated the Soviets and he absolutely hogs the conversation even though he is ostensibly there to celebrate Mannerheim's birthday. It's also likely that he is a little buzzed on alcohol because there are photographs that show him drinking on that day something he rarely did.
When everyone collectively Nuts in the comments over this video including me
Jake Featherston i Will fetch my butternut trousers.
Sebastian good and get the clubs too break up the Whigs
tim van rijn Freedom!
Jake Featherston yea for who?
tim van rijn For the South
prince Michael of Romania was the longest surviving ww2 head of state, he died just a couple months ago, outliving Hirohito.
damn right
Also Darkest of Days video next guys let’s spam the comment section
Metsarebuff 22 true review huh I’ll give it a watch
Hello Jake
Jake Featherston bet you’re here to tell us the truth
29:40 I’m just imagining Henry Clay using his force lightning against Andrew Jackson while screaming “UNLIMITED POWER!!!!!!”
I think you ought to do a version 2 of this with alitte bit of extra research on it. Most loading screens are flashbacks or later game propaganda. Your comments on Kerensky are hilarious give he dies almost immediately. .The republican John curtis gets Quentin Roosevelt as his running mate (and replacement) one of the things they can do before the war breaks out is pass the Civil rights act.
Also not enough coverage of the 2nd ACW. Bloody nightmare Quentin can save america Mcarthur has 2 chances to take charge and i think hes supported by congress atleast at first. Honestly America in Kaiserreich should get its own damn video. Not because im an american but because its utter hell with a million things going on at once also because America is part of the cause of the alternate history. If any kaisereich thing would work as an FPS the civil war would work given how many damn Cities there are.
Also Mussolini is actually the minister of transportation of the Italian federation. Yes his job actually IS to make the trains run on time.
Agreed.
Okay, I’m gonna be real, I was a little disappointed in this episode, I was hoping they would’ve talked about the lore from the wiki and maybe some of the events from the game
The video kind of went off the rails a little bit LOL loved it
Hearts of Iron 3. Who has time to build divisions and move corps HQ's around? Hell, that is what I love doing most in that game. It's has a realistic organization structure, unlike most games.
It also helps you plan out your strategies. You're not just tossing units around, you actually have to plan out missions for your divisions and it makes it easier to keep track of what's going on with the corps and army hqs (that you can turn over to ai control if you want).
32:44 Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but you forgot King Michael I of Romania. He died only just last year, and was instrumental in leading a coup of the Romanian government, as Soviet troops neared Romanian borders.
As far as the WW2 leader who lived the longest, TECHNICALLY that would be Queen Elizabeth II. And she could also qualify as being a veteran of WW2, serving in one of the women's auxiliary services during the war.
It irritated me no end, when President Obama and the then-President of France, publicly snubbed her and didn't offer an invitation to the D-Day Memorial observance.
New subscriber here! Awesome channel all around, I must say. I've been loving going back to binge your older videos!
Hope you're gonna tackle another HoI4 mod, "The New Order: Last Days Of Europe", in the future.
It's an alternate history setting where the Axis won WW2, and it's set in the 60s at the onset of a Cold War between the Einheitspakt (Third Reich and satellites), the Co-Prosperity Sphere and the OFN (NATO equivalent). All in all it's kind of a run-of-the-mill premise, but it explores a lot of neat scenarios.
There's a German Civil War after Hitler's death (With Speer, Goering, Bormann and Heydrich as the protagonists), Russia is in shambles and a multitude of warlords are trying to unify it, Himmler got a piece of France all for himself and the SS, and he has quite the crazy plans. Italy, Turkey and the Iberian Union are part of a collapsing alliance formed because they had to deal with the devastating effects of Atlantropa, South Africa is surrounded by Nazis and the US has to try and keep democracy alive in the OFN (There's a lot of fun possible presidencies that are explored!).
It's a very narrative driven mod, so there's LOTS of pretty well written events and storylines (and quite a lot to read) for a lot of countries and there's a LOT of interesting and fun ideas in it.
It does go in some wacky directions with some paths (Especially in Russia, there's a lot of crazy stuff happening there! If it's on ANY political spectrum, you can unify Russia with it!), and a lot of obscure historical figures make an appearance as relevant characters in this timeline. All in all it's a really fun alternate history scenario.
Again, love your channel, and I can't wait to see more from you guys!
You don't really upload that frequently but that's fine by me, I still have a lot to catch up on! :D
Cheers from Italy!
Syndicalism is a form of communism in which power/production is mostly based directly in the hands of trade unions and laborers, it was rather popular in France and the Early Soviet Union, but fell out in favor of states with a more hands on approach to communism.
When you glance at the sidebar and see that they actually made an hour long Teapot Dome video.
I am going to watch this sooo many times! Thanks, guys.
Not gonna lie, the Formosa bit had me in stitches.
It's been more than a year and the lore has been fleshed out and changed so much. China is getting a pretty large rework that's hopefully coming out within the year.
So much have changed in Hoi4 since this video.
And Alf looks like Alf and on the 25 February of 2020 there will be a Anarchism ideology added for Spain.
And the Karlists can rise up in the north in the Nasionalist/neutral fasiost teratory, where the Anarchists rise just east of the Karlists location, turning Spain in a 2-3-4 Civil War.
Also South America in the Kaiserreich timeline is really interesting. Well i donno exacly what happen but, the lore basicly is. After France and Uk collapse and became Syndicalists, the new gorvenemnt refuses pay USA to the support in the Great War. USA economy go really bad, and the reduce almost all the military spending. So no one contain the Latin Nations too go war. theevent is called The Great South America War. and aperently Argentina is the Winner, and bacame La Plata. Brazil, lost the war and is really instable politicaly and economic talk, Bolivia is in the worst situation, like near to bankrupcy, The fires of Revolution is rissing in Chile. and Colombia and Venezuela, are "good" same problems as every single nation in south america, but they are doing well. Central America is kinda united, but diveded by the Syndicalist and the Democratic. and one thing is left bewind is the fact of the Ottomman Empire is near to collapse, the awakening of the Arabe nationalism, and the Economic just made the ottomans situation go really bad ( is acutually really hard to play as the ottomans ). Is just this I want to ad, and Sorry for my bad English.
Qimodis whats the diference? They are the same.
Marcos Adrian Cravetz Adamoli ¿habla español? Creo que él está diciendo que Centroamérica es sindicalista/socialista (pero democrática también) y las Provincias Unidas son burgueses/capitalistas (pero democráticas también).
Finally!!!!!!! I saw the notification a while ago and decided to go get some snacks, cause this gonna be awesome
The Legation Cities date back to the 1900s, after the Boxer Rebellion. They were around prior to WW1.
At first I thought Kaiserreich was just a bad war story but it seems interesting when you talk about it
You guys are the best I don’t have to read the entire books
Do a video on what if the Meiji Restoration didn't happen.
"He also dropped the ball". That would be the least of my worries.
A lot has changed in Kaiserreich since then. Maybe check it out again?
There’s one event where it’s like man in the high castle the grasshopper Lise heavy where a German guy rights a book where it’s are ww2 but different
That's a fun one, I also like that Adolf Hitler writes a book, but instead of being a political manifesto Like Mein Kampf, its merely a war memoir a la Ernst Jünger's "Storm of Steel"
United Lunch I think it’s call Third Reich and they mention how the founder of the Nazi party leads Germany (I think)
Danny Medina thanks
Boy are you gonna be happy about Alf in the Man the Guns dlc
Finally, after 3 years. The game's biggest flaw is fixed!
You guys should do a second video on KR. The Second American Civil War received a HUGE update recently and all of China is about to get a major rework in the next update. Also, there is a whole lot more of content to talk about.
the best description of Kaiserreich that kinda helps describe its chaotic situation goes "In a world of monsters, any side can be the right one. That’s the genius of Kaiserreich.
Do you side with the old but steady ways or the new but volatile ones? How far do you allow yourself to fall towards radicalism to gain support? What freedoms will you sacrifice to protect yourself, and what horrors will you commit to damage others?
Authoritarianism has failed the Reichspakt, Liberalism has failed the Entente, Conservatism has failed America and Progressivism threatens to tear it all down in the name of something new even if it means the deaths of millions. Every course threatens rough seas, and none give a simple light to guide by despite what their proponents might say.
In the present day and the real world I have strong opinions about what the right way and wrong way are, but in the sort of alt-historical-grimdark world of Kaiserreich? Anything goes. It’s up to the player and the player alone which demons they side with, which banners they will raise high and which people’s blood will coat them."
I love the idea of Stalin becoming patriarch of the Orthodox Church!
Syndicalism is basically what you described: Unions. Run. Everything.
18:48 Huber Heever: president, vacuum cleaner, dam.
oh boiiiiiiiiiii finally this comes, ever since you talked about german victory in WW1 i was hoping you guys would look aty kaiserreich, and here we are, yeeeeeee boi
I saw that you've said "A7Vs aren't working in 30s or 40s". That picture is German marching into Paris in 1919 in the game lore.
Andrew Jackson was not the first president whose photo was taken. There is a portrait of John Quincy Adams. Polk was the first who was photographed while in office.
Robert Grimm
I thought Harrison and Tyler had their pictures taken in office as well.
Actually, the last leaving ruler from WW2 times was Mihai II. He died in 2017
Tsar Simeon II, the last tsar of Bulgaria is still alive
Direct rule from
Cam Medina WEIN!!!!!!!!!!
Londen?
the *SENATE*
L O N D O N
N A N J I N G
At some point I really hope they do another look at this mod, when it’s more changed to a “finished” version.
Oh right you guys mentioned TR but his youngest son can become prez which is my favorite oneYeah Quentin Roosevelt dies in like 1916 i think it was on Bastille day because he was a fighter pilot in France but in KR's timeline the US never joins
They're working on a Kaiserreich "documentary" and a TV show. Could you guys do a follow-up episode when they come out?
38:25 I'm just imagining McArthur just angrily bursting out of his grave like a zombie.
Every man a meme
You have to be the only person on the planet, who likes Vicy2 but thinks HoI4 is too complicated in comparison.
24:45 Best historical source on that is Howard Hughes on a senate hearing on the legitimacy of the Hercules procurement.
The nation of Illyria in this mod is inspired by William Shakespeare's play, "Twelfth night".
Also that area was known as the province of Illyria in Roman times.
In the real world Mohammed Alim Khan was the last male monarch to hold a title descended from Genghis Khan.
th-cam.com/video/FobrLOzk7WE/w-d-xo.html 13:00 Who can say Kaiserreich wouldn't work as a first person shooter ?
eyads99 I wish the Belgian Independence DLC wasn’t preorder exclusive though
That's pretty hilarious
god i am gonne need to buy the nodic federation DLC to arn't i
Reason behind muhammed alim khan looked boring:
He was the emir (governor or king) of bukhara (modern day uzbekistan). Later russians came in and take his lands and try to turn him to a puppet in charge of bukhara.that photo was taken after that.after that events he worked with a turkish war minister named enver pasha (who was in charge of ottomans in ww1 but after that he exiled.then he came to uzbekistan kyrgyzstan which is turkic lands to create a turkestan state.he died during fight against russian.he was killed by A machine gun fire in one of the muslim holidays.he and his men were chilling. Then the reds came and attacked their camp.he grabbed his sword mounted his horse and attacked the enemy.then ge got shot). He tried to save his country from invading russians.when russians found out this they get him from the power.
You should do a video on the book "Alternate Presidents."
This is a really good idea. We probably will do an episode about the book Alternate Presidents at some point.
Take your time, greatness can't be rushed.
I would love a General MacArthur Presidency and General Patton as Chief of Staff would be bad ass
Any plans on doing a video on Fuhrerreich, an alternate history where the Entente wins World War I done from the perspective of someone who lives in the Kaiserreich universe?
Wow, I have never known another human being who has seen or heard of darkest of days
Fun fact: Muhammed Alim Khan was the last living relative of Ghengis Khan to rule over a former part of the empire.
29:13 Actually the first president to have their picture taken was John Quincy Adams.
IIRC early recordings couldn't properly pick up bass audio which is why their voices sound high pitched
Dirigibles also had a cargo capacity over an order of magnitude above any aircraft of the time and more range.
Will you revisit this anytime soon? A lot has changed
I think about it sometimes. Doing Kaiserreich, or some other hoi4 mod. But, for one, we still have no clue how to properly play hoi4. So attempting to play it is a bit of an exasperating experience. Also, these mods keep changing all the time. I wrote up a lengthy set of notes about TNO several months ago, and the game has almost completely changed since then. Considering how long it takes to make these episodes, I'm concerned the ep willl be obsolete before it even gets posted.
Its not an impossibility, but it isn't currently a high likelihood.
@@TalkernateHistory
TNO is fascinating so here's hoping
If nothing else it does feel like Kaiserreich has figured out what it wants it's "status quo" to be
How the hell’d you go from Germany winning WW1 to “Hey Arnold”?!
Its not League of Nation's cities its Legation Cities. Referring to the Legation Quarters or "International Quarters" of a number of Chinese cities during the age of the Unequal Treaties. These were essentially areas of Chinese Cities where European laws applied. Essentially massive international embassy complexes except instead of serving a solely diplomatic function they also served as a place for American and European Merchants to stay and conduct business with Chinese Merchants while avoiding a number of Chinese import and export duties. The distinction between a city with a Legation Quarter and say Hong Kong is that the cities with the Legation Quarter, the two largest of which were Shanghai and Bejing is that the cities featuring a Legation were still at least nominally under the direct control of the Chinese Government.
Darkest of Days next!!
I am so happy that yiu twi are laughing and making jokes. It as personality to it and i love it
Just wanted to point out that in 33:27 you mentioned Simon Bolivar while showing Jose de San Martin.
Yup. I was incorrect when I said Bolivar was a mason, as far as I can tell, he wasn't. But Jose de San Martin was, so that's why I put up an image of him.
Even showing mah boi José, good video.....
I gotta thank Mike Duncan for introducing me to the Bolivar Bois. Big ups to you, fam
at 35:20, the longest living ruler was Michael I or Romania who died last december
The Carlists are monarchists as well they just support a different monarch, the name spawns from the first carlist war aiming to put Infante Carlos on the throne.
"STARK WACHSAM BEREIT" means "STRONG VIGILANT READY"
Is it common for the tangents. Like, I love it
Micheal the first (king of Romania during ww2) lived until 2017
Oh boy! A new alternate history Channel! Let's see what's up!
"...communism, but it's not called that, it's called Syndeclism"
*logs off*
32:53 and they said Clay's old-person face was Palpatinesque lol.
You guys should consider inviting guests on, I'd like to see you guys bounce ideas off of others instead of just yourselves.
DIRECT RULE FROM FORMOSA!
Has any of the viewers here ever come across an alternate history computer rpg/fps game called "Turning Point ~ Fall of Liberty" or the Irish alternate history novella "If Dev Had Lived"?
