    What I have read/heard on this from "in the know" sources, Veydra contracted a shop in China to make their cine-style lenses. After Veyrdra and the Chinese partners ran into some "disagreement," the Chinese factory stopped supplying them with the products. In came an other outfit, Meike, contracting with the same shop for the production.
    Obviously identical lenses, with the Meike variant having recieved some very minor improvements over the Veydra. You can probably get some used Veydras, but if you want new, think Meike (or Tokina, Rokinon, Samyang, Zeiss, etc).
    The test footage is great, however to truly see what the 16mm can do, it needs to go the inside a building with large open spaces, like a theater, auditorium, cathedral, church. Then we'll know.
    I am anxiously waiting for some indoor test footage of this Meike 16mm lens to see what it can do with parallel lines, like really high walls in a large room. That would be even more important with the 12m focal length variant, should that ever materialize. Yes indeed, it would be so nice if the 12mm version would in fact come out, but in this business, nothing is certain. These smaller optical companies are here one month and gone the next, like Veydra.

    Hey! thanks for review. it looks like u have used ND/polarizing filter while comparing these lenses. i might be wrong. But If so, then the comparing might be incorrect, cause ND or polarizing do affect on each lense differently in terms of shades and colors, especially if it was variable ND. 2.38. The Veydra clearly shows some barrel distortion. If you look at the brick line present under the background buildings at 2.30 it clearly shows on the jump/comparison at 2.38 between the Veydra and Meike. Although there is a slight blurring at T2.2 when compared to T2.8, you could easily use that slight, natural blur to effect.

    Hello, I did an observation related to focus markings, as soon as I got the meike 16mm and I'd like you to test it as well and tell us if it is a consistent issue. The actual infinity (beyond 5,20m) is around 2m mark. At 1,20m marking the actual focus is at 2,20m. At 0,90 it's 1,50. At 0,60 it's 0,90. At 0,45 it's 0,53. At 0,38 it's 0,44. At 0,30 it's 0,33m. After that mark the closer ones are pretty much what the marking declares. It's not a big issue considering the price of the lens, but I'd like to see if this kind of flaw is consistent in all lenses. Thanks!

    I just picked up this lens based on your recommendation. Did you try to hook the focus motor from the crane 3 to it? I tried to do that with the Lumix 12 to 35 lens. It just wouldn’t work. I’m wondering because of the larger focus rings if it was easier.

    • @liquidmocofilmsllc4915
      @liquidmocofilmsllc4915 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mesogreat If you are referring to the Panasonic Linux 12-35, manual focusing cannot be calibrated because that lens is a fly by wire focus ring. Means that the lens is made for photographers who can pull manual focus faster because the lens will reset itself to the closest subject vs a true manual lens that focus stays at the focus distance pursuant to the focus ring. I know this because I have the 12-35 with a nano wireless focus pull and it wouldn’t work. I had a 12 mm true manual Rokinon laying and swapped it out and it worked beautifully.

      Exactly Arber! Even though the Oly Pro lenses have a manual clutch, the manual focussing is not linear, which Is not so good when using the 40-150 at the longer telephoto settings because the focussing movement is tiny so it is really difficult to track fast movement and focus precisely especially if trying to use it with the 1.4 extender! It would be great if Panasonic did a firmware update to the GH5 to give us linear focussing over native lenses. This should be a must have on the GH6. It would be great if Meike would make a cine zoom in the future! I hope all is well with you! 🙏🏾

  • @osric70

    It's my understanding that the Meike is a total rip of the Veydra with sourcing of parts from the same suppliers. Veydra has done themselves no favors by going dark, after an unfortunate theft of their operation, on an estimated time to for return to market, so Meike is seizing the opportunity. I saw on Amazon where Ryan, the guy who owns Veydra & designed the lenses, is suggesting intellectual property theft.

      Troy Moss Yeah, weird how the cost of something goes down when you don’t have to hire any product engineers, lens designers, a marketing team, and all the million and one things that go into the R&D. If Veydra was your company and someone stole all of your a intellectual property (somehow even breaking ties with your supplier, for instance) I doubt you’d be so ”stoked” about a competitor selling your product at 1/4th the cost. Veydra lenses were considered by most, even Roger Cicala at LensRentals, to be incredibly impressive optics for their price. Look at any of their competitors-they’re all 3X the price and higher.
      This “Hey, y’all! It’s cheaper over at the Wallymart!” attitude with no concern given to the smaller companies that actually *make* the products is part of the main short-sighted drivers of the caustic populism we around the world today.
      Buy cheap now, pay for it with your job later. If you don’t see the connection (real or hypothetical) then you’re probably like the average consumer who is willing to lie to themself to benefit in the short term.

    • @ntouched
      @ntouched 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dasaauto2024 sorry, but I disagree. As it's not rocket science. I too developed and sold products here in the USA, that we're manufactured in China. Some of those products were then recreated with minor changes by other companies in China. I continued to sell my products anyway, even with what some would say was unfair competition. Why? Because I didn't have unrealistic mark ups!!! Meike created a lens, a few minor changes and is now successfully selling that lens. THE END!!!! By the way, you only need to make small percentage changes to a product to avoid patent violations. Thought I needed to reply since I HAVE EXPERTISE in this field. @@no15minutecities your comment is rubbish and it doesn't change the fact that Veydra is brighter than Meike in this test. Of course it is. you can clearly see it when comparing the general brightness of the image, the branches in the foreground and of course histograms. postimg.cc/XpdTfPnb So perhaps think next time before you write a shitty one-word comment.
