You couldn't break through the roof of Hell in a Cell? Not even once? What moves were you using? I can 'guaran-damn-tee' you that the center of the cell roof is destructible. The positioning requirements might have been a bit selective at times, but it DOES work.
Also, you can throw people off the top of the cell with certain moves like release power bombs, suplexes and throws. When you do it right, it looks awesome. I would do the Tazplex, and send my foes to the floor. Yeah, I don't know how he could not throw someone through the cell roof. It's fairly simple to pull it off with a big power move.
Definitely, I only had the first when I was younger, and now I’ve played them both the second one is so much better in every way. So many more moves, characters, not to mention as a blind player the audio is so much clearer
This game is far better than the original in graphical improvements, larger wrestler rosters, more ppv and backstage environments and more match types(TLC,Caskets, slobberknocker, etc). The tv-style camera is available in tag-team mode along with tag team specific moves. You can defend or challenge wrestlers for championships in exhibiton mode and it actually shows the champion with the title and the name of the TV/PPV event their competing in.However the feminine-like walk of the male wrestlers during intros is a bit strange.
+BckDrBOYES Me too! I used to go into the rankings/belt history mode and let the game set for an hour or two just to hear that awesome music! The rest of the in-game music is great too. I'd say SmackDown! 2 has the best music and sound effects out of the other SmackDown! games.
If there's one thing I'd like 2K Sports to elaborate on, it's the backstage areas. In this game, you could wrestle in a kitchen, shower room, office suites, parking lot and the WWE New York spot. My cousins and I had so much fun playing in those areas with our favorite wrestlers. Thankfully, 2K14 brought back the Slobber Knocker mode which is something I also enjoyed playing in this game.
Except for the horrible load times. Also, they should have slowed down the game-play for the new match types. It's not satisfying putting someone through the cell, only to have them instantly get up.
Back in those days, I was a huge Playstation fanatic; so while I may have missed out on No Mercy (simply because I didn't have a N64), Smackdown 2: Know Your Role was the best WWF experience the Playstation had to offer. Easily one of the best Smackdown games in the series, in addition to being one of the best wrestling games and Playstation games I've ever played. This game was such a massive improvement over the original Smackdown- and that's saying something because the original was such a fantastic game that I thoroughly enjoyed. A larger roster, more match types, more backstage areas to fight/explore, more unlockables in season mode (and this was the one game that FORCED me to get a memory card after years of going without lol). Granted, the season mode was quite lengthy (especially when you're trying to simulate the matches) and the hell in a cell match could've been better- but the enjoyment and the memories of spending hours and hours on this game, whether I was playing with my friends, brothers or even solo- easily trumps those little nag nags on my part. Smackdown 2, to me, is an excellent game. So glad I picked this up years later (after giving my original copy away years prior)- I'm keeping this one with me for years! =)
This game wasn’t designed to be “realistic” It was designed to be “FUN!!!” I think this was pretty good for a PS1 game that came out almost 20 years ago! 👍
you can slam them through the middle of the hell in a cell. there are other videos of people doing it, and it was my main reason for getting the game as a kid. pedigree through the hell in a cell was my favorite move.
True but I like to think it was trying to match the aethestic of SmackDown at the time which I think they nailed but still not really appealing it would smh work with Smackdown shut your mouth and future titles but Shut Your Mouth and SvR 2004 is my favorite menu wise
The music was the best part about this game. Very early 2000's japanese. Also, you should know that they couldnt get passed copyright issues with the Undertakers entrance music.
This game was great in almost all aspects - large roster, decent story mode, fast paced action, deep character creation mode with fully customizable moves/taunts, VERY fun matches and modes. It felt like an arcade beat em up at times, and I liked that.
There actually is a way to break the top of the cell You just have to be very specific with it and it will break eventually I got it to break at least 3 times.
Basically my first game that I played for HOURS and for years even while the PS2 came out with the newer games. I swear I have 70+ years in career mode. Yeah, , I skipped to get to my created superstar. The loading screen and load times were a pain along with the entrances. The amount you could create was lackluster. I loved that they added parts of superstars from the previous game. I downloaded so many formulas to create some to make the roster more current. The thing about The Undertakers music is they didn't get the rights to it in time to be included in the game.
As far as the menu music, I get what they were doing considering it was the new melinnium futurustic 2000s look so i didnt have a complaint with it. Granted i was 9 years when the game came out
My friends and I played this like crazy because it had 2 to 4 multiplayer season mode (I don't think you mentioned it) and I think even "create a faction or team". So obviously, we all played with our created characters, hoping to move in the rankings (I think it had that) and get "booked" for the show lol.
Even the menu sound brought back amazing memories. I spent many hours on this game when I was 15/16 with my created character (a Matt Hardy rip off who for some reason I can't recall, I called Steve Spanner) missing out on my education. Good times.
Yep. The way it broke and the character stayed shortly on it and then rolled off. I was like "wtf it was programmed so we'll back then" now they just clip apart when the table breaks
Although this was the second Smackdown video game in the series, this was the first one I played. I got it for Christmas on the original Playstation back in 2000 and spent many hours playing it. It had pretty much every wrestler that was on the WWF roster at that time and you had the debuts of Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Tazz, Eddie Guerrero, Perry Saturn, Trish Stratus, Essa Rios, Rikishi and Too Cool and The Undertaker (as the American Badass instead of The Deadman).
This game is betta than 2k16???? I thought the game is fine, mainly because of the return of Custom Soundtrack option (Last-gen only) and the Hall of Fame Showcase was entertaining.

I believe I'm being completely reasonable given the time of the game's release. I try not to hate on games, I just calls em how I see's em, and not everybody is going to agree. As far as this being the "best wrestling games with a greate graphic", well, I just don't agree. I had a lot more fun playing No Mercy on the N64. You gotta remember, I'm not judging these games to today's standards, or most of them would be "hate" filled reviews. I try my hardest to jump back into the year of the game's release, and relive the first time I played the game. I think most of my viewers understand that by now.
***** Well No Mercy was maybe the overall better wrestling game.. but cmon the graphic is not better as the SmackDown games.. the bodys in No Mercy look redicules.
If I came on and just said "it's a perfect game, no flaws, greatest game ever", well then I might as well not even bother having a review show. I pointed out the good, and the bad things equally.
***** I'm confused... Why are you acting like I said something bad about the graphics? Watch the video again, I mentioned how the graphics did not change from the first Smackdown, but that was not a bad thing, as they looked good.
***** I just said SmackDown2 was proberly the best wrestling game at this time and had the best graphic for a wrestling game... and wen I watch ur No Mercy review.. you hate way more on SmackDown than on No Mercy, u even say the graphic is great (No Mercy) but the graphic is way to comic style... well for me, I had alot of fun with SmakDown 2 and I think it was the best wrestling game before NextGen (PS2) came out.
Lmao omg i remember coming home from school and finding this on my kitchen counter my father bought it for me i was so geeked loved wwf at the time played it non stop thought it was so real and at the time thought the entrances were super cool cuz of the videos
The gameplay was almost identical to SD1, but the season mode is still one of the most fun ever! I think it could last up to 99 years, I only went like 20 something years deep and still kept getting new cut scenes and storylines every few weeks!
My favorite part of SmackDown! 2 was doing Fatal 4 Way matches and going backstage. Although, that story mode can go fuck itself with a drill-bit, as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah this game has ups & downs. 3 things to me stand out about it to me. The hardcore time limit match was awesome & I miss that match type! They entered with the championship belts (not doing their original way of entering, but still they were carrying it out) the 1st 2 BIG PLUS'! The 3rd & really crappy part about season mode (other than all the loading) IT TAKES FOREVER for season mode to have a heavyweight championship match! HIAC actually yes you can put them through the roof. You just have to slam them perfectly through, & yes it is very hard to do unless you're the undertaker, triple h, & maybe the rock doing the rock bottom. X-pac's X-Factor might do the trick
I remember playing this game over the summer of 2010, I played WWF Attitude for PS1 and I bought a copy of Smackdown 2 Know Your Role at a flea market and oh boy, did I play the crap out of this game
Cool I was playing this game just a few days ago,. I like how you kept the review in context of when the game was released and I especially liked the fact you mentioned how there was more backstage and breakables ,- I remembered when it was released and how true that was then and still is today - People enjoy backstage antics
I think you are a bit anti-smackdown, pro No Mercy which is fair. But I thought this was a great update to the first game, it was brilliant. Many weeks of my childhood on this! You seem a bit nit picky with Smackdown, I prefered it to No Mercy.
I don't know why I don't remember the loading screens being that long for Royal Rumble, that was the best match type to play with people because it was so fast paced!
Comparing all wrestling games i had played, this one is the perfec equilibrium between a arcade fight for casuals and grapple-timing focused for wrestling-core fans. I love the paced game that you can win in 3minutes and fast aerials moves and the detailed move sets but also quite simple and easy to get into it. You have to know the formula to do a pin and dont get a too loong matches, today i like that style not based on health/damage meters also overalls ratings or weights restrictions, yes is unrealistic but more fun.
This is 6 years later but you can break the center piece of the Cell roof, you just need to do a lot of moves on it which is a good thing, I guess, since it isn't predictable as later games where you need to do 2 simple moves on that part of the roof
When I was younger, it felt like there were two main camps of wrestling gamers: those who loved the arcade style of Smackdown, and those who loved the simulation style of the AKI games. I was the latter. Smackdown for me was just a great rental; I had my fun with it, but it always felt shallow.
@@al112v4 but it's not. The slowed down simulation style ruins it. I always preferred the faster arcade-y style of the early SmackDown games. Plus the create a wrestler in SmackDown 2 on forward was way better than WM2K and NM.
ComaAlpha Because Wrestling sim for the most part has been done wrong. Arcade is always the way to go and people prefer that way, just look at the current trash games, they’re awful. If only they did something closer to this or HCTP, but nope, it’s garbage.
0:58 Dude, That background is there to fit on the theme of WWF SmackDown! 1999 - 2001 Aesthetic, so it makes sense for them to have that. And yeah while you're right about the Menu Music but that's no big deal for me. The Menu isn't even that bad at all, it's easy to navigate and it's just fine. I'm not surprised because this is coming from the same guy crapping on WWF Royal Rumble for the dreamcast which is an ARCADE GAME complaining for lack of modes.
Me too! After I've played the game for a while and need to take a break. I'll go to one of the selections in the menu and leave it there for a while, just to hear the music!
Yes, you are correct. This happened in a few WWF/WWE games with certain themes. Most recently with 2K14. They have early ABA Taker, but he comes out to the Deadman INC Taker music, which he used much later. Still, as often as it happens, it never feels quite right!
***** Great reviews as always, but you can actually slam your opponent through the top of the cell. Your superstar and opponent have to be in the centre of the cell. You grapple your opponent and you go through.
i can see the problems with this game now, but when i was a kid i swear it was a perfect game.
***** mine would be no mercy, but I completely understand.
eric gaza indeed
Agon Leed I was around 10 years old when I first played that game & you right it's fucking dope, it was my first wrestling game experience.

Stuart Gibson Besides Royal Rumble mode.

I just said SmackDown2 was proberly the best wrestling game at this time and had the best graphic for a wrestling game... and wen I watch ur No Mercy review.. you hate way more on SmackDown than on No Mercy, u even say the graphic is great (No Mercy) but the graphic is way to comic style... well for me, I had alot of fun with SmakDown 2 and I think it was the best wrestling game before NextGen (PS2) came out.
You can break the middle top panel In The Hell In The Cell , I've done it and still do it a lot to this day
Lmao omg i remember coming home from school and finding this on my kitchen counter my father bought it for me i was so geeked loved wwf at the time played it non stop thought it was so real and at the time thought the entrances were super cool cuz of the videos
It's such an abysmal and broken mess. It got to the point where I just simulated every single match while roaming around on the Internet.
Dude you can totally go through the cell!!!
Having 8 guys in the rumble is what I remember about this game.
That’s Just Bring It!
I remember playing this game over the summer of 2010, I played WWF Attitude for PS1 and I bought a copy of Smackdown 2 Know Your Role at a flea market and oh boy, did I play the crap out of this game
same here, I wore my thumbs out
Who came here after his revisiting video?
😬
i prefer this game to many ps4 games of today including all wrestling games
this was a Classic!
I still play it on my phone as an emulator
Cool I was playing this game just a few days ago,. I like how you kept the review in context of when the game was released and I especially liked the fact you mentioned how there was more backstage and breakables ,- I remembered when it was released and how true that was then and still is today - People enjoy backstage antics
smackdown 2 one of the best wrestling game.
Best wrestling game ever. Nothing else has come close since.
I think you are a bit anti-smackdown, pro No Mercy which is fair. But I thought this was a great update to the first game, it was brilliant. Many weeks of my childhood on this! You seem a bit nit picky with Smackdown, I prefered it to No Mercy.
Lmao swingin around couches and coffin still funny
There was one of wwe ps1 (I don't remember which one)... which you were able to launch your oponent from the building... that was so fun
No mention of time limit title?, unless i got the wrong game?. But that was such a good game mode to play with my friends
Put Some "Respek'" On SmackDown!
What do you mean ??¿
This game was fun as hell because of its lack of realism tbh. I loved every second of it
That middle piece was destructible.
Bro, this review gave ZERO justice to this game, ZILCH man. They completely changed the game, man. The fighting engine was simply kept.
this is the first and only wrestling game I ever bought for the ps1 so it holds a special place in my heart
THQ picked up from Thunder in the entrance department!!! Thunder had titantron entrances, SD! games had the wrestlers animations added to it
The only create a wrestler overused was WrestleMania 2000 that is the one and only I have never ever used it currently
Wow this is the most biased WWF Smackdown 2 review i ever saw. I had both No Mercy and this game. This was way better.
ultragarrison Don't act like it's biased just because he didn't like the game as much as you did.
@@OakL-ls3hq no, this was a biased review.
Sorry, but NM is considered the best WWF/E game of all time.
I was in love with this game
U have returned! great review
Thank you so much!
😂
I actually love the menu music.
Me too! After I've played the game for a while and need to take a break. I'll go to one of the selections in the menu and leave it there for a while, just to hear the music!
Nikateen, The American badd ass undertaker entrance music didn't make the the due to copyright issues?
Yes, you are correct. This happened in a few WWF/WWE games with certain themes. Most recently with 2K14. They have early ABA Taker, but he comes out to the Deadman INC Taker music, which he used much later. Still, as often as it happens, it never feels quite right!
***** Great reviews as always, but you can actually slam your opponent through the top of the cell. Your superstar and opponent have to be in the centre of the cell. You grapple your opponent and you go through.
