The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I went to several dance halls in Texas that his brother PeeWee performed at. And even went to Doug’s wedding at the Astrodome in Houston Texas.

Love Doug Kershaw…… but not the lip synching. This and many other performances shoot big holes in the perpetuated myth than Sullivan demanded “live” performances…..
It is no a myth. Up until the Door's performance, Sullivan demanded acts to perform live on the show, or at least for the vocals to be live. After that, the things changed and lipsync became the norm.
@@dout0rm942 Sorry, but the Mammas and the Papas’ performances were notorious for their lip-synching - and those preceded The Doors performance in 1967. And the infamous Dave Clark Five tape failure in 1965 also shoots holes in the “must-be-live” myth - and it’s available on TH-cam.
@@johnhourigan6049 Dave Clark specifically requested not to play live, as he always did, and all the M & the P's performances prior to 1967 were not lipsync. Their vocals on their performances of Creeque Alley and Words of Love, for example, were completely live. They are completely different to the record. Dedicated to the One I Love, too.
@@dout0rm942 Then both of those instances are two of many examples that shatter the myth of bands always playing “live” on Sullivan. Cass Elliot even quipped “cue the tape” before one of their Sullivan performances.

This channel avoids the good performances of the show and it is to much stand ups comedy, why they don't include more rock and roll and bands that are classics because the show.
