She walked towards it, the walls looming overhead, until she stood at their base. A single huge split in the monolith created a long cavern, lit from within by an uncanny glow.
Big Sand is an animated science fiction virtual band, set on a beautiful but harsh desert planet. It's the brainchild of musician and creative technologist Sally Coleman, who brings the band to life on social media and live on stage using Unreal Engine and motion capture.
Someday is the band's third single - a soulful, quirky disco track co-written with electronic icons ‪@OfficialSAFIA‬ and featuring ‪@sayahmusic‬. SAYAH has become an Australian live music icon, performing with the likes of Peking Duk, Cosmo’s Midnight, KLP and Set Mo, as well as recording her own music including the wonderfully catchy pop song Fruit.
"This track started with a story. I wanted to write about a forbidden, haunted canyon (as you do!) and reached out to Ben & Michael from SAFIA on the long shot that they would be interested in cowriting. They loved the sci-fi concept, we got in the studio in Canberra, and the rest went from there! Bringing in SAYAH’s voice was the icing on top.” - Sally.
Someday once again takes us into the world of Big Sand's lead singer Taal, this time as she is warned away from entering a mysterious canyon. Her giant insectoid bandmates, Priak and Kfffft, warn her about ‘The Rend’: “Desert devil’s gonna snatch your soul... I heard nobody makes it out quite whole...“. But Taal complains that she’s only ever allowed to adventure ‘someday’, never ‘today’.
You’re not the first to have been compelled towards it. Not the first, nor the last,’ Priak said.
‘Why did you keep it a secret?’ Taal asked. ‘You can trust me.’
‘Because I knew, as soon you as you found out, you’d want to go. You’d never stop fixating on it. It’s part of your nature. And it’s dangerous.’

I was in the car for like 5 mins today but just so happened to catch triple j talking about this and it’s so cool. At first I didn’t know what “creepy ABBA” would sound like but you can totally get it the more the song goes on. Can’t wait for the music video.
