Andrew, you should report your landlord to the Health Department in your city. Else she'll rent it out to someone else and ruin their life too. You don't really know what type of long term health consequences there may be. The City will not take a situation where mold is cited lightly. I'm sure a lawyer should chime in, but gladly you guys didn't sign that release.
Andrew: Lawyer up. No question. You can't lose. You have a case. I was in the other shoes as a landlord and I got my ass handed to me despite my property management company being at fault.
Grew up with mold in my childhood home didn't understand back then all the eczima and health issue we had for years. Then when I moved out on my own all my health issues cleared up and later on my own I did research and dicovered mold can lead to similar like health issues. They sent me pics on how much worse the mold growth had become and I told them how bad it was to live around that... They moved out of that old home. We're all better now but can't help but think how much 20+ years of mold exposure poisoned us and led to a lot of brain fog and allergic reactions, easier way to be suspetible to getting sick.
I was a mold inspector for 5 years. In Indiana they’ve got to disclose if they have mold. Take all the details to a lawyer and see what they suggest. Your gf has suffered for years and they tried to cover it up. They probably haven’t removed the mold/addressed the causes. Disgusting landlords.
Brother… this exact same thing happened to me and my wife. It’s actually how I met my wife in the Mold Doctors office, cuz we were both Moldy. My wife was in the exact same situation with her land lord… she successfully sued them and got a bunch of $$$. To cover all her medical expenses, and the money back on the rent she had to pay while not living there because of mold. I now know way too much about Mold… if you need any insight on this situation HMU!
I love that you’re always breaking the mold with variety of your videos. Joke aside, that sucks, I live in an old place that has leaked from under the skirting (between the walls and the floor!) and it sometimes smells musty around my bed.. when that happens - I have to scrub the walls and headboard using a bunch of different cleaners to get the smell away. Not fun. And I leave my windows open constantly. The landlords here don’t do sht either.
Ah dude… Became chronically ill, extreme fatigue, chronic sinus issues, memory loss and brain fog like you wouldn’t believe. I could barely get out of bed. Spent years that way only to find out that there was a bad leak in the walls in my bedroom from the upstairs bath. Mold is no joke. Shoemaker protocol is the way to go for mold detox.
mold allergies are unfortunately a big part of my life. i rented an ancient, musty house once and immediately had symptoms. lasted 1 week there of the year lease. almost every place i've lived in the many years since has made me sick. sinus, aches, asthma. it's driven me to live outside at times. i stopped signing leases out of fear i'll react. been renting more casual month to month places, but like any old house i got ill. i've removed carpet, ran air purifiers, kept windows open, nothing helps when the place makes you sick. housing is my enemy apparently, when i get the strength to leave my current place i will never give any rental the benefit of the doubt again, unless it was just built. congrats on finding the new place
I have similar sensitivities dealing with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). I’ve lived through very similar experiences with renting out places then reacting so now I’m very careful about committing to anything. When it’s not winter I try to live outside. It changes your life completely.
Bro you have a case to sue, and I would if I were Carly. They caused her to have to have a surgery! Mold is no joke, and you'll regret not doing so likely.
Hey man. Been subscribed for 10-12 years. You did the right thing absolutely! I had a similar situation. Moved into an apartment and got extremely sick. I did the pertri dish testing and that was enough for me. Got out of there and felt much better. Now I own a home in Boise (high desert) and before moving in, I used a HERTSMI test from a company called Mycometrics. Its about $150 and they test the levels of harmful mold in the dust of the home. I have found the test to be very accurate to how I feel in the different houses I have lived at over the years. You can also take cholystyramine, activated charcoal, zeolite, etc to bind mold inside your body and pull it out. Some doctors prescribe anti fungals and antibacterial/ antifungal nasal spray. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
Saying mold in a leasing office is like saying bomb on an airplane. I did drywall for a company and repaired a closet after a pipe leak. I found black mold under the paper on the gypsum board (sheetrock) and reported it. The apt manager and leasing agent acted shady immediately and said I'm not a mold expert and don't know what I'm talking about. I told them I researched it and found that black mold can grow as soon as 48 hours after gypsum board gets saturated (the unit wasn't dehumidified until after the weekend) after I said that you could hear a pen drop it got so silent. I then told the owner of the company and he told me to just patch the area I opened up and that's it. I knew there was way more and felt guilty for leaving it like that. Black mold grows in warm climate on wet sheetrock and doesn't die unless you bleach it. Since then I've done about 2 years worth of sheetrock work in residential spaces and I'd say about 30-40% of the time I see at least some trace of it. I say sue her 100%
I think I'm currently living in a moldy apartment. My sinuses are terrible whenever I'm inside for a prolonged period of time and clear up when I leave for a prolonged period of time. I smell a musty smell when the AC is on, but now that its cold we dont smell it with the heat. We asked our landlord to have a mold guy come out but they won't even do that. I'm gonna have a mold guy come out and do some testing thanks to your video. I'm also gonna contact my renters insurance! I also do have polyps, and it absolutely sucks! How did your girlfriend deal with the recovery from that surgery ?
I work in property management, if they don’t actually take the mold out then you can sue. In AZ, we have to work on it right away. Oftentimes, we have to have a restoration company come out if its too big. This sounds like a lot of mold. Lawyer up dude, this is coming from someone who deals with this from the other side.
The best advice you can get here is to speak to a few attorneys that specialize in this area. If they feel you have a strong case they will take it on a contingency basis. That way you have nothing to lose, except around 30% of the settlement. They don’t want this getting out, chances are it’s in more than one apartment so chances of a settlement are very good. Personally, I wouldn’t say anymore about it until you speak to an attorney and I guarantee you they will tell you the same thing.

Andrew: I Know you probably wont see this, but I am a contractor (and former Apartment Property Manager) and a big LAHWF fan. Mold is no joke, but it takes an experienced person to detect it when moving to new apartment. Your landlord might be good as masking it and hiding the mold, they don't care about your health, they care about moneyss
You should be able to get all your rent money back for the entire 2.5 years, plus the medical expenses and any other expenses that you incurred related to Carly's health issues. Basically, landlords are legally responsible for the property being "habitable" when they rent it out, and if it's not habitable then you're entitled to your rent back (or a portion of it depending on how "unhabitable" it was). I feel like having mould means it's completely unhabitable. Also the landlord's behaviour regarding not sharing the mould report and whatnot sounds very unethical and might be illegal in other ways and they shouldn't get away with that - otherwise they will rent it out again and do the same shit to other people. My apartment in California had bed bugs when we moved in and we eventually got our rent partially refunded for the period before they came and fixed it - this is what I'm basing the above information off of and it was a few years ago so not everything I said might be totally accurate.
Fuck bro grew up in a moldy house. Was having sinus problems my whole life, suffering thinking I was cursed and shit. Tried so many things to heal my self in end after I moved out it alk changed. Mild is fucked up. Pretty sure I didn't even grow up properly because the body was constant trying too heal instead of growing
God bless you for being wise enough not to sign it; theyre thrying to legally protect themselves from.being sued; its a common tactic from employers when they let someone go too, you have to sign paperwork to get your severance pay but the paperwork legally protects the employer
Andrew please listen to me. You need to hire a lawyer and go after their asses. I used to be in a department adjacent to claims of this sort and you 100% have a case. Depending how well you play it up you can peal at least $100,000.00 from them. DON"T SIGN ANYTHING
A payout like that is likely never going to happen. He might get a small payout just so he signs a form waiving his right to sue again, but unless there is proof of significant health damage, there isn't much he can do besides move. They would need documented health records of them going to the doctor for things related to mold exposure. Throwing thousands and thousands of dollars in lawyer fees at it with no promise of a win, is a big gamble.
Mold toxicity is fucking HORRIBLE. I know people who are human Petri dishes for a whole planet of mold just not giving a fuck, and if I’m in a moldy place I get legit fucking depressed out of my mind. I always know when I’m at a moldy place as well because I wake up looking like I’ve been punched with puffy eyes. Mold allergies are ass to deal with. Tell your gf to do a mold detox, just some binders and antifungals that will clear out the mold in her sinuses and body, cause that billion year old I swear sentient furry shit loves to colonise your body if you’re susceptible to it. Dr Jill’s mold detox box works well. I’m surprised you didn’t have a reaction dude, you talked about reacting to bad food and beer and stuff and people who are sensitive to stuff in general can be pummelled by mold. But don’t allow any leaks, get them fixed, check your AC regularly and use an air filter anyway to keep it clean. Love ya old man
He should’ve just ignored it tbh.. dunno how it works in the US, but pretty sure it’s similar as here in the UK. They can only legally chase you for debt for 7 years, then they have to drop it.. Just ignore them, move, avoid it for 7 years. And done.
Dude, this EXACT same thing happened to my girlfriend and I. The landlord was a sketchball about it, mold inspector was irritating, and we had to stay in hotels for over a month, then had to keep paying rent for the remainder of the lease which was several months while we stayed at her parents house. Fucking ridiculous. They need to update the legislature on tenant mold protections. We were left out to DRY. My blood pressure is going up thinking about it right now... we got screwed. Just moved into the new apartment a month ago lol
Additionally, lawyers wouldnt respond to us, we called EVERYONE, and our landlord turned around and immediately started renting out to someone else right after. I had horrible migraines before leaving, i was working in the basement, where it was all hidden under the vinyl flooring. My girlfriend got flu symptoms and it came to head before we bit the bullet on the mold testing where everything happened from there.
Dave Asprey made Moldy The Movie and mold can create many different illnesses. About 23% of the population is more sensitive to it and are the canaries in the coal mine. It sounds like Carly is in that category and it's lucky that she's feeling better. Long term exposure often results in chronic health conditions. The landlady needs to do mold remediation, which is unlikely given her reluctance to share the report. You let her off easy by leaving, but it sounds like a better living situation for you now!
Yes. I just went through this with my daughter at her apartment complex. I would take the mold report and the termination agreement along with any documentation of health issues either of you experienced to a legal professional. I would take the mold report to your physicians and discuss potential related health issues first so you have a medical opinion linking the symptoms to the mold. You can find a legal professional via the Internet 👍 I chose to also outreach city council members with documentation and a short email requesting they ensure these complexes are following state and local laws. You can find that information on your local city website. There may be some legal forums/subreddit that has lawyers looking for potential class action cases, as you would expect in situations like this, you're not the exception and there are likely others experiencing this at the location. You may be entitled for reimbursement for any rent payments while the location was unlivable, as well as any associated moving costs due to the inhabitability of your home. Not a lawyer or doctor. Just a dad that got pissed off recently.
My friend has lived in a similar situation. She has had a really rough time recovering physically. You have a serious case here. You should definitely sue them. They should settle by refunding for some rent money back.
SUE your landlord. that's what i would do. i wouldn't sue if they weren't being shady, but since they are playing like that i would definitely extract my pound of flesh for that fiasco.
you should get back all the money you paid in rent and medical expenses etc. plus lasting health impacts that you two may suffer in the future. it is legitimate.
I asked this prosthetic guy fitting a fake leg on my Dad in the nursing home what is the biggest reason for his services and he said Legionnaires’ disease. Which is bacteria in air condition systems., I guess a lot of people get sick and septic shock
I had a moldy bathroom. Solved the issue by having warm showers instead of the piping hot ones I usually have. Also spraying cleaning vinegar around randomly helped a lot too.

You can find a legal professional via the Internet 👍
I chose to also outreach city council members with documentation and a short email requesting they ensure these complexes are following state and local laws.
Best of luck with this, I'll send you some positive vibes.
i don think mold is only an allergy thing, its actually toxic
Telling you this from Australia: SUE them. You will regret not suing them.

Get a temperature and humidity sensor if its too damp u will know

My old roommates house had mold and it absolutely wrecked me. Got out and immediately felt better. Glad y'all got out!
I asked this prosthetic guy fitting a fake leg on my Dad in the nursing home what is the biggest reason for his services and he said Legionnaires’ disease. Which is bacteria in air condition systems., I guess a lot of people get sick and septic shock
Andrew is the only American whose speech I understand almost completely
what my father would say about the mold in my house is that the evil is trying to take control over my life and I should read the bible
You and Carly should go to the doctors. You two most likely have some inflammation in your respiratory system, or worse, maybe an infection.
Moldy house whoops

Mold generally only affects people that have bad allergies and a compromised immune system. As long as you weren't eating it, you should be just fine.
I had a moldy bathroom. Solved the issue by having warm showers instead of the piping hot ones I usually have. Also spraying cleaning vinegar around randomly helped a lot too.
Excuse me... little girl
Land lords are assholes when it comes to mold.
