2010 SCV Brass Line Sings Chorale @ Walnut, CA
"if you can sing it, you can play it."
......and if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!!!
T Andre Feagin is my band director :) That's right, the guy in the red sweater.
even though you can find some hairs raising DCI moments out there, this has to be the most beautiful thing I've heard in all of DCI. the warmth, intonation, and perfectly heard chords is just so beautiful. If you can sing it, you can play it much better
On A Hymn Song by the Cadets might raise some hairs if you haven't seen that one yet...
The "van-guard" at the end sounds like an amen to close off a prayer. Really beautiful.
I love Professor Feagin:)
I understand that all Corps sing their parts, but this one always gets me....right to the goosebumps....
One of my all time favorite videos. I've been using it to tune studio accustics for a long time. Nothing has shaken the rafters like your horn line.
band kids are better singer than choir kids. hell yeah!
This makes me miss Marching band a lot
@truemusician100 He says, "enter this silence with great poise."
And the tone just gets better and better because of it!
Arguably THE best sounding hornline in DCI. I'm not saying loudest, that goes to Crown or Phantom, but I'm talking intonation, tone, and everything in between. SCV sounds so orchestral...it's amazing...
@anutyfruty he was my band director in high school a couple years ago! The man is amazing!
Listen with headphones! Chilling. Lovely. Thank you, Mr. Feagin, and all you young musicians, for sweating out the summer and playing your hearts out. Beautiful singing - I actually hear the base line better in voice than with horns.
i honestly never get tired of bands singing and then picking up their instruments and sounding virtually the same. simply amazing what these guys can do
chord at 1:43 soooooo good, then even better moving into the next!
This is just fantastic! the quality of balance, breathing, control and dynamics is just great!!! give me this over a group of people who believe they need to bend their knees and have bad releases means they are good
Vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanguaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to march with Feagin Just because he is so patient and Understanding plus he has it together A clear example is this. What a legend the Man is.....
So if you play contra but sing tenor .... mind. blown.
Some hornlines assign parts based on your voice type for singing, but most just have you sing in whatever octave is comfortable for you.
We sang our parts in the range that was most comfortable. About half the contra line could sing the pedal tones.
Andre's presence is just..so.. incredible.. he was the only brass caption head I feel like I REALLY had a solid connection with while I was playing.. like a great orchestral conductor! When you're communicating musically with someone who's presence is so strong and plain to see, you instantly have something in common with, and become one with everyone around you because they're focused on the same thing you're focused on and are feeling the same thing you're feeling.
I favorited this before i knew wat dci was then i come back and i realize wait this is vanguard -o-
@stakluva as a nation we have trivialized the importance of music education and the arts. I have a strong suspicion that a majority of musicians, regardless of their career path, take the lessons learned through the study of music and apply them to their life. Yet, our elected leaders are cutting programs and creating a void for our children. Thank goodness for drum corps and other music education programs that are developing these young musicians and sharing this wonderful music with us.
@MarinVillalpando15 If you don't have the time (or money) for DCI but you still want to march in a drum corps, look into joining a DCA corps. They are all-age and lots of fun. Marching in DCA Finals is a great experience. The season is about to start. In fact, today is the San Francisco Renegades Open House. Come down to Del Mar High School in San Jose today at 1PM. Many of our young people go on to march SCV, Blue Devils and Bluecoats. Worth your while!
@oragami94 For me, it's more like, "If you can sing it, you can play it-in tune!"
I remember in 1980, we sang the chorale from "Jupiter" for Madison and they sang, "You'll Never Walk Alone" for us. At least, I think that's what happened. It was so long ago!
Can anyone verify if at 1:23 , what did the person said? Was it " Walk into the silence with great voice." or "Walkin' through"? Or is it another entirely saying? And to whom can i attribute it to?
Thanks!!
@who8mahbacon After music theory, I got to play some of the bach chorales (I'm a french horn) for a baculareat or however its spelled. I don't like churchs nor religions but those were very fun to play. I got Tenor part...
@DrumVu without a doubt. i know Andre so well because i marched SCV mello line in '09. but i absolutely agree, the volunteers are truly the backbone of any corps. without them, there is no tour.
@bradporky16 I wouldn't doubt that. I respect any person involved in the activity - from the executive directors all the way to the volunteers (who are probably the biggest fans of DCI).
Next year will feature: C.C.I. Choir Corps International with groups like Santa Clara Vanguard or Blue Coats 2008 singing feature, I think there's gonna be a breakthrough
That is actually really smart. As a brass player you need to say your lips as much as possible. It's also a good technique to learn to listen to people around you.
@MichaelTuba Haha. I would like to think the same. But at 6-24, Kobe somehow pulled off another championship ring. Maybe Andre can do that this season.
wow this is wut i missed for going back!! =(
and where u the one wit the camera with the tri pod and with a mic on top of ur camera? ahha
@oldschooldrumcorps
After listening a few times, yep you're right. I guess I'll make it a modified "quote" , voice or poise works.....
@r0nej00 hey man what are your youtube video upload settings? this looks amazing at 360p and i have a canon too. SCV for LIFe. peace
@RockabillyChaCha dude! your so lucky man! he was the clinician at a band clinic i went to and i learned so much within 3 days!
@DrumVu I would like to think that Andre is a little more accurate than 6-24 :/
Great quality vids; thanks for the uploads!
Whoa, DCI has so amny AMAZING musicians. Thats right, not just horn player, they are masters of voice and dynamics as well.
@socaltrumpet83 actually the rest of the hornline has their gauntlets on their backs, contras do it a bit differently. =P
@CopperheadViper Trumpets came in a wee bit early and he was just giving them crap for it. i think at least..
There`s a reason this post has 101+ thousand hits. A great director and corp make for an amazing video.
The finest video of DCI brass playing I have witnessed so far. Calm, clear, and to the point
If you can't sing it, you can't play it... Unless it's a bag pipe band! I played in a pipe band for 15yrs after aging out. I'd take Corps any day, but the kilts made it worth it! :oD
@gonzo561 Richard Dreyfus as Mr.Holland: you can keep cutting music and art, but sooner or later the kids will run out of things to think and write about !
Andre Faegin is the MAN!!!!
it's like someone played an organ and just copied and pasted the part into this video =')
Lol the end.
"Vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan - Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard"
wow they actually would make a great chorus:)
10 years. SCV is a corps of true musicians. ❤️
@DrumVu I think he learned at Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (1998-2001)
@DrumVu his name is Andre Feagin and he is one of the finest men I have ever known
@MrBeastCastle28 its a chorale from Bach..Mr Feagin Rearrange it to what your hearing right now
That was..... Amazing.
I just realized that the last two notes they sing, they say Van-guard. that's class right there
@sariphax It's their gauntlets. The rest of the hornline has theirs on.
wtf is that big tuba looking instrument ive never seen anything like it
Stop at 0:09 / The guy 3rd from the left is really skinny and tall!!!!
@kawerty I think its "enter this silence with great voice (or 'poise')
that guys gonna be the conductor at an honor band im going to!!!!!!
@RBVTBONE SCV will miss this guy in 2011. Best of luck to him.
Santa Clara Blow My Fkin Mind Away and draw tears to my eyes.
@joe740544 He is now the Brass caption head for The Academy.
Gosh dang they balance/blend well..... an SCV trademark.
The chorale is "Abide With Richest Blessings"
Such a great blend.
Parking curbs in between explains the space inconsistency lol
who was tht one high pitched person that stood out?
can't hear you over the sound of VANGUARDDDDDDDDDD
Does anyone know what the name of this chorale is?
DAMN!!!! str8 SEXY!!! the ending gave me chills!

Fantastic mic on your camera. Good for you!
Is Dr.Feagin no longer part of their staff?

You're always there at the right moments..
@TheTealeuph Abide with Richest blessings
@DrumVu : this literally made me lol!!!
