- There are some things in our life that bring us comfort. Like a favorite old sweatshirt, a predictable meeting schedule at work or a favorite late night snack. When something new enters our lives, a new boss, a new layout in the grocery store, or a stay-at-home order that interrupts everything, it can feel very much like a threat!
Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC presents us with Leviticus 26:10 which lays out a promise of blessing and favor to the people of Israel, “You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new...”
But what does that mean? We don’t want to make room for the new, do we? The old is comfortable, the old is what we know, the old has gotten us this far and things are good...aren’t they?
In this message, Pastor Steven presents us with Bible characters like Jonah and Tabitha (a little known character with a lot to teach us) in order to help us understand that, “Our tolerance for tension will determine our potential for growth.”
We believe that through this message you will learn how to remove limiting labels in your life and reject the lies that are keeping you from fully receiving all that God has for you. Hopefully, you’ll come away with a new perspective to help you embrace what’s new as a blessing from God rather than a threat to your comfort.

Just found you on line last Sunday after watching my own church on line. Your intense,joyful, truthfull and motivating preaching have increased my faith 100 times fold. My husband who has refused to attend church with me before has watched multiple sermons with me since last Sunday.and you have brought us both to tears( now that is a miracle!). Idk why I’ve heard someone else say that before about him he’s my fav pastor online
The enemy is always attacking the people who do Gods work I went to a Christian rehab and the woman that owned it people are constantly saying she’s doing it for the money but I know if it wasn’t for that rehab I’d never got my life together and learned about Jesus and pastor Steven furtick has helped my faith grow so much I love that he is real and puts his own struggles out there.
I have been listening to pastor Steven for about 4 years now and he has made my faith grow and brought my daughter to God and currently teaching my granddaughter he is a blessing!!
I have been through a few different Denominations. I think the negative comments come from people who rely on a superficial and pharisiacal understanding of God's word. Elevation Church preaches from the heart. I am so glad I found these sermons. I haven't heard anything blasphemous from any of the sermons. Pastors keep it real!

Ya, riches, comfort...can soften us n make us complacent...
I adore this man's preaching style it's evolved so consistently over the years. Completely conversational with a few jokes sprinkled through like stand up to keep the audience engaged. Informative and challenging a style that presents Christianity at a logical and welcoming level. It's no wonder the church has this much success.

3 years later I'm listening to this and truly thinks it's a lesson for me.
I have been suffering with depression and paralysing anxiety after some major changes in my life and I have been asking myself and God what the purpose is for all of this. This message gave me the realization that I have been trying to hold on to my old version of peace which no longer even exists, the wrong kind of strength and my preferences. Things I have prayed for, growth I have prayed for for years is now happening in a season of tension that is in fact inconvenient but completely necessary and I know now I need to run to God. Thank for this message. It has changed my life in one the most difficult times I've ever had. ❤

I love your teaching style. No doubt that you can eloquently preach, but you are a theologian who can "make it plain" to teach us how to make biblical principles practical for everyday living. Some pastors are fire and brimstone pastors who push us away by preaching about a God who expects "holier than thou" religious living or else. But you teach us that God is merciful, loving, and understands our struggles. You teach us that God wants a relationship where we can be honest and vulnerable. This keeps me seeking God day after day - even when I've made a mistake.

Pastor Steven I almost shouted when you said you bruised your heel stomping the devil's head! My mind went back to Genesis 3 when God told Satan that the seed of the woman would bruise his heel stomping the devil's head! Just remember, you may have bruised your heel, but you bruised his head in the process!!! I'd say if you walked away with a bruised heel and he walked away with a bruised head, you definitely won that fight!!!!!!

The first time I heard this message was earlier this year in January, when I was fasting and I asked God to give me a prophetic word for 2021. I heard "Make room for the new" in my spirit, so I decided to search youtube to see if there was a sermon and this came up. Fast forward to now I was praying for another prophetic word for 2022 and I felt led to revisit this sermon and cross check if there was a fruition of this word in my life this year and indeed there was. I need to say this everyday till I can move on from this.
Ive been feeling empty in the past 1/2 a year looking for something besides The Lord's word to fill it. Tonight I decided to click into this video that kept popping up in my suggested videos ...... I feel the emptiness filled. I felt like God has spoken through Pastor Furtick to me. It feels wonderful to know that God still Cares about me and wanna reach out to me even when I ran away.

Minnesota I have been torn from my relationship of 20 years. It's hard to let go. I don't like this being alone, my kids are grown up and gone, I have no Family or friends up here. I tell myself, as I am in a motel, as I wait for this Carona19 to leave. I'm all alone, and right after I think it. I believe God steps in and tells me 'you're not alone, I will never leave you". This really hurts. I NEED God. Help me to get things done, to have the wisdom, bring new friends into my life to get things taken care of and live again or the Lord.

- [ ] The challenge is to Hold onto the old to the exclusion of receiving the new
- [ ] It’s justification by grace through faith. You see it’s not how much faith you have that saves you, it’s how much grace God has that saves you. The point is not how much faith you have, it’s who you have your faith in.
- [ ] How much should I trust God and how much should I try myself is the tension the older generations held onto. We are now creating a new way of leaning on God. Make room for the new.
- [ ] It’s easy to recognize the truth when you are not living in the tension of it. When you’re living in the tension, you loose sight of the truth. In the midst of great tension, a great truth can be shown.
-truth 1: Your tolerance for tension determines your potential for growth. We don’t like tension when it comes to Christianity. To sit in the tension of what God actually said as opposed to the tradition of we heard God say through the filter or personal preference and prejudice is gift of tension.
- [ ] Time under tension is the formula for growth. The very things we want to see are the very things we want to run from in our lives. We want to see it but not go through it ourselves or experience it. What makes for a good tv show us the kind of stuff we try and prey away in our lives. In the midst of great tension, a great truth can be shown.
- [ ] God increase the quality of my problems. I want higher quality problems. Don’t ask God to take your problems away. God is not interested in changing your circumstances as much as He is changing your heart. Once He changes your heart, by default your perspective on that situation changes and you know you’ve already overcome and are fighting from victory and not for victory. Some of the things that came into my life one season as a problem and opposition, where the things that God used to create opportunity for me to know him and make him know. It’d crazy how levictious (old covenant that was right before God through works) can be interpreted as either a blessing or inconvenience.
- [ ] Old covenant established through obedience and works. It was still grace but Grace measured out through behavior.
- [ ] New covenant established through the blood of Jesus. Through grace, by faith in Jesus. We are no longer under the old covenant contract. I don’t want God to relate to me on the basis of my works or what my lifestyle would merit.
- [ ] We progressed from the old covenant to the new covenant in the Bible.
- [ ] In the midst of great tension, a great truth be shown.
- [ ] When you are protecting the old, what’s new looks like a threat (protecting old covenant and the new covenant look like a threat.. but it’s not a threat, it’s a promise. It’s not a threat, it’s a blessing. They were threatened by the blessing Bc they didn’t recognize it and it didn’t remind them on what they were used to in their religious routine”.
- [ ] Are you threatened by your very own blessing?
- [ ] Sometimes God can be giving you exactly what you want but the tension that is required to produce the growth can be very uncomfortable. You NEED to learn how to bring GOD into the tension.
- [ ] truth 2: just remember that by that standard, you wouldn’t be here either (20 mins)
- [ ] When you are positioning yourself according the peace and purpose of God and when you are present In The situation where He has placed you, all of the thing other people run after, GOD IS GOING TO BRING IT TO YOU (21:19).
- [ ] This is the covenant of grace. I tried to get to God, I couldn’t.. so he ripped open heaven and stepped down to come inside of me so that the righteous requires of the law (21:47).
- [ ] Peter wasn’t looking for the vision, God brought it to Him.
- [ ] YAPPA- where God takes the wrong material. Paul demonstrated great power in yappa. A place where you don’t expect anything great to happen but it does. A place where God puts stuff together. Who else went to yappa in the Bible? Jonah. Jonah ran away from the lord, he went down to yappa. He resisted what he did not understand or no frame of reference for or conceptualized. He went to yappa to board a ship to run away from the Lord. Will you be like PETER to make room for something new, believe that he can break a barrier in your mind and go with it or like JONAH who ran from it.
- [ ] Paul said to Tabitha...get up and We can have a funeral or we can have a redirection. With the little girl he healed, Jesus sent everyone out of the room because he knew that if they stayed that their doubt might make it impossible for faith to really do what faith can do when it’s not accompanied by doubt. Make room for the new. Paul imitated his master and since his spirit lives in paul, faith worked. Make room for resurrection, for things in your life that you were just about to bury to breath again. Tabitha got up.
- [ ] Make room for the new: It’s not about closet space or clearing out your closet, it’s about the transformation of your mind. Do you have room for the new in your mind?
- [ ] When God shows us something we compare it to our previous source of reference. If you are not ready for new relationships, you will bring the same patterns to the new relationships that you brought to the old relationships. We keep people out of our lives that God wants to send because we are holding onto the hurt from the ones who have already left.
- [ ] DARE TO BELIEVE THAT GOD IS MAKING ROOM FOR THE NEW IN YOUR LIFE.
- [ ] You aren’t losing things in your life, God is moving it. Move it out God. Anything that’s in the way me being who I need to be in this season. Get it out of my heart, mind, habits. Get it out God. I don’t want it. I want, what you want. You can’t receive new miracles with old mindsets. How can we make room for the new? Empty yourself, humbling yourself and asking God what do you want to do in my YAPPA or you can run from it and resist it (not the same as taking no thought aka resisting it because we are to do that.. it’s just a saying) like JONAH did.
- [ ] What you do with it becomes your yappa which determines if you run from Gods purpose or towards it.
- [ ] How can we protect what we loved while we embrace what is new.
- [ ] 1. Don’t limit yourself by labels- What you do with your situations becomes your yappa which determines if you run from Gods purpose or towards it. Don’t limit it with a label. Get up peter and kill and eat. He was trying to kill Peters categories (mental barriers). Kill my categories God. Romans 8:28- It’s going to fulfill his purpose not my preference. It’s Gods job to know what GOOD is because that’s what is going to bring him glory, what experience I need to get. TRUTH 3: Stop limiting God with your labels. Don’t limit your life and what God can do through you by labels. There’s a lot more to me than what’s going on in a certain part of my life. Do not limit me. Do not limit God. (I’m white but I’m not only white, don’t pre judge me based on something I had no control over. I want you to get to know my character and see the God in me.. so don’t pre judge me). Are they insulting you or is God using them to instruct you?
- [ ] 2. Don’t be loyal to lie- make room for the room in YOU. Don’t run from yourself, sometimes the environment is not the issue. A lie is familiar, don’t miss what God is bringing to us by faith just because you don’t like how it feels.
- [ ] 3. Don’t be late- have no hesitation about going. If you hold onto what’s old, what you thoughts, what you wanted, etc....you might miss today’s miracle trying to hold onto yesterday’s blessing. What are you holding that’s old that’s keeping you from receiving what’s new and what’s NOW. It’s not that the old was bad, but it’s that the NEW IS HERE. A new season, a new covenant, a new day... don’t be destabilized in life. God gives us the tensions to see what we will do in YAPPA. Run from God or RUN to GOD. In a psychological and spiritually sense.
- [ ] GODS BLESSINGS don’t check your schedule to see if it’s a convenient time. You have to learn to Multitask your miracles. Keep giving. Keep going. Keep trusting and keep believing by faith. If you don’t, you’re going to miss today’s opportunities Bc you are too attached to yesterday’s blessings.
- [ ] A change of mind makes room for the new. New way of thinking. The old way is the old way. That’s not how you do it anymore. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone the new has come. There’s a new way to live, to love, to serve (a way that seems upside down but it’s actually right-side up). If you’ll make room the new, you’ll still be eating last years harvest when you’ll have to move it out.
- [ ] You don’t have to earn acceptance before God and stay stuck in performance. That’s the old way of thinking, doing, and copping. You already have acceptance, righteousness and forgiveness before God through grace because of your faith in Jesus.
- [ ] We will never truly know the power of this moment until it’s over. We will never fully understand the purpose of this season until we are on the next one.

I’ve been holding on to what I experienced with my ex boyfriend blaming myself for all the chances I forgave him only for him to leave me but thank you for this message. It really spoke to me that i need to make room for the new and that starts with my mindset.

Steven. While in my secret place I was begging God for a clear answer about something that I have been holding onto but scared to give up. This was the message I watched 5 minutes later and the Spirit moved in a way that was one of those times like "YES God I hear you".
I understand the pressure of speaking and walking away thinking that I should have said this or that or should not have said this or that. Making Room for the new
I am currently in the middle of the storm of my life. Once I realized the storm was upon me I remembered a fear that had been with me most of my life. I do not get on roller coasters. However, I remember seeing Jesus behind me on the top of a rollercoaster holding my head and waiting for me to say yes. I never said yes. Now the enemy has come in like a flood. I remember saying "I accept your will Father God!". I remember this being around 5 years ago. I know since that time I have woken up saying "there is something different about this world." at least once. Today I sit here feeling honored and thankful for being in this position. I am at my weakest. The enemy has taken me away from the calling Jesus has set aside for me. However, I believe Jesus is using this storm to help me trust in him. I have always believed in Jesus, Father God, and the Holy Spirit. My faith has grown exponentially in this time. My trust is now strengthening. I only just began reading Paul in this storm. God is Great. Amen. God Bless You ALL! I want you to know that GOD IS REAL! I have felt him right beside me in times of trouble. I will be present in this battle. AMEN!
