      arboristBlairGlenn just what I needed to hear, Glen. I finish my 2nd year degree on Arboriculture in June. Was thinking of heading in that direction but feel like I need to gain more experience. Even though I have been a climber for 12 years... The extra knowledge I have consumed these last few months is mind blowing...
      I am also doing my final project on whether the reintroduce native Pine Martin can control the over population of your Sciurus carolinensis.... Keep up the good VT's. You have 9 new subs from Plumpton College here in South East England.

    Thanks for including DBH and height. I wish more arborists spoke that way.
    If I got it right, DBH is a worldwide concept, though in a great many countries it is calculated as 136 cm. though I will always say 54" .

    I have always loved and appreciated trees. I found your Chanel and watched most of your videos finding them interesting and educational.
    Out walking with my dogs I suddenly realised that I am looking at trees with a different perspective, why did that big branch come off that oak tree? How much more of it is going to fall and why?
    Then feeling so proud when I think I have found the reason! (Probably I'm wrong but no one is there to say otherwise!)

    This is an interesting, informative and well balanced view of a tree that in my opinion (based entirely on emotion) should really be left alone. It is so sad when someone wants to destroy a beautiful tree that has been around for donkey's years simply because they want an extra room on their house. Did they consider moving house?

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agent Bertram I understand your emotion towards this beautiful tree. It saddens me as well. The other side of this issue is the extreme high cost of housing here. That tiny house is in the 1.5 million range. Sick, I know. A 1 bedroom apartment rents for 3 thousand a month. That's just an average apartment. Very sick. Greed has set in motion a series of events that lead to decisions based on "how can we make it work"?

    A consulting arborist’s job (under our current capitalist model) is to tell the tree owning client they can sustain both health AND a particular look when actually this is impossible.

      Michael B. Not sure. I know that parts of Europe are much stricter. Some places require a license to own and operate a chainsaw! The U.K. Requires that you have a license for each television!! Pay annually😳

    • @pontuseriksson4533
      @pontuseriksson4533 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is it really just to own a chainsaw? Here in Sweden you need a license to operate them professionally, which i think is fair considering how many lethal accident we had acoupple of years ago.

    Did you know our native pear, the Plymouth Pear 🍐 is one of the rarest trees here in the UK. Can only be found in 2 hedgerows in Cornwall.. lost due to cross fertilisation and the removal of hedgerows and also does not produce many viable seeds, this is a form of mechanism called self-incompatibility... Thus preventing inbreeding... Hence it's rarity.

    I can see problems with this but it would be I nice wayout if you just wanted to get to the better paying job.

    Hello friends, I’m in my third year of doing tree work in Washington state. I love the industry and want to advance my career. Can anyone tell me what help them become a consulting arborist? And what is the work like compared to that of a climber? Are you explicitly writing reports all day or doing fieldwork at all?

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My consulting work is about tree inspections, often for an Arborist report for removal. Not knowing the ordinances in Washington, I’m not sure how well a consulting business can work. Where I live, every city requires an Arborist report to be submitted to that city Arborist for a decision. Sometimes development and protecting root zones. Know your area where you work to understand the needs of that community.

  • @TheUserid82
    @TheUserid82 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do the towns/cities say about lower impact methods like horizontal drilling and air trenching for running utilities inside root zones?

  • @jacobsladdertreetech2829
    @jacobsladdertreetech2829 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might be a weird question but do you charge hourly for your reports? How much do you charge? I have been doing more and more and it just seems not worth it. I really don't like going into court I feel the eye of soron.lol

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jacob's Ladder Tree Tech Jacob's Ladder Tree Tech I charge 85. An hour with a one hour minimum. A report usually adds an hour or two (depending on the need). Construction reports for the City can be 8 to 12 hours with follow up inspections. Most companies around here charge more. I don’t like the court cases either. Many of my consults are from folks who find me from this channel and are concerned about the health or safety of the tree. I also do climbing inspections and provide a video showing what is wrong. These usually take a few hours including video editing time. I couple my consulting on days that I’m stuck running bids. If I make some income on those days, it feels like less of a waste of my time.

      Good question
      The weekend arborist in training would like to know how to calculate height

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thomas Herrington the height of the tree. I know what 10 feet is. I stand back and double it with my fingers and count off 20's. I'm generally within 5 feet which is good enough for an understanding of height. Diameter is just holding a yardstick and note size also give or take a bit. If it is close to permit size, I use a tape for circumference and divide by pi(3.14).
