Saint Germain des Pres is a church and also the name of its quarter in Paris' 6e Arrondissement, on the Left Bank. It's a fantastic area filled with charm, upscale shopping, and tons of art galleries (as well as the national' academy of fine arts - the academie des beaux arts). Well worth a visit!
My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

    FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Almost four years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGear...
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off TH-cam? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jays...
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one: amzn.to/2ykS9Ux

I'm enjoying seeing Paris by it's quarters-It's been wonderful so far.In this video I was happy to see the painting of the grinning cat is still up on the wall near the Beaux Arts. Also there is a statue in the church of St.Germain that fascinates me as it was basically 12th century rubbish that was uncovered in a dig a few years ago.I believe the statue would have been a madonna and child but the stone cracked while being worked so was thrown in a rubbish pit way back when.Anyway I think it's cool that a stone mason's discarded work is on display in a church that dates from the 12th century.

6em has restaurants galore--or at least it used to when I was there. The oldest restaurant in Paris is in the 6em. Place St. Andre des Arts has lots of cafes, bistros, walk-up creperies, etc. There were also several Algerian cous-cous restaurants that were very good. This was my old stomping grounds and I loved it. I'm sure it has changed a lot since I was there, but the architecture, the streets, the bridges & hopefully the market are still there. The Musee d'Orsay is there along with a lot of government buildings and other museums. The Muse de la Croix is wonderful. You will love it. I love the small museums the best. I always missed the Jeu de Pomme when its collection moved over to Muse d'Orsay. It is much easier to have a personal relationship with a collection when it is small.

Oscar Wilde was only 46 when he died
He was broken by the prison sentence
he received from the British authorities
for gross indecency - basically being gay.
He served two years hard labour in Reading Gaol.
