Urdu language is mostly derived from Persian and Arabic languages.The beauty of the original song is that it is entirely in Persian yet it is so familiar to the people speaking Urdu.The National Anthem of Pakistan is in Persian, barring just one word of Urdu.So nice to see you after a considerable period of time. This poetry is by faiz Ahmad faiz. And it is not in Persian. But Urdu.
Before long, people will be calling the works of not just Ghalib, Iqbal and Faiz as Persian, but perhaps even include Faraz, Insha, Amjad, and most of the contemporary Urdu poets. From the National Anthem to this song, it’s all Urdu in its exquisite beauty. The DNA of Urdu is more Persian and Arabic than anything else, least of all Sanskrit, and because of this when Urdu rises to its best it acquires Persian tones, but it remains firmly Urdu.
This song’s exquisite beauty lies in its poetry - long before Afreen, Afreen, there was Jaan-e-baharaan which was the gold standard for songs describing the beauty of the beloved.
One cannot appreciate the true beauty of this song unless one savors the elegance contained within each phrase, every word.
In terms of singing, there’s the original and then the rendition by Ghulam Ali… and then this Coke Studio version which dares experiment with the all time classic and comes out not only unscathed, but with its head held high.
All great languages including English are derived from other languages but that doesn’t make them any less great

Original song sounds out of this world, sung by Ahmad Rushdi. Many have attempted to imitate that performance like Muhammaed Ali Sheki, Waris Baig etc. No one earlier try to tinker with the composition like Shujja Haider have tried here.

As a Punjabi ethnicity who learn & speak Urdu in school days! I can understand this easily 😊 but to speak in the same expression or terminology, I think one as to go back to 60’s Pakistan 🇵🇰 😂.

It's Urdu. Urdu itself is deeply influenced by Persian so Urdu isn't close to Hindi as is commonly believed but to it's ancestral language Persian. The original song is supremely ahead of this version. This is a good attempt but nowhere near as hypnotic and charming as the original. Also you accidentally linked not to the Coke Studio channel but another one that posted the Coke Studio song so it's not the link to the original video.

For me this song is far more better than Afreen Afreen mainly because of lyrics. It's a treat to have such intricate and rich lyrics in a song. It's such a lovely song but one have to be really familiar with Urdu to truly appreciate the beauty of the ghazal
