    Gotta love the Prelude ❤❤ I've had mine for 12 years

    I'm middle aged now but never let go of my black 97 SH Lude. Been daily driving it for almost 20 yrs and while the paint is faded and she's not fast by today's standards, she's still fun in the corners and puts a smile on my face. Except for the leaky trunk, O2 sensor, oil burning, bad EGR valve, and rickety shocks, she's been reliable and running on almost all factory original parts (beyond consumables). Even the AC still blows cold with the original compressor and freon. No rusting or gear grinding. Not too bad for such an old un-garaged poorly maintained beater.

    Suspension, cams and a quality exhaust will truly bring these to such a level of perfection its hard to comprehend. Many RWD cars still can't catch them on the twisties.
    Just be aware of the IACV and EGR causing idle issues. Both are very easy fixes.
    Also, keep in mind a Prelude of this quality is worth more each year. In not joking, they are climbing in value as more die at the hands of kids and ricers/abuse. Lots of people approach me about the car! Many people have fond memories of these. One of Hondas best cars and it out-handled the same years Ferrari in the Slalom challenge.

    • @SickStreets4K
      @SickStreets4K  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really just needs headers and better suspension for now. Cams are great but idk if I'd be throwing cash at this one like that to get the standalone and all that, at least for now. The supra is a huge money pit already lol. It has a nice exhaust just has the resonator unfortunately bashed in bc of how low it was. It's on ground control springs but it rides like crap so I'll probably get some nice shocks soon for them or some coilovers.

      I do need to ask how EGR affects idle? Legitimate question, just trying to learn. I’ve cleaned everything on mine but that.

      @@eIoping I sold it like a week ago lmao, new daily will be posted soon. Was a great car to refine my driving on though. And this thing went to hell and back hauling parts to get my Supra all built up over the past year and a half, and took me to and from work, night cruises, and more with not many issues. Despite it not being my favorite car ever because of some imperfections that would bother me, I can’t say I don’t miss it, or that I’m not thankful I was able to experience it. Was a good time for sure

    Just picked up my Daily as well. Got the steal. Car was idling rough took the IACV off cleaned it an now it idles mint. Has a motor swap of 171k but the body’s got 168 an cars from New York with very very very little rust. Brings the 16 year old out in me every time I drive it also got a extra motor an full exhaust with the deal.

    I've had my manual 01, since 02. Just a sr intake/cat back, & a countersunk(shorter)shift knob, as far as performance mods.. Not great on gas, & burns earl (typical vtec) But, Quick (Even by today's standards) Fun, & has been Super Reliable!🙏🏻 (I Do get on it, but don't beat on it!! )🤟

    Haven't seen your videos yet except for this one, but will. I owned an Aussie VTiR prelude. I sold it and bought a 2004 Monaro, a Pontiac GTO in your world. TBH mate, they both use the same amount of petrol.
    Sure the prelude doesn't seem fast on the streets, (I'm sure it's faster than the shit box next to you at the lights) but take it for a thrash in the hills and then it'll all make sense.
    Mate, once it's in your blood its hard to say good bye. I'm not getting rid of the Monaro, but a Type S import Prelude is on the cards because I feel empty without one.

    • @SickStreets4K
      @SickStreets4K  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately south florida is almost all straight lines so this car won't really see twisties unless I do a long road trip with it. But I definitely am enjoying it, the only thing it is really missing for me to really enjoy it are some better shocks and tires. It's lowered on ground control springs with stock shocks so it is not very comfortable at all. Some koni yellows would make it feel incredible. And I would love to build a GTO at some point they are simple but great looking cars imo. The gas mileage on the LS motors is pretty good for a v8 from what I've heard so I see how it can be close to the Prelude. But compared to my old LS400, i fill up with literally half of what I used to in that car, and the city mpg is at least around 10 mpg better. Highway is a little better as well but about the same.

    I’m saving up for one of these. It’s a 1997 Coupe 2D. It’s an automatic trans tho. Are the automatics just as good?

    • @SickStreets4K
      @SickStreets4K  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Automatic definitely won't give you the same driving experience at all. But if you don't really care whether it's auto or manual then yeah they should work. Altho I have heard the honda autos do shift kind of rough, it's not the smoothest gearbox but they do work.

    • @thatonetexan1950
      @thatonetexan1950 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Prelude automatic transmissions have serious mechanical issues, it's by far the worst auto transmission Honda has made. I'd stay away from them.

    • @AJKecsk
      @AJKecsk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DO NOT get a Prelude automatic unless you want to replace the trans every 100,000 or so. They had serious design problems.
