    Your video had saved me with the anti reverse issue. I accidently put in wrong position and unable to stop the reverse. Your video show the anti reverse clip in the that sparked me.. Hahaha.. Although different brand, but the setup are mostly the same. Thank you!!!!

    Shockingly, I have never opened one of these up before my bearing was in a housing with two screws holding the bearing down, I pulled it out to clean it and it was so seized up I used some pliers on the bearing and it SNAPPED!!! Thank god it has a housing I pulled each ball out and cleaned them and put it all back together and slid it back in the housing then put the screws back on and boom fixed! Thanks so much for the walkthrough!

    I went fishing back in October at the NC coast and used 12 of my vintage fishing Rees (no Daiwa 8600 this time). It was the first week of November before I finished taking them all apart, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled them. Speaking of bearings vs bushings I have three of those huge Daiwa 9000C Silver Series saltwater reels that only have 1 ball bearing and nylon bushings. These reels are 50 years old and work perfectly! The 7000C in that series (I have four) has three ball bearing in it are I’ve had to work hard to bring some of those bearings back from being seized. I’ve even replaced a few in a 4000C. I use PB Blaster to rejuvenate old bearings if it is possible. I personally hate reels with an AR clutch and no override. I think I have one Quantum and I never use it. I am opposite of you as I saltwater fish a good part of the time. I wish I had an ultrasonic cleaner but I clean my reels the old fashioned way. At the coast I always rinse off and wipe down all my Rees after use. If any of them get dunked I take my tools with me and I’ll disassemble that reel at the beach house and clean and lube it right there. I have many of my best vintage Mitchells in waterproof cases to protect them. I also have cases for some Penn Z Rees and my Shimano SSG7000 saltwater rear drag reels. I use gun wipes to wipe off the outside of my reels after they are dry. You gave some great advice in this video! - Chris

    Thank you for the video! Got a Piscifun flame reel and first time using it in the river but the sand banks made my reel fucked up and seized up the main bearing. Got it loose with nearly all the sand out but the I spilled some grease down in the anti reverse lock areas and now my reel won't stop spinning. But this video will help me now!

    I sold so many variations of that older Shimano you put up from 94-2002. Shimano just took that essential simple reel concept, and built a lot of their lineup around it. The ones you showed usually last the average angler 10 years by me (freshwater).

      Those are decent reels and super cheap. Just reliable. Some of the really old ones with the same basic design from the 80's didn't use the fast cast setup, I wouldn't mind having one of those.

      I agree and have a personal preference for older reels myself. I don't really like the idea of disposable reels but I own some (including these) that would fall into that category.
      At this time I do not service reels for others. I have thought about it though. I do occasionally rebuild some and offer them for sale via eBay.

    Hey man,
    Been struggling with my shimano Sahara c3000. Last time i used it something got stuck and i broke most of the gears. I basically replaced all the innards, cleaned and lubed everything. Seems to turn smoothly until i put the rotor on and i can hear friction. If i go ahead and put the top nut on, the reel can barely turn. I put it back exactly as i remembered. Watched videos, looked at every diagram and can't seem to figure it out.
    Any input would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you are possibly missing a spacer washer that would go under the rotor. There have been a lot of different versions of the Sahara C3000 reels, so I’m not sure if this is the correct schematic for your particular reel or not…but take a look at part number 35 in the schematic. A part like that would be my first suspicion as the culprit. www.plat.co.jp/parts/SHIMANO-Spinning/SAHARA/17-SAHARA-C3000-03628.jpg

      @@TheFishingHobby thanks for the response. Just took it apart again and i did have a washer there. But upon further investigating i noticed my clutch assembly was missing a roller. Not sure if that could cause that problem, but i guess I'll replace that and get back to you

    • @TheFishingHobby

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here is an example of some cheap bearings: Generic MR147 7x14x3.5 mm Metal Open Ball Bearing (Pack of 10) by SnowSpitzShop Brand www.amazon.com/dp/B073X26D4Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_squ3CbATGGHZW

    I just bought a new daiwa Bg 8000 and on the first day it started getting hard to crank. When my line is in the water it gets hard to make the line right or even reel in. Any tips?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure exactly what is going on with your reel. Do you hear and grinding or rubbing sounds while reeling? My first thought would be something is binding. I have seen a bent spool oscillation shaft cause similar problems on other reels. You might want to take it out and roll it on a flat surface like thick glass or something similar and look for any signs of it being bent. Here is a great write up on those reels with a lot of disassembled pictures you can use for reference: www.alanhawk.com/reviews/bg16.html
      Good luck to you on figuring out what is going on. I hope you are able to get it working right!

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It may have dried salt in the bearings locking it up. The water would dissolve the salt, freeing it up. I suppose you could keep doing that, but I'd relube it after it dried personally.
