I was born in 1986, and while this was released in 1984 and I'd heard it probably 100 times and had a number of heartaches, it never really felt like it meant anything. It never hit me. Until now. 5 years ago this Christmas, I began a relationship with a girl who meant everything to me. Over those 5 years we had ups and downs, we got married and bought a house together. But now, I have to look toward the fact that this year's holidays will feel hollow and empty after she suffered from life too much and decided she was better without me in her life, essentially pinning the blame on me for her pain without actually saying or admitting it :( I wish I could say that I'll find a new girl/woman and give my heart to and enjoy the holidays again like I was able to, but after everything that's happened, the time it took to find someone the first time, and above all else the risk I'd be taking by putting my feelings on the line again, one can't blame me for saying no or never again. Guess time will tell. Time will tell...
This reminds me of my mother and I. She was a bus driver and needed to wake up super early to get the bus for the kids so I would go with her cause I was a kid at the school and the drive there was like an hour and I remember listening to this on the radio while trying to take a nap before we got on that cold ass bus in the middle of winter. The hot air blowing on my face and the rain against the window. It sucked cause of how early I had to get up, but looking back on those memories really makes me emotional. It was very peaceful times. Something I really miss. I think that's why I love car rides so much now. Fuckin love roadtrips. This song is great
