What an absolute geezer, could listen to his stories all day long. One of lifes true characters. Don't get the sort anymore. Will be buying the book for sure.
Top man Gary, remember when he moved 3 doors from me in mk then he moved to racecourses estate built a brick wall for him , used to see him at colvill dogs hinckley, flapping, and at Bletchley dogs lovely man 👍
I have to say that Gary is a fantastic bloke and I have fed him from my hospitality unit on the other side of the track at Ascot in the past. He still does Warwick where he has stood for over 30 years. Lovely lovely bloke.
A man of his words. My gambling was getting out of control. I earn 12k a month and was gambling half that. Admitted to the wife and she already knew. So I now limit myself to £100 a week and we've never been so better off. This interview has just made me order his book winning it back
I have £200 a month spare, got to 15k in 6 months, then lost it, ruined me for 8 years, mate get as many holidays as you can they only £500 a week away 🎉 better then laying horses at Southwell like me 🥹
Everybody loves a true story, I'm no different, and watching this is the first time I've heard of this Man. Finished watching it thinking "what a Legend"
The racing community is second to none and I think the stories from punters of near missis and unlucky losers are sometimes better than those of winners.....after all its something we can all relate to......right? .....and the Magnificent 7, I was there and didn't back a single one of them!! Lol.
Nick is a great interviewer too. Genuinely interested and knows the material backwards. Good listener too, not interrupting constantly like most modern interviewers.
I had 40/1 or maybe 60/1 winner at Brighton in the last race at Brighton many year's ago. Went to collect my winnings and he was trying to do a runner. I got my winnings. Bookmakers bent crooks the lot.
This is meant as a big compliment but people like Gary (also more extreme Harry Findlay) have had so many life experiences with so many highs that when interviewed they cannot help being jogged by memories that take them off track for a bit so they jump around. Always a sign of a life well lived
Findley admitted he lost 3 million on the horses though he did make more than that on other sports....but as regards racing he was a poor judge who backed long odds on shots and lost
Amazing story, what a character. Its easy in hindsight but laying 40k at 4s to Coral when he looking for 9/2 seems incredibly generous. Nowadays these bookies don't take any sort of size.
Disgusting how hills wanted there dough within a week ,good on coral giving him time ,fair play to him playing with the big guns tho ppl like him I want them to win
Good interview had not known his story good on him.i have had my share of losing bets had a Bentley my pride and joy sold it put the money on S.C to win gold Cup (David Nichols) didn't win come out next time 3 weeks later and won a 2 mile race at Liverpool even money. Now just my pension to live on were I earned a day now a month but would not change a thing trying to beat the bookie keeps the heart ticking.
i hope your dad is well, i remember seeing him some time back now in billericay,he disappeared from the telly because of one mistake...calling a result at lingfield too fast if i remember right, i would still prefer dave to alot of the presenters today.
I have an interesting Gary story , he was filling in on a tipping line and i happened to phone it once! and that was the day i heard Gary say the following unforgettable quote ...."whoever put that in at 15/8 has s h i ** in their a r ** !!! " shortly after i believe he was fired from said tipping line :PP
The last race of the 7 was one of the most fixed races you'll ever see. Yet it's very rarely mentioned and was never investigated. Just shows that race fixing is fine if it gets the sport untold attention.
If you can lose your fortune on a game of pitch and toss and make no mention of the loss. Or in this case talk about it to anyone who'll pay you an appearance fee from that day onward. Lovely man he may be, and yes everyone got paid...eventually, but he was betting with money he didn't have.
Some people would think he's crazy ? But only the people with that rouge gambler inside who does some crazy shit planning ahead thinking the dream is in sight ! Truly understand he enjoyed it in a sick way, he felt that emotion very few ever will when it all fell apart that sickness 🤢🤢
He’s right though bookies are not proper bookies no more! The only proper bookmaker is Fred done who pushes out his odds as he’s willing to be the only proper bookmaker atm and he will take over the bookmaking in time.
Can we please go back to the old days whereby Bookies pay 1/4 odds for 1st 4 in Handicaps of 16 runners or more & the rest of the older rules!! Clerks of Courses should be telling the Rails Bookies they do same or they don't get a Pitch!! - Also the 1/5 odds 1st 4,5,6 or 7 Bollocks for online Bookies - They're Raking it in - Otherwise they wouldn't be doing it!!!!!!!
i was in a ladbrokes bookies in Wimbledon London that day. i was just a young dumb punter and i was chatting to an old man who seemed to know more than me about horses. i asked him if he fancied anything that day and he said he thought frankies 1st 5 races had a good each way chance. i wrote out a bet to do 10 pounds each way accumulator on the 1st 5 races and then i thought i wouldn't be that lucky and i threw the bet in the bin. not sure what i would have win but it would have been quite a bit
Love to hear these stories from the ring... sounds like a top bloke.... not sure about how far he's stretching the truth when laying a nag for close to 1.5 mill with a 3k float... but whatever floats ur boat makes 4 a good Jackanory!!! As someone mentioned love listening to this guy, Harry Findlay and Barry Dennis not forgetting barney curly
Gal would also give Shakespeare a run for his money.....one of his chapters is called: "I Done Me Bollocks Again"!!!! go on Gal! :))))))))) what a title for a chapter :))) also he details about being about to get married to his jew girlfriend and she said he would have to be circumcised !! this was arranged :P but Gal f ed off to Jersey ! i was roaring with laughter reading that :)))) our hero wasn't having that! great character great man
What a story....Gary should hold his head high. He saw an opportunity in the market and a 1 in a million beat him. I bet you he would take the same bet over and over again....most people should as that is how you make money over time. Just a shame it was a touch "too" much risk for him at the time
funny i was in bookies norm bout 20folk in, was at least 200, all in backing dettori, but i done a gary! and backed the 2nd pat edderys i was same like surely must get beat lol
Class . Wonder how much he could of greened your the race for . He should of got compensation from sky what a joke thinking he masterminded some dog bet for 8 bags
What a top man.
Sky should be ashamed of themselves after not giving him his job back.
Absolutely

What an absolute geezer, could listen to his stories all day long. One of lifes true characters. Don't get the sort anymore. Will be buying the book for sure.
A fantastic insight, brilliant Nick Luck presenting, let the man tell the story, no interuptions
Top man Gary, remember when he moved 3 doors from me in mk then he moved to racecourses estate built a brick wall for him , used to see him at colvill dogs hinckley, flapping, and at Bletchley dogs lovely man 👍
What a great listen this was, best of luck for the future Gary
I have to say that Gary is a fantastic bloke and I have fed him from my hospitality unit on the other side of the track at Ascot in the past. He still does Warwick where he has stood for over 30 years. Lovely lovely bloke.
Marvellous ! Great I use word loosely interview as it was the Gary show, well done Nick for letting Gary talk
Proper gentleman
fantastic interview with Mr Wiltshire ... a real bookmaker back in the day before all the algorithm kings
Could not believe my eyes at Kingston Blount point to point one day and one of the bookies clerks was Gary. Happy as Larry talking to every one.
A man of his words. My gambling was getting out of control. I earn 12k a month and was gambling half that. Admitted to the wife and she already knew. So I now limit myself to £100 a week and we've never been so better off. This interview has just made me order his book winning it back

The book (his first) that Gary referred to is called Winning It Back …..it’s a great read. God bless you Gary Wiltshire
Everybody loves a true story, I'm no different, and watching this is the first time I've heard of this Man. Finished watching it thinking "what a Legend"

The man is a survivor.
Never met Gary but if I did pint would be on me! What a guy!! Never heard someone so so happy he deserves the world! Off to buy the book now❤️
The racing community is second to none and I think the stories from punters of near missis and unlucky losers are sometimes better than those of winners.....after all its something we can all relate to......right? .....and the Magnificent 7, I was there and didn't back a single one of them!! Lol.
Just quite simply a great man....
Respect from Thailand
Nick is a great interviewer too. Genuinely interested and knows the material backwards. Good listener too, not interrupting constantly like most modern interviewers.
Paid shill for corrupt bookies more like 😂😂😂😂😂
I had 40/1 or maybe 60/1 winner at Brighton in the last race at Brighton many year's ago.

Absolutely
What a great interview. Gary and the Legand harry Findley are two of the best people the game will ever have.
Totally agree
one layed an horse that bankrupted him and the other lost a fortune on the horses.....hardly people to look up to
Findley admitted he lost 3 million on the horses though he did make more than that on other sports....but as regards racing he was a poor judge who backed long odds on shots and lost
Brilliant watch what a top top man

Very true unfortunately
⭐Unadulterated👌
Gary used to present the dogs with my dad (Dave Smith) many years ago.
i hope your dad is well, i remember seeing him some time back now in billericay,he disappeared from the telly because of one mistake...calling a result at lingfield too fast if i remember right, i would still prefer dave to alot of the presenters today.
Enjoyed that
I have an interesting Gary story , he was filling in on a tipping line and i happened to phone it once! and that was the day i heard Gary say the following unforgettable quote ...."whoever put that in at 15/8 has s h i ** in their a r ** !!! A true gent and bookmaker.
Top top lad u can only wish good things for him
Legend..
so Unlucky, I still cant believe that bloody horse won
I remember Derek Burrows I'm sure he was at Henlow as well
The last race of the 7 was one of the most fixed races you'll ever see. Yet it's very rarely mentioned and was never investigated. Just shows that race fixing is fine if it gets the sport untold attention.
Was paddling water for last 2 furlongs

Gary , have met you in a betting shop in Birmingham by robin hood island , what an experience ,also i have read you book , absolutely brilliant.
i was in a ladbrokes bookies in Wimbledon London that day. i was just a young dumb punter and i was chatting to an old man who seemed to know more than me about horses. i asked him if he fancied anything that day and he said he thought frankies 1st 5 races had a good each way chance. i wrote out a bet to do 10 pounds each way accumulator on the 1st 5 races and then i thought i wouldn't be that lucky and i threw the bet in the bin. not sure what i would have win but it would have been quite a bit
roughly 30k
actually nearer to 55k
Great character.
Well done to Fred Done.
Didn’t he already publish a book back in the day?
"Winning it Back" good read
Wiltshire is a real gangster ...
How Nick luck was overlooked in favour of ed chamberlain for the itv racing job is a mystery to me . Old wooden top ed isn’t a patch on Nick
Seems like a really decent geezer.
Love to hear these stories from the ring... sounds like a top bloke.... not sure about how far he's stretching the truth when laying a nag for close to 1.5 mill with a 3k float... but whatever floats ur boat makes 4 a good Jackanory!!! As someone mentioned love listening to this guy, Harry Findlay and Barry Dennis not forgetting barney curly
oh he did thou lay that nag ...
It was layed to bookies on the slate
Very.Goodman.what Astor you.wish him.well

Small bookie ! fuck me he is massive now
funny i was in bookies norm bout 20folk in, was at least 200, all in backing dettori, but i done a gary! and backed the 2nd pat edderys i was same like surely must get beat lol
Stephen nolans best friend is northern irelands biggest independent bookmaker.. did gary know that?
Proper man. Se him last at high easter point to point grand national day 3 horse race. 1 to 3 6 to 4 3 to 1 the rag 😂😂😂😂😂
He is right about the lack of smartness and style in bookies attire these days - its disgusting
Tommo wanted 2000 shares if it’s free 😂
😂😂😂😂
Why didn’t he just put 300k on 9/2 payout the 1.8 then keep 350k
Class .
Wonder how much he could of greened your the race for .
He should of got compensation from sky what a joke thinking he masterminded some dog bet for 8 bags
People like Gary have disappeared from the game and the edgy part of it that has been lost and definately less fun.
A lovely chap from corals don't you mean a bbbbbbb
Gary has a free syndicate wow that's good but count me out lol
but I remember..... Montagues Dawson.
nice bloke but he has put me of betting for life ,
typical of most punters betting in the shops you win
they scream blue murder bookies died years ago
run by stockbrokers who play by their own rules
Bookies waste of space nowadays , impossible to get a bet on unless ur a losing punter ,, exchanges outshine bookies all day long 💯💥💥💥
Show me a poor bookie .
