Met him often at the race tracks he is all ways smiling and never seen him moaning when he pays out either unlike a lot of other bookies

A man of his words. My gambling was getting out of control. I earn 12k a month and was gambling half that. Admitted to the wife and she already knew. So I now limit myself to £100 a week and we've never been so better off. This interview has just made me order his book winning it back
I have £200 a month spare, got to 15k in 6 months, then lost it, ruined me for 8 years, mate get as many holidays as you can they only £500 a week away 🎉 better then laying horses at Southwell like me 🥹
I had 40/1 or maybe 60/1 winner at Brighton in the last race at Brighton many year's ago. Went to collect my winnings and he was trying to do a runner. I got my winnings. Bookmakers bent crooks the lot.

Could not believe my eyes at Kingston Blount point to point one day and one of the bookies clerks was Gary. Happy as Larry talking to every one.
The man is a survivor.
I have to say that Gary is a fantastic bloke and I have fed him from my hospitality unit on the other side of the track at Ascot in the past. He still does Warwick where he has stood for over 30 years. Lovely lovely bloke.

The racing community is second to none and I think the stories from punters of near missis and unlucky losers are sometimes better than those of winners.....after all its something we can all relate to......right? .....and the Magnificent 7, I was there and didn't back a single one of them!! Lol.

This is meant as a big compliment but people like Gary (also more extreme Harry Findlay) have had so many life experiences with so many highs that when interviewed they cannot help being jogged by memories that take them off track for a bit so they jump around. Always a sign of a life well lived

Good interview had not known his story good on him.i have had my share of losing bets had a Bentley my pride and joy sold it put the money on S.C to win gold Cup (David Nichols) didn't win come out next time 3 weeks later and won a 2 mile race at Liverpool even money.Now just my pension to live on were I earned a day now a month but would not change a thing trying to beat the bookie keeps the heart ticking.

Amazing story, what a character. Its easy in hindsight but laying 40k at 4s to Coral when he looking for 9/2 seems incredibly generous. Nowadays these bookies don't take any sort of size.

Findley admitted he lost 3 million on the horses though he did make more than that on other sports....but as regards racing he was a poor judge who backed long odds on shots and lost

Gary used to present the dogs with my dad (Dave Smith) many years ago.
i hope your dad is well, i remember seeing him some time back now in billericay,he disappeared from the telly because of one mistake...calling a result at lingfield too fast if i remember right, i would still prefer dave to alot of the presenters today.

I have an interesting Gary story , he was filling in on a tipping line and i happened to phone it once! and that was the day i heard Gary say the following unforgettable quote ...."whoever put that in at 15/8 has s h i ** in their a r ** !!! " shortly after i believe he was fired from said tipping line :PP
Can we please go back to the old days whereby Bookies pay 1/4 odds for 1st 4 in Handicaps of 16 runners or more & the rest of the older rules!! Clerks of Courses should be telling the Rails Bookies they do same or they don't get a Pitch!! - Also the 1/5 odds 1st 4,5,6 or 7 Bollocks for online Bookies - They're Raking it in - Otherwise they wouldn't be doing it!!!!!!!
Some people would think he's crazy ? But only the people with that rouge gambler inside who does some crazy shit planning ahead thinking the dream is in sight ! Truly understand he enjoyed it in a sick way, he felt that emotion very few ever will when it all fell apart that sickness 🤢🤢

The last race of the 7 was one of the most fixed races you'll ever see. Yet it's very rarely mentioned and was never investigated. Just shows that race fixing is fine if it gets the sport untold attention.
Was paddling water for last 2 furlongs
i was in a ladbrokes bookies in Wimbledon London that day. i was just a young dumb punter and i was chatting to an old man who seemed to know more than me about horses. i asked him if he fancied anything that day and he said he thought frankies 1st 5 races had a good each way chance. i wrote out a bet to do 10 pounds each way accumulator on the 1st 5 races and then i thought i wouldn't be that lucky and i threw the bet in the bin. not sure what i would have win but it would have been quite a bit

What a story....Gary should hold his head high. He saw an opportunity in the market and a 1 in a million beat him. I bet you he would take the same bet over and over again....most people should as that is how you make money over time. Just a shame it was a touch "too" much risk for him at the time
