Charterhouse provided a sophisticated and thorough classical education as well as class consciousness and a certain stuck-up-ness along with the (then) typical British ‘stiff upper lip’. It seems obvious that a bright if somewhat shy lad like Peter Gabriel tried to escape this strictly authoritarian, caning atmosphere that did not endorse emotions. i saw Peter Gabriel playing the drums live in 1993, while he was performing "Shaking the Tree".

@@ToniMartinTCPRIL I guess the 2nd pic was taken maybe in late spring or summer of 1994, when Peter was playing at different live festivals all over Europe (and later Woodstock II). He played drums on "Shaking the Tree" on various occasions during his tour in 1993/94 - the official film "Secret World Live" doesn`t show it. You can see PG on drums for example on the clip "Glastonbury 1994" by youtube user "ScottishTeeVee" at circa 18.25 minutes. Another clip by user "genesis guru" the upload of "Torhout 1994" - PG on drums at circa 22.35 minutes.
