I think for me it’s the familiarity of knowing my way around the Sky Princess, especially as an elderly (75) solo traveller. After watching some other reviews of the Sun Princess, the decor may be a little too modern for my taste.
@@maevehilton3028 I totally understand your perspective. I can imagine there's something very special about sailing again on a familiar ship, especially one you're so fond of - like coming home. Sun Princess definitely has a more contemporary feel. The most important thing is to find something that you love and that still gets you excited about traveling. Shiny and new isn't always the answer 🥰
Excellent. I get kind of tired of hearing about how they're such "beautiful" ships. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway. To me, their decor is their weakness (trendy, dull beige colors and abandoning some traditional spaces for a generic "modern" look). But that's my opinion. The good things and things that function well vs. what doesn't function as well in the buffet and pools and elsewhere and what areas are lacking in both--a nightclub on the Sun and a whole lot of venues on the Edge--is a very useful observation. Neither of these new ships are close to perfect and it's a shame the lines just build carbon copies making some minor adjustment, but work on some major areas of the ship. The Edge's concept of having interactive characters in Eden was a bust. They've gone to putting in smaller-scale entertainment now. And Sun Princess has rearranged some of their restaurants as well as scrapped Park 19.
Thanks for your comments! I absolutely cannot fathom how, in this day and age, ship designers can get something like Park 19 so wrong. I believe its failure was something to do with safety certification 🤷♀️ but, even if it had worked, that whole area felt a bit lame to me. I did enjoy Sun Princess though. Hope to sail on her again one day 🤞

How were you able to be on the Edge in July, 2024, in the Mediterranean, when Edge spends her summer season in Alaska?
I was on Sun Princess in the Med in July 2024 and on Celebrity Edge in the Med in July 2023. Mystery solved! ☺️
