I find I like re-reading magazines from the 50s and 60s more than modern ones. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks for doing that. It brought back a lot of memories. I was born in 1963 and remember grabbing that magazine as soon as it came in the house. There was another one that came as well, It was Farm Journal I think. Both were very interesting reading for 10-12 yr old.

very enjoyable. I love looking at stuff from yesteryear...I was born in 1979 and feel I missed some really good x in farming. You said it best about the John Deere artwork...that was my favorite.

Another great video my friend. On a side note, alot of the amish up here in Lancaster county still use the sickle bar with the crimper behind it method.

Born in’51 on a dairy farm. I remember a lot of this. Can’t see pulling the NH baler with an 8N! We had a ‘59 Ford pickup and some ford, MM and IH tractors. I mowed a lot with a sickle bar on a Farmall C

Case-o_Matic was a torque converter drive unit that became very popular in construction equipment, but didn't catch on in ag. Case spent a lot of money pushing that design as that ad shows. It's interesting that John Deere used Cadillac like cars in their ads. There were certainly no farmers that had all new equipment and all new cars unless they were a doctor or lawyer as well.

I remember when commercial artists drew the tractor, truck and car advertisements, and many many more. The one thing that strikes me about advertisements in older magazines is, these companies feel no real need to advertise their products this way anymore.

What killed Oliver was White motor company buying them. White ended up buying Oliver, Miniapolis Moline, and seems like Cockshutt, and ultimately rolled them into White. The first White tractors were essentially repainted Oliver’s with new sheet metal. Check out Ross the Oliver Man, he’s pretty sharp in those old Olivers.

Johnny Carson had a joke about Campbell's chicken noodle soup that it got it's flavor from a chicken run through it

That joke originated (I believe) in the Great Depression. They cut back on actual chicken so much that it was more like flavored water.
